Can I ask a question on this? The loom described in the opening post of this thread claims to improve the dipped beam only, yet by the sound of it Gavin's improves both main and dipped. Can someone point the difference out to me? Many thanks!

Late heater controls - repair tips - Update 16/11
Big-ted replied to Kevin Bacon's topic in Interior
Well, just to add to this, this was my problem. The photo shows the underside of the main gear wheel, with damaged track for the arm controlling the screen-vent cable. The controls weren't at all grinding in use, but the control arm, hving left its track, would prevent the control from turning fully anti-clockwise. Incidently, the cable itself is free of kinks. Is it possible the mechanism it attaches to at the other end is stiff? I've got most of the dash out and can reach the other end to move it, but the lever itself seems stiff... -
Late heater controls - repair tips - Update 16/11
Big-ted replied to Kevin Bacon's topic in Interior
OK, a this thread appears to have been resurrected of late... For ages now, I've only been able to get 180° of movement out of the direction control. I couldn't get the setting in the top right (face only I think). I thought at first the dial had simply been put on at 90°, but changing doesn't appear to have solved anything. Firstly, how do I disconnect the cables from the control arms without damaging anything? I'm not convinced the cable is seized as it looks in pretty good nick and I can make it move a few mm if I move the arm directly. So I'd like to disconnect the cables to see if the dial turns freely. Also, Are we sure that it's the foot cable that goes on the bottom arm? I can't get the bottom arm to move using the dial, but I seem to be able to open/close the foot vents, but not the face vents. Could it be that the cables have been connected wrongly that's causing my problem? -

Nice. There are so many times when I long for something I can ride uphill as well... At the risk of getting into trouble for going off topic... Aston Hill Taken on the 4X course at my "local" hill. Apologies for the language of my friend! Wharnecliffe Taken on Steve Peat's "practice track". 8) And yes, I am just showing off now! I ride a turner DHR. I just swapped out my old '02 frame for an '04 having flared the headtube. If you're just gettting started, you will quickly learn that bikes can eat money almost as much as Corrados!! Are all the horror stories we hear about access issues in CA really true? -
Wahey! That last one's mine! :D I arrived a bit late with my mate in his LHD Golf G60. I think between us we had more dirt on our cars than everyone else there, so it seemed only apt that we were relegated to a dark corner of the car park! Will make more of an effort to get in the thick of things next time though! 'twas a good evening...

At the risk of disclosing my ignorance, why bother? The general consensus on here seems to be that the 1.8T swap is easier, and presumably, with it being 20V and generally a more modern engine, it has the potential for better results? Edit: Although I am aware of the whole supercharger/turbo debate, I find it hard to believe that it comes down to this?

Tell me about it. Wet trails suck. What d'ya ride? -
I know this has been done before, but search drew a blank... My paint code is LA9V. (Black of some sort) Halfords don't list it, and I suspect it's going to be expensive from the dealers. What to do in this situation?
-
OK, own up, who was it that pulled up alongside me at the Tescos in Chineham as I was refuelling, with his lad pushing as he had run out of fuel?! Was a beautiful blue G60. Sorry I wasn't more chatty, was in the middle of a minor domestic...

Um, without wanting to get too involved in this debate, can I add some questions to Henny's? I too have tried to join in the past with no success. Are non-members, like myself, who would be interested in joining (providing the concerns raised above are adressed) allowed to attend the AGM? Will there be an oppurtunity to join on the spot? If so, when/where is it? edit: Yep, what G60 jet said!

sorry guys,a whats it worth thread,1990 valver.
Big-ted replied to Riley's topic in General Car Chat
Jeez. I payed FAR too much for my valver. Over 3k with the usual electrical issues and just over 100k on the clock. It seemed reasonable when I bought it about a year ago, but I guess that's what you get for buying just after the Top Gear article, and not knowing about this place at the time! Yours looks lovely... -
Ooh, SO close! Green VR6 seen three times on the A33 heading towards Reading. You had a personalised plate of some kind. I was in my black valver heading south. I've waved a few times...
-
I had a tow ball fitted to mine by Indispension in Reading. I wasn't THAT impressed with the quality of work (they forgot to reconnect one rear light cluster and I'm convinced it's on crooked) but no cutting of the bumper was necessary. Also worth noting is that they can get removable ones so when you're not towing you don't have this ugly thing sticking out the back, something they only told me about after fitting! You can see mine here: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight= I don't use mine for towing though, just for my bike rack.
-
Well, the screwdriver marks may have been my fault, as I've had it appart a few times now, as did the previous owner, but I have alwyays felt it "bulged out" a little more than it should. You can't really see in the pic, but it isn't quite as flush as the blanking plate at the bottom, which looks as though it should be the same shape. Supercharged, the middle bit is the seatbelt warning light. The left hand light is the ABS light, and the right hand side is a trailer warning light. I'm not sure if this is wired in either. I have had a towbar fitted to my car (the shame) but it's for a bike rack, so I don't have anything to test the electrics out with. I doubt it works.... Out of interest, what is ETKA and how do I use it?
-
OK, is this not normal then?
-
Nope. If it wasn't standard equipment, it may just be that the PO fitted one from a Passat or something, and, as my car doesn't have the sensors, naturally the lights will never illuminate?
-
The other day some bloke pulled up behind me in a lowered Mk 2 as I was filling up. He starts pumping, looks over at me and says, "Not quite graduated to one of those yet." Hehe, one day my son......
-
Bizarre! I'll stick a pick up tomorrow, but basically it's in the same block as the ABS warning light. There's three bulbs in there, one is the ABS light, one is to warn you when you're indicating and towing, the other is the seatbelt warning light. I'd say it was from another car (passat etc) and the PO fitted it, but the Corrado owners manual talks about all the above features as well!
-
Does anyone have any idea how the seatbelt warning light is activated? Mine never comes on, and, while I know it's a tiny problem, I like these things to work as they should. :) The bulb is definately fine, as it lights with a 9v battery connected directly accross the terminals, so I was thinking it's a sensor somewhere. Trouble is, the owners manual says it's spposed to come on if the door's left open also. Is it likely BOTH sensors have gone or is there a fuse/relay somewhere that I should check?

Ah, you're all too slow! Problem solved. I love this forum... :D Some extra hints I learnt along the way: 1) It helps to dip the aerial base in hot water before you try to seperate the aluminium plate from the rubber housing, as this makes the housing more supple and therefore less likely to split. 2)I removed the foam using a combination of a mini blow-torch  and wire brush.
-
OK, I've established it's the inner one, as I suspected. Now, any idea how to get all the expanding foam off?
-
Right, I'm in the middle of doing this. I have two wires coming out the base of my ariel. A thick, black, co-ax cable, and a thin, black wire. I assume the former is the signal wire and the latter is the amplifier power supply. So I need to solder the signal wire directly to the button in the tip of the base unit, but the signal wire being co-ax, it has two terminals, inner and outer. Which one do I need to solder to the button :?: :!: My car is currently outside with a hole in the roof as a black cloud loows overhead. Immediate help much apreciated!!

There was recently a pretty thorough discussion of this here

Er, guys, you answered my question LONG ago. How about we leave it there?!
