well he did ask ;)

do bless us with your excellent knowledge on how to uprate the sounds in most if not all cars without the appearance of being a chav by using 6x9's. and then tell me which hifi installer you work for so i can steer well clear. Matt PMSL you obviously know it all but imHo - 2/3 way components in the front with suitable subbage in the rear. its that easy ;) I prefer 3ways myself but the layout of some cars doesnt always lend itself to easy installation. Every car I have owned the rear speakers get immedietly disconnected. how can you get stage depth and width nailed if there is a high pitched screech coming out of the 50p tweeters they use in 6x9s? imaging / staging / balance all out the window. but i guess you can show off to your mates down tescos carpark with remarks like "HEAR MY BASS PUMPIN MAN!!!" 6x9s have their place - need the overall sound lifted and a bit of bass but cant afford/be bothered with subs and amps then 6x9s are for you. My remark was a little tongue in cheek sure but if you want a PROPER install lose the ovals! kev - I hear ya on the genny subs - they are an exception. focal and JL also do small subs for when a proper sub/box isnt appropriate. Any more Qs matt? :-P

nice one mark :)
-
hard pushed to buy an off the shelf wedge piece of crap for that mate!!! never mind moulded with perspex!
-
£50 is for nowt mate.
-
best sub I ever had was a JL 15" W6 - in a 1.2 cu ft sealed box. had the punch and dropped low. best of all worlds :D
-
always been a sealed man myself :) if going ported get the volume right - not as forgiving!
-
if you make it too small you can stuff it with loft insulation to make it think its bigger :) if too big then pad it out with some mdf inside :) there is always a way ;)
-
autoacoustics make them but i dont know if its for a C volume (if sealed) isnt THAT big a deal - just work it out roughly :)
-
fibreglass sub box on each side of the boot moulded into the sides with any amps along the back of the seats?
-
my shameless plug is done jim - any 2ch or small mono amp would do the job. I did this with an old bass cannon I had (back in the day when these werent as despised as they are now ;))
-
there isnt much to it. you have power, remote, phono all coming along anyway so just plug these into an amp (easy so far). then cut the outputs of the basslink amp (the 2 wires to the sub) and wire these to the outputs of the new amp. seems a shame to waste the sub/box part of the basslink when all you need is a cheap amp to run it. ebay is full of them. if you can find one small enoung to fit to the basslink box then even better :D
-
if the amp is dead get yourself a small amp and power the sub off it. I happen to have a few small 2ch amps for sale if that would help  (shameless yes)

6x9s = chav central :) spend the money on the fronts imo.
-
id leave them as tweeters mate. the run off the front outputs along with the door speakers but have a little capacitor to filter out the low freq stuff. change the tweeters tho if you wish to different items but the 5.25s should be where the money goes :)
-
im using the term S1 to mean not the S2
-
not many S2s come up over here tho. ah well will see how it goes. 190bhp n/a isnt bad as we all know :)
-
fiver to cover postage and its yours. altho how bad really is yours? as long as most of its ok around the centre im sure it will be grand.
-
Ive a scrap MAF if you want it.
-
cheers for that mate. The s1 is a little slouchy at 165bhp alright. is there anything that can be done on them?
-
probs be ok if you can make adjustments but on normal suspension the weight of the vr6 lump makes it sit too low at the front.
-
simple question if economcs. if i got a 944 turbo id: a) spend all my budget b) be terrifed to touch it in case it broke if I could slip a vag turbo lump in Id save money AND have confidence to hike the boost up :) was reading the 944 had an audi gearbox so its a step closer :D
-
anyone much experience with these? Im toying with getting one but Id like it go a bit quicker. are they tunable? now for the silly Q - can you transplant a 1.8T audi/vw lump in at all? ;) cheers -pablo
