Hey guys, I've just been reading the buyers guide on here, and it mentions that if the MFA resets on turning the ignition off the car may have been clocked. Is this true? I tend to leave mine on "1", and if I turn the ignition off for a reasonoble time (couple of hours) channel 1 will reset. Meanwhile, data is held in channel 2 no probs. Is this normal? The mileage on my car seems to be consistent with the history from the last 5 or 6 years....

Mine has BBS multispokes. I have no idea what they're called. I lose track of all the BBS wheels, but pics are here: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18687 Not sure these were OEM though?

I have a friend who has a 1.4 V-tech engine in a mini. Quite possibly the most scary car I've ever been in...

I've managed to balls up my chance of owning a Corrado...

Can we clear this up? Is it true you can only do 60mph in a panel van on a motorway? I was under the impression that speed limits for a panel van were as for a car, unless towing... -
My parents used to use saddle cream (for horses saddles) on their old Mk 2 Jag. Turned quite a sorry looking interior into something looking pretty damn good. Took a lot of effort though...

Nelson, Sounds like I was in a very similar situation to yourself. I bought my 2.0 16V just before finishing uni, having crashed the 1 litre polo I was driving beforhand. (I wasn't being stupid, just a momentary lapse of concentration. Had 4 years worth of claim-free driving before that). That car was under my mum's name so I had no insurance record. I managed to get a quote of around £1300 fully comp with admiral, though admittedly I have no points on my license, . It's WELL worth seeing if adding parents as named drivers will bring your price down. I saved £300 by adding my step-dad onto my insurance policy as he is a professional driver, over 50, member of the IAM etc etc. Oh, and to the guy who said not to have a Corrado as the first car to start your insurance record!! :D -

Hmm, I dunno. I'm not as keen on these as the "G-unit" ones. It just seems like they're going out of the way to offend, but I guess that's the point.... -
If you're interested, I have a set of Pioneer 6x4"s, 90W rated, (I think!) 2 ways, going spare. iirc they were around £90 when I bought them. They sounded great in my Polo but I was loathe to give them to the insurance company when they came to collect the car!

Daveh, I had some problems with my ABS a little while ago. The light had been on (all be it disconnected) since I bought the car in March. I wanted it sorted for the MOT and for my own piece of mind. Turns out that one of the previous owners, in lowering the car, had managed to re-route the ABS cables in a way that meant they got caught on various bits of the suspension every so often, hence knackered ABS loom. To make matters worse, someone had tried to fix it without reallly knowing what they were doing, thereby making matters worse as my mechanic couldn't get VAG-COM to read the fault codes. Anyway, eventually he sorted it, reconnected the warning light and all was good, only for the warning light to come back on again during some, er, slightly enthusiastic driving. On the 16v, the ecu doesn't remember any fault codes, so a brief "blip" in the ABS system will cause the ABS light to come on, and remain on for the rest of your journey. Turn the engine off, then on again, and all is back to normal. This makes me think that my problem is just a loose connection somewhere. Not sure if this helps you at all, but hey, now you know! :D

OK, opinion: My sunroof currently tilts no probs, but wont slide at all. From fully tilted, it gets to the closed position then stops. I quite fancy taking it apart and having a look to see if I can fix it, the thing is I hear horror stories of them getting stuck mid-slide, or worse still coming off the runners and putting scratches all over the top. Should I just think myself lucky that mine tilts and leave well alone?

I'm reading, just speechless!

Did all Corrados have heated mirrors? Are they on the same switch as the heated rear screen or something? Mine don't look heated, but the righthand one has certainly corroded as supercharged describes...
-
On a slightly related topic, does anybody know how one would go about re-programming the front wipers so they wiped an extra time after squirting? After washinng, my screen is still a wee bit smeary, but an extra wipe seems to do the trick. I guess Lupo wipers would probably help on this front too...

Sorry, didn't realise this thread was still alive! Burning at 2x with MS media player seemed to do the trick. Supercharged, it seems weird that some kit will play CDRWs and not CDRs, as the contrast ratio and read-out mechanisms are pretty much the same for CDRs and conventional CDs. CDs have pits and lands to give 0's and 1s respectively, whilst CDRs have chemically altered regions to give similar contrast from 1 to 0. CDRWs however use polarisation sensitive detectors as it isn't the AMOUNT of light reflected that changes from 1 to 0, but the state of polarisation, hence you need upgraded read-out heads in order for them to work. In my case, I was using an audio format CDR in a headunit marked as being able to read CDRWs. I don't think it can read MP3s. Never tried to be honest! And yea, I have no quarms about downloading music. I have friends in bands of varying success, all of whom are happy to download music, as they agree that if the fat cats were to distribute the money amoung artists rather than hoardng it themselves, the entire industry would be better off. I NEVER download mountainbike films as the money from those goes to film producers who are then able to make more videos with more riders, that then gives the riders the publicity they need to obtain/keep sponsorship deals.

Chipping a normal motor will make no difference...

About 1.005kJ/kgK @20 degrees C (293K) I'm doubtful wether this would work. Peltiers drain a pretty large amount of power. when used to cool cpu chips 300W is not uncommon. I suspect you'd need a pretty large device to cool the volume of air we're talking about here, to the point where the power drain renders your efforts pointless. I am surprised to hear they use them on aircraft though. Perhaps here the available power outputs make it more worthwhile, as the fractioanl power drain is almost negligeable? It takes a (admittedly relatively small) Peltier about 30mins to temperature stabilise a diode laser to around 17C (so only around a +5C temperature gradient) in ambient conditions, so I don't think a system whereby you activate the Peltier only at WOT would be that effective either. I dunno. Colling chips is very different to cooling engines! -
One thing that concerns me about magnatec oils is that, if you put ferrous metals in prolonged contact with magnetic substances the metal itself will eventually exhibit some magnetic polarisation, which will mean any swarf etc will get stuck to your pistons, bores etc. Surely not a good thing? I do remember someone reporting this in testing of magnatec oils as well...

I used to have a Hollywood 3 Bike rack that fitted my polo perfectly, but wasn't going to clear the spoiler on my C in a million years. While, as Kvwloon says, there may be a, er, "strap-on solution" , I would point out that with a rack like this you will be unable to use the rear wipers, and struggle to lift the tailgate etc. Also, no matter how careful you are, you eventually end up scratching the car at some point. As I regularly carry downhill (read: big, heavy, and awkwardly shaped) bikes around I did the unthinkable and had a tow bar fitted so I can use a Pendle tow-bar rack. It's solid, doesn't touch the paintwork in any way, and can be easily removed from the tow-bar. Yes the tow-bar looks a bit silly, but if needs must...

LOL! Yea, I get it. For some reason Nero has locked the option to change the write speed at 8x. I guess I'll have to delve into the settings to find out why...
-
It's definately audio, as it wouldn't play in most other players otherwise. Muppet, cheers, I'll investigate the write speed. Incidently, I've found the finalise option, and it was definately checked when I wrote the Cd...

OK, why the hell doesn't the CD I just burnt work in my JVC headunit? It works in every other CD player I've tried, (except a real old Aiwa thing that I presume isn't compatible with CD-Rs), and my headunit is marked with a CD-RW logo that suggests that it should work with CD-RWs. Now, if it works with CD-RWs, it should DEFINATELY work with CD-Rs, right? It's a TDK 650MB CD-R disk, burnt using Nero, (which didn't give me the option to finalise) and like I say, it works in every other vaguely modern CD player I've tried it in! Any ideas?

So, after three months away at uni, I finally came home ang got it out the grarage. As some of you may know, I had some problems with the ABS and the windscreen, but that's all finally sorted. Having spent the last three months driving around in an old Mazda van, I'm loving my car even more! :D Oh, and please don't be too nasty about the tow-bar. It's kind of a necessary evil for me, and no, I don't tow caravans with it! I've owned it since March. It has a few of the usual issues, (sunroof only tilts etc) but I'm gradually sorting them, and it wouldn't be a Corrado if everything worked perfect, right?

WooHoo! I think we're getting somewhere! So the relay has been changed, along with a knackered wheel sensor. The ABS light went out for the first time since I've owned it, only to come on again down the road. Upon further inspection, it appears my car has been lowered slightly, but whoever did it managed to trap the ABS loom in some part of the suspension, causing it to get squashed everytime the car goes over a bump! A new loom is on the way. Let's see if that sorts it. I really had no idea my car had been lowered. Does it look lower to you guys?
-
Nah, definately fitted as standard....
-
An odd one... A friend of mine is currently doing some work on my car. (It sounds dodgy, but he knows what he's doing and I have the utmost confidence in him!) This is the first good going over it's had since I bought it back in March, and I asked him to try and sort out the ABS for me(warning light was coming on and staying on, car pulled to one side under breaking etc). Basically, he's had a bit of a mare with it as it appears that, at some point in the car's lifetime the ABS has been "fettled" by someone else. This has resulted in a rather bizarre wiring configuration. Using VAG COM my friend reckons he's traced my faulty ABS back to a faulty relay, which is now on order, but my question to you guys is, do any of you have any idea what the previous owner may have been trying to acheive by rewiring the ABS?
