I probably know him better than most as I lived only a mile away from him in Bournemouth while he bought and built the car. It *is* a cracking car, but read my post on P1 if you haven't already.

Jesus talk about a thread revival... Does anyone want to hazard a guess as why it's had so many owners since 24vRenshaw?

He should be less ostentatious and take an E320 diesel estate. Considering the current economic climate, if I worked for a sales director who turned up for work in an RS6 it would have go faster stripes on it very very quickly... not that I understand you couldn't say that in a job interview :(

I used Toyo T1-S for 5-6 years, including Track Days and never had an issue with them. In normal use, which I expect would be the same as the OP's 'normal use' I was getting 11,000-12,000 from a set of fronts. Getting 4,000 from a set of fronts is just ridiculous. I get 5,000 from a set of R888's on the front! Unless you drive everywhere like a complete to$$er you have a problem. Changing from Hancook is a good idea as they're pretty soft compound, but you really should get the geometry checked over as well. I suspect your tyre wear is likely to be related to poor geometry. Checking your tyre pressures is a good idea as well. HTH John

I wonder if a cheeky test drive will be easy to arrange at VW... you know... point out the window at the Corrado and they'll be easy to fool into handing me the keyfob...

I can think of far better ways to spend £1.2m on my garage contents myself. e.g. AMG E63 (£70k) Bowler Wildcat (£100k) Nissan GTR (£55k) Arial Atom s/c (£40k) Land Rover 90 (£25k) Ferrari F40 (£170k) Ferrari Daytona (£150k) Ford GT Roush-700 (£160k) Lamborghini Gallardo (£130k) MkII Escort Rally Car (30k) AC Cobra (£70k) Audi R8 (£90k) Aston Martin Vantage 600 (£80k) One car wouldn't be as much fun as that lot. And I have change left over...

A couple of things spring to mind... 1) My Corrado is invisible. Yes really! Try finding a photograph of it anywhere from either the large Stanford Hall Corrado Stand, or indeed the large Prescott Corrado stand ! My car is invisible ! Fortunately this invisibility also (touch wood) seems to apply to the Feds. 2) My VR6 the magician. In the past 12 months my car took more money than...well let's say it was a helluva lot of money and made the whole lot disappear without trace! The car still looks like a POS (albeit a very fast Pxxxx Ox Sxxx) but all my money disappeared somewhere ! It would have been cheaper to have gotton married (almost!). I suspect that the magical abilities of this particular car may also be a reason for (1) above. I love my Corrado though. The only way it could be better would be if £££ emitted from it's exhaust (as opposed to being swallowed by the engine) John

Calling planet Zog -is there room for Gordon Brown
corozin replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
Actually I'm kinda with Tempest's view on political reform. We need what I refer to as the "Kenny Everett" solution, ie "Let's round em up, put in a field, and BOMB THE B*STARDS !!". -
Calling planet Zog -is there room for Gordon Brown
corozin replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
I have to say I empathise with you a bit there. Choosing a political party is inevitably a process of selecting the 'least bad' (sic) from a set of bad alternatives. That said I think in 20 years time history may well judge the Blair/Brown years as being far less successful for the country that they (and many in the media) consider them to have been. Setting the other pet hates I have for them (erosion of civil liberties, over-acquiescence to both the USA & EU, Iraq war, dodgy party funding, lying in parliament, politicisation of the civil service & legal system, Lisbon Treaty referendum) and concentrating purely on the economics this lot have been an unmitigated disaster. Since 1997 Government spending has pretty much doubled (in real terms it's something like a 40% increase) and yet most of it has been squandered. Let's give you a couple of examples, so you can see what I mean. a) During 2001-2003 the MoD spent £3.5 billion refurbishing thier head offices in London, a building occupied by just 3500 people. In comparison the company I work for spent under £300 million building it's entire complex of offices in Bournemouth, which house over 5,000 staff. Less than a year after the MoD refurb was completed, 2,000 staff were relocated to regional offices outside London, leaving only 1,500 there. So at a time when our troops were crying out for proper armour, boots and even ammunition in Iraq for lack of funds the MoD spent £3,500,000,000 of your tax money improving offices for less than 1,500 top brass staff. b) How about the Olympics? Originally the bid was £3bn, then 6 months after it was secured it turned out they'd missed a lot of stuff off the calculation and it went to £4.7bn, then £7bn and by the start of this year it's was £12bn. Guess what - there's 4 years left for that to increase still further and it almost certainly will. Even at £12bn you have to question what we're getting for the money - even the late/overcost Wembly stadium was 'only' £650m. I have to say that £12bn sounds like a lot of money to me for a 3 week sports event. c) Transport for London. Although most people associate them with Ken Livingstone they are in fact a Quango funded by the Government. Did you know there are something like 14 'directors' working at TfL earning salaries above £150,000? What's that all about? What are any of them actually doing? They earn more than the Prime Minister! Similar largesse can be found all across the landscape of Quangos created in the last 11 years, who currently absorb approx £130bn of Governement money each year. When Blair came to power in 1997 he promised to end the Quango-culture. In fact under Labour there are now three times as many Quangos, spending 5x as much money, as was the case in 1997. The list of Labour Government initiatives leading to cost over-runs in the order of 3x, 5, or even 10x thier original budgets is almost endless. The NHS computer systems, the MOD computer systems, the Millenium Dome, Wembley, the Eurostar rail link, the Scottish & Welsh Parliament buildings, Eurofighter (£22bn). Hell did you know that on his visit to India at the start of the year, Gordon Brown donated India £850m of your money as aid? India is now the 11th richest country in the bloody world and we're giving them aid money! I'm not saying the tories would be better across the board. In many ways (unemployment) they would be worse, but the legacy of financial mismanagement alnoe should not only be enough to see this lot removed from office, but in my view disqualified from office as MPs. They are a bloody disgrace, but as Kev says - somehow they got voted in. :mad2: It's all your fault - you barstewards who voted for them -

funnily enough us "Scotts" are subject to these same ideas even tho we have our own Scottish Parliament.............also I didn't realise you needed to be English to be the BRITISH prime minister You're absolutely right Roddy, but I can't help but think that even the Scots would baulk at the idea of Gordon Brown running things in Edinburgh. :D -
Trust me - no one will turn up. Everyone will say 'yeah yeah yeah' until the point where actual money and commitment is required and you'll be lucky to find yourself with two mates. The best thing to do (seriously) is to encourage everyone to book into something like one of the Autometrix track days. They're not expensive, very well run and there's lots of VWs at them. Best of all you don't really have to organise very much. Next one is July 26...

Calling planet Zog -is there room for Gordon Brown
corozin replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
I don't know about planet Zog, but I reckon you could point 57 Hubble telescopes into the sky and not see the planet that useless tosser lives on. You guys worried about car tax? That's not even in the top 10 big problems our country is facing after eleven years of this lot in power. General taxation is at an all time high, the government has no reserves of any kind, is forced to issue loan bonds against future tax income in order to get by and our gold reserves were sold years ago for a fraction of thier actual value. Entire books have been written about Labour's financial incompetance. Government spending is at a record high, taxes are at an all time high, borrowing (PSBR) is at an all time high, our reserves have been sold off & squandered, and even now Labour keeps making new spending commitments as if nothing was wrong. As the credit crunch bites and we are all forced to tighten our belts and economise just to get by, New Labour continues spending more and more and more and more without even considering the impact it has on taxpayers, and seemingly oblivious to the wordwide circumstances, the credit crunch, or even the results of opinion polls which currently rank Gordon Brown the least popular Prime Minister since polling began. The country is about to go into recession, make no mistake. The current level of public debt run up by Gordon Brown is currently running at something like £48,000 for every single working person in the UK. That's if your job hasn't been offshored or given to one of the the 1.5 million Poles now resident in the UK You think petrol taxes are high? New Labour has wrecked our country's finances almost beyond the point of repair. We are all going to be paying for this awful mess for a very long time indeed. In fact there is a real chance our children will have to pay some of it off - it really is that bad. [/RANTOVER] John -
I absolutely agree with this 100% Dom. If it your first time at a track day you will learn more in that 20 minutes with an instructor than you would believe possible. It will also give you some proper confidence; going on track for the first time usually produces one of two emotions - sheer nerves or over-confidence - both of which are a disadvantage. John

Pretty close; it's an original 1958 Lister Jaguar with a late version of the Costin bodywork (Mike Costin went on to design the Ford Cosworth engine). Only 18 ever built, and only 4-5 survive today. Absolutely beautiful. :luvlove:

It's normally at around this point in any trackday thread that I turn up (late) and offer some extra advice but I thought on this occasion I'd change tack. I was at a slightly more expensive trackday at Goodwood last weekend. £100 airfield days are terrific fun, but when you go upmarket you start to see kit like this on track (especially the last one - plaudits awarded for anyone who can correctly identify it. Clue : it's very very rare) John

Diploma Thesis - Survey on Formula One and motor sport clubs

Supported and a free bump for you Daniel. Good luck with your thesis, although I can't help but think that an analysis of the influences in F1 politics would give you more material to work with! John -
Things Mechanics' say to fill you with confidence?!
corozin replied to Jay2's topic in General Car Chat
I have a few entries: - "Well I've taken a quick look and I don't think it's going to be a big job" - "Don't worry about that too much" - "I've never seen one of these do that before" - "Can I have for a few days to really check it over & I'll give you a call" -
And I thought the waiting list for Later with Jools Holland was bad... (5yrs)

I spoke to Ben last night & he told me about it. Fortunately I had a cheeky copy of the programme recorded electronically & tracked him down. Apparently there is a 7 year waiting list to be in the audience for TG now. If you look closely enough you can see Ben's lips moving : "haha suckers" I think he's saying. :D p.s. As for "found on the internet" I don't think the answer to that takes much imagination. It wasn't eBay thats for sure, LOL

Glasses' guide shows the trade price, not the forecourt price. I wouldn't get hung up about the Glasses' book. The reason for the difference you're seeing could be the additional depreciation against the mileage. 70k for a 5 year old car is above average (48k), so you should expect it to book below average for that reason alone. Will also depend on the dealer's interpretation of the A1/good condition situation. I suspect in this case the guy may be desperate to move the Verso - hence the lower price. Times are tough out there right now. You might be able to haggle him down a bit more even Just my 2p.... clink...

Some tips on keeping a convoy together
corozin replied to dinkus's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
With reference to point (5) in my earlier post I have received reports that Guy's attempt at convoy driving back to the UK from Worthersee a few weeks ago failed miserably when he got bored with waiting for everyone in Germany & covered over 500 miles in just 4 hours, including two petrol stops... I understand vMax at one point over over 185mph. The man is a driving God, but he is shit to be in a convoy with, LOL
