Your spoiler problem is exactly the same as mine. I've yet to find the solution. Bet you're glad I posted that now eh?!

Yeah, I have a friend that runs an old diesel land rover off the used chip fat from the local take away. They pay him to take it away, he 'refines' it in his garage, and away he goes. I very much doubt he pays any duty on it, but he does it as much for the environmental implications as he does the financial aspect. Thing is, we can all sit here bitching about petrol prices, but we need to make our voices heard to people that matter. Personally, I would support petrol blockades, but can't help but think there must be a better way, as inevitably blockades result in people stockpiling, which renders the whole exercise kind of pointless....

Time for some thread ressurection, just to prove I searched! I was having similar problems (although my spoiler appears to be on the same circuit as the sunroof and glovebox light, on a 15A fuse that's lasted a year since I bought the car) so I stripped it down and greased the mechanism. Now the weirdest thing is happening: From the switch, the spoiler goes up a bit, then stops. Wait ten seconds or so, then there's a clicking from the tailgate, and pressing the switch again allows the spoiler to go up a bit more, until the same thing happens. Wait ten secs etc... Same thing on the way down. Now, my only clue is that I put too much grease in, and it's gumming up the switches that tell the mechanism when the spoiler is at full travel, but this wouldn't explain why waiting a bit allows it to go up a bit more. Any help appreciated!

£500 Escort Van - Failed MOT on 23 counts, including eight of "chassis integrity" or somethinbg like that! 1043cc MK3 Polo. Went 4 years without a single problem. Was dirt cheap to run and walked it's MOT everytime. Then I rear-ended a call-girl... 2l 16v C. Also, for the last eight months I've had a Mazda E2000 van. Awesomely practical and reliable, but damn it was thirsty! Made £50 profit on selling it though... :)

Hmm, obviously everyone's getting just TOO fed up with these questions! Well, for future reference, it WAS a fuse. No. 16, which is supposed to have nothing to do with the sunroof, but is responsible for the MFA and hazard lights, both of which worked fine. The electrics in my car never cease to surprise me...

OK, I know there's loads of info on both of these, but is there anything simple that can cause BOTH of these to fail within 30 secs of each other? If it weren't for the fact they're on different circuits, I'd say a fuse, as the roof isn't getting power as the switch light no longer comes on either. Also, the rear wiper, which is on the same circuit as the spoiler, still works fine. Spoiler wont work from the switch either...

Lol! Well, I DO have a tow bar, but it's only for the bike rack, so I suspect I'd change the symbol to something else. Could do an alarm/imoboliser relocation álá Chrisvr6nos, or would that just be plagarism..? ;)

Passat abs/seat belt/towing warning light block? Unfortunately, I've yet to wire up the non-standard warning lamps, but ONE day... ;) Pic

PMSL! Is that in St Andrews?

Aye, but Bedford is a long way away! :) Still, I wonder if it would work out much cheaper if you were to take your car along to have the work done, then, at the same time I throw my bumbers in next to it so the bodyshop can do it all at once. I then throw both you and the bodyshop some cash, so it works out slightly cheaper for both of us. Can anyone suggest wether or not a bodyshop would be willing to do this, and indeed wether or not it would actually be worthwhile? I have no idea how much I'd be looking at to get both bumpers sprayed, but I imagine most of the cost would be in gettting the shop to mix up the paint in the first place...
-
Biggerbigneil, is your car brilliant black metallic? I quite fancy having my bumpers resprayed, and was thinking, the ideal thing would be to find someone who wants some bits doing the same colour locally, then the sprayer can chuck it all in together and we can split costs. Not sure if body shops work like that though as I've no previous experience. Just a thought...

Aerial stolen - UPDATED with pics of suspect Corrado
Big-ted replied to CorradoWannabe's topic in General Car Chat
Guys, I can't help but think you're being a bit out of order here. It's pretty frustrating when "one of your own" does something like this. All this guy is doing is naming and shaming the suspect, not nominating him to be beheaded! Just my 2 cents worth... -
Right, lots spotted over the last few days. Two parked up at Martins in Basingstoke last Thursday. One a blue, N reg VR6, one a J reg G60, Black, I think. Then a Red G60 on Azev A's at Ridgeway VW in Reading. Anybody?

My friend, when it comes to contesting parking tickets, I have balls like you wouldn't believe... ;)

Crap! Does this still apply? I stood there yesterday chatting to some friends after I dropped them off.... Surely they would have to notify you at the time you comitted the offence?

Masked, rubbed down, re-masked, filled, primed, and began to spray rear bumber. Ran ou of paint halfway through, so will have to re-do all this when I have more time/paint/good weather. In the meantime my previously black bumber looks distinctly grey and patchy.... :(

Corradowales, lovin' that avatar! :D I think an updated, uprated C would sell pretty well tbh. Not in huge numbers, but certainly on a par with the likes of the Alpha V6 coupé and the Fiat thing. I think aside from the engines, the main thing that would need updating is the interior though. I have several friends that mistake my car for a much newer one, until they get inside and it's kind of like "What do you mean there's no air conditioning? And where's the switch to adjust the seat/lumbar support?" That said, I personally like the feel of the C's interior. It feels far more solid than any of the Fords, citroens etc I've been in lately. And, I dunno, modern interiors always look a bit "characterless" to me... Remember the photo that was doing the rounds a few months ago claiming to be the "new" corrado, when in fact it was just a photoshop of varios Corrado/A3/TT bits? I thought that car looked amazing! I'm sure others would agree, hats off to the person that chopped it....
-
Out of interest, what kind of figures would one expect for a, similarly powered, more modern coupe? Anybody?
-
I've had 38.4mpg doing a steady 80mph on the motorway. (M4-M25-M11). That was for the whole hour and a half journey. As mentioned above, it's pretty easy to get silly high readings by resetting the MFA at the apropriate moment.
-
Well, everyone seems to be posting new pics of late, so I figured I'd join in. I don't have anything particularly exciting on the car to show off, but I thought the locations were interesting. I think there may be something wrong with the green-sensitive CCD on my camera. I've tried to adjust levels a bit, but the grass really isn't radioactive around here, honest! Place is an old prisoner of war camp near me. It's real spooky sometimes. I took the overhead shot standing on top of an air-raid bunker!

Ah, thankyou kind sir! :) Is it literally a case of making up two of the earlier described looms then? And installing one for dipped beam and one for main beam?
