I did just replace the cap. How much and how difficult is it to fit the whole sender unit?

Need some advise I'm afraid. My G reg 16v 1.8 is playing up! Its started cutting out and also isn't running that well. Doesn't seem to cut out when in the higher rev range, but when changing gear it suddenly dies (around twice in a 30 minute journey). When rolling along in gear (but without my foot on the accelerator) it doesn't run evenly, sometimes it seems to run along fine and other times it hesitates and is slightly lumpy. When idle it is slightly uneven and seems to be looking around for the correct idle speed?? I thought it might be the fuel filter so I changed it - no luck so I've done the following still with little success: Replaced sparks, leads, dizzy, rota arm, battery and throttle cable (thought it might be sticking). I've also pulled the plug out of the ECU and cleaned this. I'm not very mechanically minded, but is there anything more I can do without spending a fortune putting it into a garage?? Thanks as always

Sounds good only I'm not to hot on knowing on where I will find this ECU Plenum??? Thanks for your patience

Hello All, I've noticed when accelerating the rev counter dips sharply. I'm also suffering the car cutting out and slight hesitation when accelerating in lower gears. Its recently had new plugs/leads/ dizzy cap and arm. I've also cleaned up the coil connections as someone suggested. My battery is old, could this be the cause? Many thanks in advance Steve 1.8 16v

Driving along and my 1.8 16v just completly cut out? It started again but I'd like to know what could have caused this? Many thanks

arse, sounds like it could get very expensive. Oh well, cheaper than replacing the engine I guess!
-
oh the relief, fantastic! Where might I find the broken wire/dodgy connector? might save the cost of the garage visit!! Thanks

My 18.16v hesitates slightly 2/3,000 rev range specifically in third and forth. I've just change the plugs/distributor and leads which certainly improved it but its still there. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks for the reply Henny. I don't think it can be the Oil pressure as its been happening for months now and I've been doing long motorway miles. I guess if it really was suffering I would have found out by now (knackered engine)???? The garage I'm taking it two on Tuesday think its electrical as its so intermittent (although it drove me mad this morning, stayed on solid for 20mins on the way to work) Is the garage right do you think?

Getting the horrible beeping coming on when above 3000 revs. The weird thing is, if I flick the main beam it stops (for a very short while). I've replaced the pressure switches but this hasn't solved the issue. Any ideas?

Hopefully all of the symptoms listed below are down to my C running rich?? Strong smell of fumes Slightly rough idle High rev and I get a pop Gut less Hesitating when accelerating Somebody in another post said it was easy to correct over fueling on the 1.8 16v, how do I go about it? (laymans terms pls)?

When I change into 5th and the rev range is at anything over 3000 revs I get a horrible crunch??? I've just had the clutch done so it must be the gear box??

Anyone know how to stop my windows rattling when open. They are fine as long as they are fully down. They also judder as they go down. Are they easy to correct? Thanks

I've got a porous sump anyway so I might as well do the whole job and change the oil pump at the same time. Is that a difficult job?

The problem I have is there isn't one on the side of the head!!! :!:

er I mean prize!

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH  Just driven to work (60 miles) with the buzzer going all the way. I've checked the wiring and its not the switch's above the oil filter. Can anybody tell me where I might find the other bloody pressure switch - there is a price for the correct answer :?:
-
I've gone through the rainbow with oil pressure switch's. VW couldn't get it right! I've now got a purple one as I've tried Black, White, Grey and brown. When I turned the ignition on with anyone of these switches in the oil light flashes. The purple one didn't but now after having it in place for about 500 miles, its started to go mad and beep/flash all the time! I know there is meant to be a high and low switch and I'm not sure which one the purple is but, the (now) purple one is the one over the oil filter (back one) but I can't find the other one. Its meant to be on the side of the head (apparently) but there is no question.. ITS NOT THERE. You can see where it should be but trust me when I say its not there, in fact I have scoured the engine and have been unable to find any other switch that is anything like the purple one. Where else could it be? My 1.8 16v is now 14 years old so must have been one of the early 16 valve's so did they put it some where else? What is the other switch directly above the oil filter? Its smaller than the pressure switch so I'm assuming that its a temperature switch??

to the rescue again Henny Thanks!

Are there 2 micro switches on the throttle body - one for idle/cruise and one at the top fully open throttle on a 1990 16v 1.8 engine? Mine only has one for idle/cruise but the garage seems to think you should also hear the click of the switch when fully open? Also I need to replace the throttle cable - is this an easy job and if so anyone got a walk through?? Thanks

thanks Kev, have you got the number of Stealth?

I haven't let them do the work. Would I be better buying an engine for £400 and getting that fitted??? What does this problem mean for me as far as driving it at present? I drive 60 miles a day at present - am I going to break down?? will it get slowly worse or die on the M25 tonight??
