All this has turned out to now be (according to VW) down to the ECU. Apparently it requires a replacement as well as the throttle body needing doing (whatever that is). I have already spent £1500 just getting the car running properly and this work will be a further £1200 and may only be the start of it (again apparently) - What do I do??? New engine, new car, park the sodding thing in the Thames??? I'm so gutted and would appreciate any help Steve View previous topic :: View next topic Author Message SteveM16v :: CF Donator :: Joined: 17 Jun 2004 Posts: 13 Posted: Mon Jul 05, 2004 12:36 pm Post subject: white colour in the exhaust -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've just had the head gasket dune on my 1.8 16V and have noticed that inside the exhaust has gone white?? Check for air leaks etc, which will also sort the rough idle etc. _________________ Schrick VGI, AmD throttle body, AmD remap, H&Rs, Koni TAs, Neuspeed ARBs, VT mounts, Poly rack and X-member bushes = The car the VR6 *should* have been. I've just had the centre section replaced but this seems to have had little effect. It seems worse when its cold although when driving along you can see the rev counter dip around 500rpm but then quickly climb back again. It also sometimes takes off like its cleared a block but then goes gutless again. I had something similar with my old Sirocco (carb). It turned out to be the petrol hose into the tank was rusting and clogging the fuel filter. This can't be the same, as the C has a plastic sleeve??? Please help, this is costing hell of a lot of money to try and sort - I've had to book it into VW but I'm not convinced they will find the cause. Thanks for your help PS Anyone who lives in the High Wycombe/Maidenhead area who can sort this - I'd rather pay you instead of being ripped off by VW Back to top

Has anyone else heard of this kit as Halfords don't seem to have?? Freefire :: CF Newbie :: Posted: Fri Jan 09, 2004 1:43 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You dont need to pay VW prices - I took mine to Halfords - I obtained a kit (which by the way is compatible for the passat also) its called a 'Gerb2200 - Slipkit' (dont ask me?) They installed it there (only took 45mins) - Cost me £48 fitted and now its like a brand new gearbox! - VW wanted to put a new box in (I needent say what that was quoted) GOOD LUCK!

Actually, Henny, could this be the reason I'm suffering with a very pour running engine? see my post on Hesitating below: Posted: Thu Jun 24, 2004 10:04 am Post subject: Hesitating -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've had so many problems with my C I'm starting to lose the will to live! Headgasket went - £600 pounds later and I'm still having problems. It was running fine before the head gasket went, but since getting it back from the garage its running crap. Its hesitating when increasing speed and its also a bit gutt-less. The idle is ruff regardless of whether hot or cold. I've given it back to the garage and they can't find the problem. They have changed the fuel filter as well as going over all of their work (twice) and still they can't find the fault and now insist it isn't down to them. Has anyone any ideas? Thanks as always PS they also changed the leads

After doing around 300 miles I decided to check the oil level - it was empty! Is this right? I've been doing a lot of motorway miles and have been reving away but it can't be right that there was almost no oil left?? It has just had a head gasket - could that be the cause?? Thanks again!!

Apparently I have a Porous sump! Is this a, easy to change and b, cheap? Thanks
-
They say they have - twice! Is there anything else it could be or is it worth trying another garage for a second opinion?
