No offence taken  Yes I was a bit put off by how complicated the water pump sounded to change, decided to give it a go though. If the worst happens and I cannot get my car back together there is a mechanic in my village who will come and sort it out (I will play the helpless woman card). The same mechanic is going to do my clutch. He says if I get the bits he'll fit them for £80. I don't think its ever had a clutch change and its now pushing 140k.
-
Yeah, i am 24, five years ncb, 3 points sp30, could have got fully comp for £350. oh and i've got the 1.8 valver
-
Er, rather you than me! I'm not going to attempt it this weekend because I want to go to santa pod on sunday and don't want my car in bits!!
-
OK, thanks for your help Henny :notworthy: I will attempt this next weekend.
-
Great I'll add 'change the clutch' to the long list of things to do! Is it worth getting the clutch kit AND a new slave cylinder or shall I just renew the slave cylinder and see if it helps? And one last question.....Is it the same on a golf ie can I use the golf haynes manual?
-
whats the most you have paid on your insurance premium?
blackcat replied to surfer.vr6's topic in General Car Chat
The most I have ever paid is £800 fully comp on a 1.4 clio when I was 19. -
Today I did an oil change and it took me a good half hour to get the bloody filter off!! Tomorrow or weds I'm going to change the front brake discs and pads. Then I just have the water pump to fit and the clutch to sort out and the exhaust to fix.......... the list goes on :(
-
I've looked at the GSF website. Does anyone know what the clutch kit includes?? BTW 2cc, it's very nice of you to show me a pic of your release arm but I've no idea what it is or what it's supposed to look like!
-
Is the slave cylinder expensive then?
-
Damn. :( So many things to fix so little money!! Which bits will need replacing then?
-
I've had my car (1.8 16v) for about 6 months now. The biting point on the clutch has always been quite low, but now it judders on pulling away. Has my clutch had it? What do I need to check/do?
-
I did quite fancy a impreza at one point but they're really common now. When I'm 25 (and can afford the insurance) I'm going to sell my 1.8 16v and get a VR6 corrado.

The more I think about this job the less I can be bothered to do it. I think I will just take it to a garage and get someone else to do it!!
-
yeah I got the O rings with the pump. Can I get the thermostat and plastic flange from Halfords?
-
Is the thermostat a separate part, I thought it was inside the water pump? Is it an awkward job to do then? In the golf haynes manual it says you have to remove power steering pump too. Did you have to do this?
-
OK, so I've bought a water pump from GSF. On reading another thread on here about water pump, it says to make sure to get the whole pump not just the impeller. I got a complete water pump so will this contain all I need??

Grey j reg (16v I think), with red vw badges today on the outskirts of Bedford about 2pm ish.

I agree, bloody tree huggers!! 'Top Gear falls short in its responsibility to educate viewers and acknowledge the interests of women drivers.' Why should every programme on TV be about educating someone about something? I am a woman driver and I watch top gear because it interests and entertains me. Isn't that what TV is supposed to be about?! (Can just imagine what Clarkson has to say about this!!)

Is this anyone's car?, this pic was taken about a year ago. Just found it on my computer.
-
This is me after one too many!!
-
my car is 4.8!! Stupid chav fiesta lovers.
-
Thanks, mate. I've got a long list of things to get, might aswell get them all together. Must remember to take card then.
-
Which oil and filter is best for a '91 1.8 16v?? Mine has a unipart filter, that's not good is it?
-
Some GSF offer discount to clubgti, just wondering......... Maybe I should go in a really low cut top, might help do you think??
-
Does anyone know if GSF in Hitchin offer a discount for being a ccgb member?
