  1. Definately, classic rear bearing symptom, mine did exactly this.
  2. Do Vibratechnics do suspension bushes too? I'm going to change mine soon.

    VR6 Handling issues

I owned a 1.9 Gti 205 for six years, excellent car. I've now owned 3 VR6s in both Golf and Corrado format. The thing with the Corrado is that its much more of an all round package, its not tiring to drive, its effortless in comparison to the pug. I have an awesome set of roads to get to work, 20 miles of fast A/B roads and 10 miles of mega twisty/cambered lanes. The pug was in its element on the narrow stuff, so chuckable, lightning fast response, steering feel that the Corrado can never dream of. You can feel everything, you know when things are getting hairy, every imperfection of the road...you know about it. The Corrado is no where near as chuckable round those lanes and it feels big, you can fit a pug past anything when you meet another car! However get the Corrado on one of the straights or a high speed sweeping bend and it amazes me every time how much speed it can carry. Thats the thing, the Corrados high speed handling and stability is as impressive as the Pugs B-road prowess, its horses for courses. All this talk of power/weight and no-ones mentioned gearing and feel!
  4. Isn't there a group buy on http://www.vr6oc.com atm?
  5. I've had a Vibratechnics Fast Road front mount on a Golf VR6 and Corrado VR6 and had no extra vibration at all. They shouldn't need to settle.

    How much torque?

Yep you've mullered them through overtightening!
  7. Burning oil smells on VR6s usually occur when the breather arrangement has split. Th breather vents oily fumes from the cam cover and burns them again via the air intake. The little hose/valve thing splits and drips oil onto the hot engine or exhaust manifold cover.

    Sunroof motor?

If you have a six wire loom ie the later type in the Corrado then yes it will be OK. I used a Corrado motor to get my Mk3 Golf sunroof working before I sold it, they were both 1994 models.
  9. Indeed another possible, I had one that developed a pin hole.
  10. Have you seen it drip? I would suspect the auxilliary water pump, I've had two leak on me, it could be that leaking and dripping onto the block next to it. Its at the back rhs (as you look at it) of the engine.
  11. Are you seriously saying your Corrado rattles less than a brand new Clio?
  12. Only one chance to get Pikes Peak wrong, scary stuff!

    chains

Hmm difficult one. It was a spare car so I wasn't pushed for time. Took the front of the car off and the head and all ancilliaries in an afternoon. I got the head reconditioned, this took a couple of days as it had 12 new valves and tappets put in. In the mean time I took the gearbox and clutch out, this probably took me half a day, what with disconnecting the driveshafts and stuff. Took an afternoon to put the new clutch and chains on, and then a day to put the gearbox back on, head on etc and have her running perfect again. Really enjoyable job actually, not technically difficult. So about three working days, although I spaced it out over a couple of weeks. I'd do it in two long days now I reckon.
  14. bring on the stig.....another chance to get the C on top gear.......and inflate Corrado prices. :D[/quote:83bc7] Top idea, someone email Top Gear. :-)
  15. I sympathise mate. I do a bit of buying and selling on the side. The last car I sold was a Pug 205 TD, there were about 50 enquiries, of which at least 30 never turned up as arranged, the other 20 saw it liked it, were going to phone back for a test drive or were going to come round the following day which was pay-day etc, only ever saw 1 of them. I had one person say he'd buy it as long as I put a new MOT on, then no show. People who just needed to show their other halves, people who had one more to look at but would definately let me know either way, not one...t*ssers all of them!
  16. 2 in Bristol over the weekend. Red one in a car park in Bedminster on Sat, Blue (Nice paint but no rear bumper) one outside Hope and Anchor Sun pm.
  17. That usually means the fan is only operating at one stage... I've still got both speeds, it doesn't go any higher than that, it only hits 110 then drops again.

I did mine on the driveway, summer weather admittedly. Your guide was excellent.
  19. Hi ozowen. Try the search feature at the top mate, stalling VRs are very common and there are many reasons. Its been discussed at length.
  20. Yep nothing to worry about there, mine will hit 110 in traffic on a hot day.

    Ebay VR6 Chip

Very interested how you get on with this.
  22. I've got some of them, but they are so small that you can never get things 100%. You have to check the normal mirror for distant objects and the blindspot mirror for close objects by which time the car in front has slammed on its brakes... maybe...Its just not ideal and it really lets the car down imo. Whenever I drive another car it feels so much easier just because I know whats around me. I would happily pay any cost to get the visibility sorted on my Corrado. I wouldn't care if the TVR ones were £200 each, it'd be worth it.
  23. That'd be cool, I hate the mirrors on the Corrado, without any doubt, the worst feature of the car, for me. Dangerous. I've never come across a car with blindspots so big that you can lose an articulated lorry in them....easily.

    VR6 Oil Leak

None of those parts are particularly expensive, it depends where you buy the parts from and who fits them really. VW dealers are hellishly expensive labour wise, VW specialists are much more reasonable. If you're talking discs and pads all round, I'd look for sub £400, maybe £500 fitted including the mid box and shocks. To be honest with you, none of the work sounds major, its just routine stuff that wears out when a car gets older. The worrying thing is the price, for that money I'd expect it to be top notch, new MOT, full VW history, no faults whatsoever even then its expensive in the current climate, as Walesy says check out the classifieds on this forum.

    VR6 Oil Leak

I wouldn't be worried by that report, its a 10 year old car with 75k miles on it. :) I would be worried about that price, its a 10 year old car with 75k miles on it. :(
