Original Speedlines on my car are in excellent condition. However, yesterday, with soapy water placed on horizontally laid wheel I have confirmed very slow leaks where tyre meets rim. (Pressure had dropped to 16psi after a fortnight) I know this is a common problem. What is a typical cost per wheel for the refurb of these alloys? Multiplied by four it might be a lot, so I could perhaps get just the worst leaking one or two done initially.

Just seen in Lidl supermarket (German chain - we have loads up here) 5 litres for £4.99 "VW 505.00 Suitable for all engines including modern turbodiesels....with added synthetic additives" I think it says. Not putting it in the C but it could be good for those looking for cheap oil for leaky engine. Off topic now - mods can change for me? I bought another of their desktop calculators for £1.49! Solar/battery power. I have had one for a year or two. Also bought rechargeable battery powered tyre inflator for £9.99. Our family has 3 or their Power Stations (car starters) - came out at £19.99 - you can pay double for same model in other stores. Over past 3 years have spent loads on tools etc - some as cheap as £1.99 A SET chrome/moly and with TUV certification. Haven't seen them mentioned on here before but I go there nearly every other week. see http://www.lidl.co.uk/gb/index.nsf/page ... 0808.index

Jim said Nimrods? New to me as term for types of people - to use the term loosely. Translation/derivation please - I dont get down on the streets much now, you know.

Dont accept less than £3k as trade in. It's a car buyer's market this month, I would say. If you sell privately you can save yourself thousands - you can get, say, £4k from private sale and with cash purchase with no trade in you can get a lot off new/newish car from garage. I know a lot of people who trade in all the time, though, they seem to think doing without the hassle of private sale is worth thousands.

kev also said I have no hangups about my sexuality - must go now - got to hang out the washing.

kevhaywire said ?? - Aint seen that happen. Been on Peugeot for about 13 years. Some small cracks now, though. On Peug and C both, they unclip easily when you wash the car so you can wash headlamp lenses and behind plastic guards - takes seconds. You must be talking about type different to mine, I reckon.

Pinky red Mk2 GTi Golf outside my house just now. It is our youngest son's while he is away on holiday. H Reg. My mate also has one of those exciting Toyota Corollas - M reg - I noticed it is getting pink instead of red, too, but I hadnt seen it for a while and didnt want to mention it - for friendship's sake.

Static shocks seemed to be talked about a lot more in the 1970s when 100% nylon panties/underpants were in vogue. Try M&S 100% cotton - less sexy, but not so prone to get you charged up.

I got mine from them but it was about 3 years ago.

Yes. Check the plasticky linkage under the bonnet - near the gearbox entry. Might be that. Only costs under a tenner too Mine broke when I first got the car - I could not reverse and ended having to go to a villedge outside town. Got stuck against a wall and had to get 3 guys watching their kids play football in the gym to come out and give me a push backwards. "Oooh! They're nice cars them!" uttered one of the guys. I just looked at him.

My daughter's 30k mile Golf has had warning light come on a couple of times. Oil is always at right level - no leaks of anything. Handbook says take to dealer immediately. She has had car examined - they returned it saying could find no problem. She asked them what to do if it keeps coming on. True to form, they were rather unhelpful, just saying "keep an eye on it." Excuse me, but what does that mean precisely? Similarly, my neighbour got rid of her bought-new, low mileage MK4 GTI after having spurious warnings from dashboard light. They said "Sorry, we dont know what causes it." She said "What am I supposed to do if you the experts dont know" No reply. "It's all smoke and mirrors there" (at this particular VW dealership, she told me.) She went to Audi garage and traded in for A3. Ta Ta VW. Comments, particularly on false alarms from oil pressure light, welcome from anyone, please.

kevhaywire said: Yes - I try not to think about that one. There was a time where every couple of weeks or so you would read about people in 205gtis slamming into trees only to become trapped inside as petrol from the injectors sprayed playfully onto the hot engine to start a blazing funeral pyre. God, that's sick - Im gonna have to sell it now! -

One or two of these Aberdeen guys could cause a fight in an empty room. :agrue: Leaves a bad taste. Anything the rest of the forum can do to settle your differences? -
God, I feel rotten now, saysomestuff and corradowales!  OK Hows about a forum regulation "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything."? Good one for everyday life, too, but I keep breaking it, unlike my wife. PS - luv your avatar "saysomestuff" :)
-
Yup - take your points, there, corradowales. I was only being provocative, to be honest. All my previous cars have been slower and with a lesser image and I would defend owning most of them.
-
Dont see the point of 1.8 and 2.0 Corrado myself. Same idea as 1.3 Capris and Cavaliers.
