Yes, it is possible yet I do not suggest it. You will most likely damage the radiator in the process. There are 5 bolts which hold the fan shroud to the radiator. 1 at each corner and then 1 at the top on the passenger side (it holds the a/c condensor to the radiator if you have one). The fans have plastic trim guides, to remove simply press the locking post from the inside outward with a pick. As I'm not familiar with the UK setups I'm going from US spec memory here. R

I've made a few calls trying to find the OEM abv/82mm piston ring sets.. no luck as of yet.. I can get JE forged pistons cheap though ;)

lightweight flywheels help when rev-matching prior to entering corners as the engine is much more responsive.

if anyone wants a fidanza.. send me a PM. These are SFI approved (US santioning body for drag racing safety). R

Why switch them out? simple.. so you can SEE what is actually behind you. 993 mirrors are wider in the middle which increases rear visibility. I live in a city filled with 7 million idiots who cannot drive therefore knowing where they are at all times leaves me an "out" so a 7 year project isnt ruined. R

fidanza's are 350USD plus freight.. at 6lbs it really isnt that much.

Lee, will you PM me the part # for the passenger side RHD 993 base. I will be fitting my OEM 993 mirrors soon and have been told I need this base. I'll have the p/s US spec base if anyone over there needs that? R

If you have any specific questions with regards to engine building.. cam timing etc.. feel free to send me a PM. I've done quite a few of these. FYI.. JE pistons + 268 cams + mk4 headgasket with a resurfaced cyl head = 99% chance of valve to piston interference. It's roughly 50% when using OEM pistons with the above combination. In hot climates, the mk4 HG is a waste of time as the ECU will retard timing. This shouldn't be an issue in the UK.

Ouch.. 81mm rings sets are ~125USD over here.. I wonder what the 82's run. Prior to taking the block apart, I would use an internal micrometer/bore gauge to measure the bore. Once to take the pistons out, it is unlikely you will ever get it to seal like it does now. I also suggest that you hone the block prior to installing new rings. The crosshatch left by a hone is a must. R

I have lightened 5 vr flywheels and 1 g60 flywheel. This is a job to be performed on a lathe. Rebalancing is a must as all vibrations will be transmitted through the crankshaft = excessive bearing stress/wear. DO NOT order autotech flywheels. They sent me 2 mismachined pieces prior to getting the 3rd correct. I personally just ordered a fidanza flywheel.. 6061 T-6 billet aluminum with 1050 modified heat treated steel friction surface and ring gear. NAS aircraft hardware holds the replaceable friction surface on. Weight is 6lbs. The safe weight for a lightened OEM vr f/w is ~11lbs. R

These calipers are prone to flexing, do not have dust seals (sand/dirt will eat the aluminum caliper around the SS pistons) yet they are lightweight. The 11.3" driivers edition is a wise upgrade for vr6 applications, the audi 2 piston is the 4cyl upgrade of choice. I would not suggest these wilwoods for road racing applications. R

My new custom made www.wires4cars.com silicone plug leads
yellowslc replied to PhatVR6's topic in Engine Bay
The #1 way to save $ on something like this is to ship all leads into the UK to one person such as phatvr6. From there standard post would apply. I will have answers shortly. R -
You really have 3 decent choices. http://www.eiptuning.com http://www.vwturbo.com Or full custom. I am having a tubular manifold and 3" downpipe made for me now. Be prepared to spend over 1000 USD for something like this. Robert
