Did I? 8)
-
Well it's about time I got a couple of pics on here, just been out to take these tonight....... Specs are: VR6, standard Koni coilovers OZ futuras, 16x9 on the back, 16x8 on the front Red rear lights Milltek exhaust That's it!

Well.... a splash of ATF and 30 miles later and it's quietened down quite a bit! I can hardly believe the difference! I guess that confirms it's a sticky tappet, agreed? Stuart, the last oil change was done about 4000 miles ago, gonna change it at the weekend for some Synta if I have time and see how it is after that. cheesewire, the ATF trick is very popular with the old mk2s 8) I might go ahead and change the tappets sometime as I'm now pretty convinced that's the problem 8) It's probably just within my technical ability too
-
Aye, half a litre of ATF added to the oil for 100 miles or so then an oil and filter change, the detergents in the ATF clean everything up nicely.
-
I'm gonna try a bit of ATF in for a few miles then change the oil, it's been about 4k since it was last done. Is it easy to check the oil pressure? What should it be? It's never shown up any lights or anything.
-
Oh and - are they adjustable?
-
Well - it made the same noise before it went in to get it's chains done and I was hoping it was chain related and would disappear, however it's still there. I can't see the timing being wrong both before and after the chains were done surely? And it was done by a VW specialist with a good reputation round here. dr_mat it's had a few good thrashes and it never gets any quieter. It has been getting worse over time. peanut - oil is fine, no blue smoke at all, noise is defo coming from that side of the head. I'll check the breather when I have time. How noisy can shagged tappets get? How hard is it to change tappets?
-
That's what I'm hoping for too dinkus
-
Yep - done just a month ago! The noise is coming from the other side of the engine anyway....
-
I am getting a loud rattly noise coming from what sounds like the head on my VR6, sounds like it's coming from the rear at the drivers side. Anyone any ideas what it might be? Video sound file is here - http://loader.sc0rian.com/users/diggerbucket/MVI_1103.avi The sound is actually harsher in real life, I can hear it when driving around.

Anyone fancy helping a fellow corrado owner out??
diggerbucket replied to herisites's topic in Drivetrain
I can't help as I'm too far away but I can tell you that undoing the rear engine mount and jacking up the engine is enough to get the wishbone off, I did this just about a month ago :thumbleft: -
Definitely need one for split rims.

Posted in his own thread in Members Gallery yesterday afternoon....

Remember to check them after a couple of weeks and re-tighten if necessary.
-
Probably because it's got to be absolutely bone dry before you do anything with it, no point sealing any moisture in!
-
Hey I just broke that thing in the second pic whatever that is  Just where your leftmost arrow is pointing, the big lumpy bit broke off the pipe heading off to the left of that pic? Technical terms being used here
-
If they are not noisy and feel smooth you could just try nipping them up a bit? No point replacing them if they are ok. If you do however, VW are the best and yeah the races will bang out no bother.
-
Just over 3k so far, another 2k or so until I'm happy with it :brickwall:
-
And the wishbone bolts, one of mine was clunking about last week.
-
T-cut....? This is the first time I've ever made this joke on an internet forum, and I feel terrible about it. It's out of my system now and I won't be doing it again.
-
Yeah I'd go with that, at some point it will become obvious by spinning the wheels by hand which one it is. Just don't go running like that for too long!
-
If the noise doesn't vary when you change direction, it is more likely to be a rear bearing. Not always easy to know where it's coming from just by the sound too.

Where is the ABS relay and fuse on a VR6?
diggerbucket replied to diggerbucket's topic in Engine Bay
Tried another ABS ECU today and it's still totally dead, no light, nothing. Any other ideas? The 3 relays which are hidden in the passenger footwell - which ones are for ABS and are there fuses up there too? It was dry as a bone down there too so it can't be water damage. -
Modified front arches - what to do with splashguards?
diggerbucket replied to diggerbucket's topic in Exterior
Must a gazzzzillion people running about in Corrados with their inner arches flapping about  -
Modified front arches - what to do with splashguards?
diggerbucket replied to diggerbucket's topic in Exterior
Well... I don't fancy the idea of removing them completely! Anyone that's done this got any input?
