Fair play for sorting the seat out. He didn't chap but he was quite busy at the time, I bet you was almost glad that the tensioner was mashed as it justified your commission, your instincts were correct. Bet you can't wait to pick her up she should pull pretty hard now.

Hi Geri, Sorry to hear that chap , these MOT testers are like little Hitlers these days it's almost like you get anxiety taking your car for a MOT ! Hopefully not to much work for you to get her passed mate. Yes feeling like I have spent far to much but it's a car I'm keeping long term , want the a MK2 16V to keep her company to. My dream three car collection would be a Rado, Mk2 golf 16V and a 964 in red but these are an absolute rip off at 50k !!! Ive seen a Rado for 21k on ebay that has done only 42k miles and had some recent work done but I would say my car has had more new parts , this just shows do not get obsessed with mileage folks as a car is all about condition and the one with the high mileage could well be the bargain of the century.

Update. Car back form Stealth , she is running like a beast I'm glad to report and I have extended the ASBO on her. Had a new printed circuit with housing fitted as MFA display was starting to fail, part number 525 919 042, Cost £223 but it use to retail for just under £600 from VW , it includes the brains , MFA and clock etc. Surely if your in long term ownership it's worth getting one of these whilst still available as a spare. I kept my old one as a spare as it was just the MFA last digit that was starting to play up and only half displaying. It's so clear to read and now I have the lowest mileage Rado in the country wink wink  Number 3 on diagram http://www.oemepc.com/vw/part_single/catalog/vw/markt/RDW/modell/COR/year/1995/drive_standart/76/hg_ug/919/subcategory/211010/part_id/0/lang/e#sec_3. Also got the VDO Pump and sender fitted V belt Continental Hella Oil cooler Every clamp changed on the hoses to updated VW clamps so no nasty rusty ones shaming the engine bay. (going to get the old clamps powder coated as spares as not cheap to buy !) Coolant Hose which was really good quality 119 121 0068 MEYLE Radiator hose fit VW Bosch Aux water pump and Gurven alloy aux water pump bracket. Had the drivers window clip /guide fitted to stop the awful window rattle/shake Last job now body shop ! Ouch Pfsht I saw your car at Stealth , nice motor mate. One of the reasons sunroofs fail is a lack of lubrication so an annual greasing should keep your sunroof working for many years.

Sure Moo open minded to a meeting place. Car is booked in for mechanical and body work and they tend to have the car triple the time then you would imagine, they know its your second car so put it on the low priority. So really just want to make sure I have my car back ha. -
Midlands meet Caffine & Machine Warwickshire
Keyo posted a topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Hi Folks, Looking for some feedback on some numbers for a Midlands CF meetup . https://caffeineandmachine.com/ in Warwickshire CV37 Post code. I'm sure we have all some jobs to finish off first before then end of summer so I was thinking after the school summer holidays towards the end of summer , maybe second week of September. Will try and get us a section of the car park so we can put the Rado's together, would be a casual meet up , but would like to get an idea of numbers so I can contact Caffine and Machine and prepare, the establishment is the sort of place you can order bar food as well. I know so far Jezz and Moo are up for it so who else is in folks ? Seems to be a fair few Rado Midland owners on here so don't be shy . Any folks out of the Midlands area that fancy a longer drive be great if some of you great peoples could attend . Kieran. -
Sound mate my cars going in for some work next week and should have it back in a couple of weeks , when are you thinking about installing the Shrick ? Is your Rado on the road now ? We was on about having a Midlands meet in Straford Upon Avon later this summer at Caffine and Machine , or your welcome to come and see the Shrick set up earlier if you want to fit it sooner .
-
Yes sound Cressa no problem, if your based in and around the Midlands your welcome to see the set up in the skin.

Here is a chart metal marking stamps including 8.8 and stainless. Am I correct in saying a bolt stamped with 8.8 is galvanised. My bolts also stick to a magnet and stainless steel tend to be none magnetic. Thank You https://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-information/materials-and-grades/bolt-grade-chart.aspx
-
It says 8.8 C , nothin else. High Tensile Steel Grade 8.8 For fasteners and fixings, high tensile steel is some of the best material on offer – and can be found in a number of homes and auto manufacturing. Grade 8.8 high tensile steel is often referred to as the structural grade for bolts. It is the most common form of high tensile material and is usually stocked in plain finish or zinc. It can be plated in many other coatings. For high tensile steel grade 8.8, a torque wrench will be required for the tightening of said product. These products are built to last and work optimally under harsh usage and should be easily identifiable via a permanent marking on the head to allow the customer to differentiate them.

Folks do these look like galvanised or stainless steel . I know galv can be shiny and dull . Thanks .
-
My fault mate said stainless but they are actually Galvanised.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bruno Sacco and Gior matured their designs in the same circles, they are the Raphaelites of car design. Thankfully we seem to be escaping the bubble design, Mk7 golf has got to be the best shape since the Mk2. I use to like that Renault 19 16V the sports version in that dark blue. Just looked out of curiosity not one for sale in the UK from what I can see.
-
The back end om the one picture almost looks like that Citreon model , thank god they didn't go with that.
-
Nice looks like a run out magic black.

You can really see the Mk2 Scirocco and Corrado in the front nose of the De Lorean. Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro designed the MK1 Scirocco in the early 70s amongst other greats like the Lotus Espirit. De Lorean late 70s / 80s You can see how VW then sort of used the nose of the De Lorean in the Scirocco MK2 design, and then then evolved on to the Corrado.

Hi Sean, I don't mean on the thread of the bolt , but on the bolt head, that greenish/ blue residue that copper produces when it starts to erode, so I'm thinking the original head bolt may have had a copper compound in it that was designed to be housed in an alloy thread hole and not to seize. .
-
Hopefully mate. I was just wondering if the original bolts were like a hybrid copper bolt as Im sure I can see a bit of that blueish/green marking on some of the lower bolts.
-
The original part number for the bolt is N 0147263, just spoke to VW and it has been superseded by part number N01472615 which comes in the form of Galvanised. Also remember these bolts are fitted with washers which also prevents the bolt from bonding in the thread somewhat.
-
I do believe alloy can react with other metals , but stainless steel is also a different composite make up of galvanised. Has anyone got a stock manifold bolt to hand, what is the material, is it gold/copper in colour or galvanised wouldn't mind knowing. Cheers.
-
remember this is the inlet manifold not the engine head .
-
Checked all existing bolts with a magnet and pulled one out and they all appear to be galvanised so I'm not concerned about the new bolts I have ordered.
-
Ouch that sounds a bit of a horror story ! It says the bolts are galvanised not stainless steel sorry not sure if that makes a difference but the bolts look galvanised that are on there at the moment on the Shrick which is alloy. The bolts I have ordered are for the stock inlet manifold Can can still get the original bolts N0147263 + washers N01155811 but work out over a £5 each.
