Don’t use regular 95 fuels. It is bad for the engine. The car was designed for 98. As long as you use a 97 fuel such as BP ultimate then you should be fine. Optimax is the equivalent of a 97 fuel so you should use it if you are at a shell garage. I can tell you that I get 450 ish miles from 70 litres of optimax (same for BP ultimate). (also 1.8 16v with no mods) G

G ones have anit drain back. They are the best filters out there. even for other brands of car use VAG ones. G

Cool 30 quid Will have to go buy some more. I paid 40 for mine. My dad uses it in his lotus elan too (so will try and persuade him to pay for it ::D:D:D)

Yeah I know I cringed at the price. My mine only takes 4 litres so... Halfords are doing a special offer on 15w40 (5 litres) and it is a similar price to the 4 litres 15W50. Only thing is it is a little bit thinner. It was the best 40 quid I spent on the car so far. G

For an older engine (mine is 83K) I use 15W50 Mobil 1 motorsport. It is a genuine fully synthetic. I used the 15W50 instead of the 15W40 because it is slightly thicker I assumed that the engine is worn a bit (when I got it, it had 2 litres of oil in). I did consult an engineer who works for VAG and worked on the 16v, the g60 and the VR. He recommended Mobil 1. I have to admit the engine has run smothers than it ever has before. No sign of smoke either. I have done 3K on the new oil and it has used maybe a quarter of a litre, probably less than that. G

That is all great. Am going to bleed the system tomorrow (today even) and will check all the things mentioned above out. Might replace the front discs. If I can find some cash. I after messing with the car today I have decided the rears are not ceased it is just the handbrake cable that needs adjustment. Where is it adjusted? (Probably obvious but while I am here thought I would ask) Thanks for the help. G

Does anyone know if the TT rears are the same as teh golf rears. I really want to get them sorted. G

how do you tell if that has happend. My car had new rears just before i bought it but the handbrake is shit. have to pull it on darn hard to get it to stop the car from moving.

I know this has been discussed before but here goes again I have a standard 1.8 16v on standard 15" wheels and the brakes are SH*T. The pedal feels like porridge (and a bit spongy). The disc's are a bit worn but not worn out. Not had a look at the pads yet but I am sure there is a little bit of taper wear on them. I can still lock the wheels (don’t have ABS) What can I do to make them better? Would TT callipers work on the front and back? Or Mk 4 callipers (not sure if they are different to the TT). The bottom line is I want better feeling brakes for as cheap as pos. (I am a student) G

Mobil 1 is indeed very £££££££ Bear in mind that most of the popular brands will come in lots of different viscosities. I have heard ppl say that you shouldn’t use synthetic oil in a C coz it is to thin. That is a load of rubbish as you can get viscose synthetic oils just like you can mineral oil. G

What would happen if the belt breaks. Does anyone know if the pistons miss the valves at all? IF they do hit the valves does it usaly write off the head??? thanks G

Y do you have 2 fuses and also is that a double relay? did you cut your exsisting loom to put that one in? that circut diag in the BG there is not the same as what is on http://www.matey-matey.com. Did you do it yourself

have had a look at the diagram. that is how i made the loom. just the one photo i have of one of gavs looms looks different to mine. just the photo is not good enough to show how it is different. G

Hey could some one pls post some pics of the uprated headlight loom. with some closeups of the ends and of the fuse and relays. I have made one but not seem to improve the lights. Would like to see some of yours if it is not to much hassel G

If you put the car to full lock and accelerate does it make a noise (sort of like clicking) G

ok so it can be done with out taking the hub assy off. I am looking for a splitter now. I dont have one but am phoning around. I have taken teh bolt out. all that is left it to get the bj out of the upright. Am off to buy a splitter G

well i have got all the bolts undone but i cant get the ball joint out our the upright

benji16v, Where are you based? I have a bonet but it is fadign badly. It looks like the rest of the car has been resprayed. was just thinking maybe a new ish bonet would be cheaper than respraying mine. also do you have the badge on the back??? Any pics would be good Thanks. G
