  1. Ah right, lol. Will be smacking the pulley witha hammer tomorrow me thinks. What would happen if I did remove the crank bolt by the way?? Next Question: How do I remove the intermediate shaft?
  2. Ah, I might have confused the issue there. I mean the pulley attached to the crank that runs the alternator belt... sorry...
  3. Ok, so managed to get the 4 hex bolts out, but the bolt holding the alternator pulley is as tight as a nun's chuff, how the hell do I get that bugger out?
  4. So, hit it wit ha large hammering type implement first, then take hte allen key socket, put it back on the bolt and try again? I'm assuming the liberal use of the hammered dislodges the rust that stops the bugger from coming out??
  5. Just in the process of stripping the 9a engine down and can't get the power steering/alternator pulleys off. Three of the 6mm hex bolts are tighter than a tight thing. I've tried soaking them in WD40. The engine is out of the car and currently sat on the floor of my garage with the flywheel still attached, and even if I use a long srewdriver to try and brace the flywheel, they still wont budge. Can anyone suggest how to get the buggers off?
  6. Rob, I have to agree with the Yeti there, to be fair. No point wasting money. And, since when have you ever gone for the non-ideal solution?? It just means you will be sepnding £675, rather than £500 in the long run...
  7. I'd think that the caliper is the culprit. You would probably hear the droning if it was the wheel bearing.
  8. I'd got to a point with mine where I just didn't enjoy driving it, but I was really only going up and down the A10 to work and back between Cambridge and Ely. That meant 40-50mph and start, stop, start, stop all the time. When you have an exhuast that was catching like bugger, noisy engine (also buggered) and triple well hard suspension, it was just winding me up like fook. I was at the point of selling/breaking, it was soo iritating, but decided that I was at the point where I either sell it and buy a sensible car or take it off the road and fix all the issues, fit the turbo etc etc. I couldn't bring myself to sell, so started my project. All this, and mines not a VR or a Storm. I'd keep it if I were you. If your feeling a little lost as it's to a point where you like it then, go all out and fit a mahoosive turbo/supercharger! That's give you something to do
  9. I used to be a bit silly on the roads when I was younger, but I never tailgated or did any wild manouvres like over taking around a central island....what a fookin cock, I'd imagine he'll be on some forum somewhere boasting about it! I'm sure its got something to do with the size of his minature penis!
  10. Of course! Gonna keep this thread updated, and also gonna do a website I think.
  11. To be fair, I've not had as much fun doing car stuff before and its very satisfying to say you'd done it yourself, with a little help from Michael, of course
  12. Not sure about being looked after by me?? Not done much with the engine bay myself prior to this, so maybe the previous owners were sympathetic to her! The next stage is sorting the wiring out.......
  13. Here is a pic of Rajmirch's passat turbo, you can so the one way valve just off the inlet manifold. It looks like a standard one
  14. Dec, where you gonna run the brake servo from?
  15. Oh yes! Had them milled off ages ago. Will be re-polishing it though, it's gone quite dull :(
  16. Ok, cool. What fan did you get then? Glad it came in handy then. :)
  17. If I was leaving them silver, I probably would have leant you them!
  18. Cheers, I'll need the encouragement! Just beginning to realise how much work I've got ahead of me! Gonna be doing something different with the Borbets, so will be needing the flat centres......
  19. Progress-mungus dude, looking really good! Are you using the standard 16v rad? It looks like it. Will that give you enough cooling? That alternator I sold you no good then?
  20. Cheers dude! It took less time than we thought, given that's the first time I've done anything quite so serious to any car. The front panel is in a pretty poor state to be fair, I think if it was shot blasted it would probably disintegrate
  21. Well , you know, that was exactly what I said to Michael after looking at the picture
  22. Yeah it surprised me to be fair, didn't use an engine hoist either! Not a stripped thread or sheared bolt to be seen, even though the front panel is in pretty poor shape. Might have to invest in a new one me thinks.
  23. More progress today, and many many thanks to mic_VR for his help!! We started at about 11.30am today The handy helper at work Comedy photos Ooooo bit of weight training And the engine is out by 4.30pm....5 hours to remove the engine given that neither of us had done it before was pretty good we thought!
  24. Is that a race to finish the project or on the road? Mind you, either way I think I'm gonna lose!
