Thats good that he is sorting that out for you. Like it has been said, you will enjoy it when it's all hunky dorey, just a rough start to it!
-
get a 13 row cooler, it will be plenty big enough. I ditched the standard cooler as they fail anyway. I just run a mocal cooler, G60 rad, rallye intercooler and slim line fan with no problems what so ever. my oil temp hardly ever reaches 100 and the water sits at 90 all day.
-
the blocks can crack as they are cast. However, I would not really expect it to happen and I'm not sure if you would see the same problems you are having. fingers crossed its the gasket and a quick fix
-
Good positive attitude mate, I like that. I'll have a look at the expansion tank on mine
-
Ah ok, if you have the head off then that's fair enough. Just didn't want you to go to that effort unnecessarily. What a crap start to owning a car
-
I use a g60 rad with a rallye cooler on my turbo and its fine. I've got a slim line fan with a single speed and its all good. I do use an oil cooler though which drops the temps significantly. However, I dont think cooling is your problem. Before removing the head, try the new expansion tank. I changed the head gasket on my 20v because it overheated. I tried a gsf expansion tank and cap before I did the gasket and it still overheated. I changed the gasket and it still overheated. I ditched the gsf cap and tank and it was fine. All it takes is a little air leak to let the system boil up. If its not perfectly sealed it will not work and boil up like you are experiencing. Dont remove the head yet, its a ball ache on a g60, wait a couple of days for a new tank before you remove the head
-
Did the fan cut in ok? Could be a dodgy rad switch not cutting the fan in. Or a crap bit of wiring where the new slim line fan has been wired in place of the old one. Non gen rad switches always fail aswell.* I did have to change the actual header tank on mine aswell instead of just a new cap (genuine not Gsf). *Could be slightly warped and not sealing 100%. Golf mk4/5 is the way to go.* Gutted for you mate having these problems.* Can't rule out head issues, but fingers crossed it's not

Ah the chap from Dubgen
-
Could still be the header tank not letting the system pressurise and therefore boil over. If you can hear hissing from the tank it could be air escaping as it boils up. Are there any other symptoms of head gasket failure? Water in the exhaust? Oil in the water? Water in the oil? The header tanks are notorious for failing, had the Same problem with mine. Replaced the head gasket and it still overheated until I sorted the header tank out
-
Header tank cap? Will not let the system pressurise and will spill out of the overflow on the header tank. If it's an original header tank with black cap then I would replace it. If the water is recirculating back into the header tank then the pump is probably ok.

Mat to be honest I think you would be better off ditching both those pioneer speakers and getting 1 set of decent components for the front. for me it is far superior to having half decent speakers in the front and 6x9's on the shelf. I dont care if people in the back cant hear the music too well, I don't sit there!
-
Agree with pete. I had some co axials in the front (separate tweeter and woofer but no crossover unit) which were ok, but the alpine components really beefed up the sound at the front.
-
I will take your side repeaters and raise you a set of Audi tt leather seats
-
I have no idea mate. My alpine sub is the type s model which ive had for about 8years and is still going strong!
-
It's people like that who give young drivers a bad name. Idiots standing there filming it don't help either
-
Take the plastic sheet off aswell and stick the sound deadening right onto the door skin. You will see what I mean. no need to put it on the metal framework.
-
I got my speakers and sound deadening from car audio direct. It's a sticky backed padding that you stick to the inside of the door on the metalwork. Not on the back of the doorcard. Take the door card off, give the metal skin a bit of a clean with some thinners or brake and clutch cleaner and stick on. Press down firmly to make sure it sticks properly and job done. Loads of different thicknesses an brands for your different levels of deadening. I just bought the cheapest lot of 8 sheets. £20 or something. Reflects some of the sound waves from the speaker and reduces vibration in the door. Well worth doing while you have the door card off to fit the speakers

Apparently jabba are into chargers again at the moment. Friend of mine had his rebuilt there recently. JMR aswell?
-
I've now got a full compliment of alpine gear aswell and am super chuffed with it all. Not expensive and quality sounds. Can't ask for more than that
-
100% agree. sometimes it can be a little hostile on here, but overall it's a cracking forum. I bet I'm not the only one who is addicted to coming on here!
-
This isn't edition38 though jim, we are not scene enough anymore. Walesy, the reason I never bothered saying anything bad on here was because you would get beaten down by the g werks fans. I bet 80% of the people on here who would recommend them have never been there. Myself, I would tell anyone that asked the truth of my experiences. They wouldn't go there after that. Like it has been said, Darren is a nice enough bloke, but the service is rubbish. Shame

I won't be painting mine and the car is dark so it shouldn't stick out too much. When I spoke to Zoe (the very pleasant lady on reception) she asked the workshop manager if they could cut the holes for the washer jets and he said no problem. Let's see what they come up with!
-
I do enjoy having the sub in there, just adds the extra depth that music needs. I don't have mine up loud so it overpowers the treble and mid, just enough to enhance the sound. I recovered my parcel shelf to cover the holes from the 6x9's so only have the fronts and sub. I think it sounds better than having the rear speakers attached. The holes in the shelf let the bass travel nicely aswell. It's also let me move the sound stage to the front which is half the reason it sounds better. Those speakers are fantastic compared to the alpine e series speakers I had in there previously. So much more depth. Highly recommended. Cost £80 from car audio direct

I'm getting the same bonnet but they are cutting washer jet holes for me. That should hopefully be easier for me. Can't be doing with changing the washers for something else
