1st) my girlfriends mk4 1998 fiesta 1.4. she put some water in the brake filler reservuoir (sp) about 4 months ago and i syphened out all the liquid and put brake fluid back in about 50 miles after she put the water in. however i think it has got air locks in there becuase u have to PROPER stamp the pedal to get it to stop, if i drain the brake fluid will that sort it out? 2nd) my girlfriends bought her brothers focus T reg 1.8 16v zetec now this is a funny one: its done 61K the cambelt was done and serviced @ 60K now i think they may have done the cambelt too tight/slack perhaps becuase on idle you can really here the belt going round and ford zetec engines are usually good solid quiet reliable blocks so im not sure whats going on there. also, i dont know if this is related or not, but when you're going down the road at anything over 20 mph you can feel vibration thru the cabin, especially in the footwell area up the front. initially i thought it was a driveshaft becuase ive had them go before and it sounds like the monotonous rumble but it does it out of gear too so i dont think that it is a shaft gone. im not very hot on suspension components or steering racks does anyone have any inclinations or things to try? cheers all 8)

new car? no chance. unless it was a kia.

thats pretty bitter for 18! i once got the wool pulled over my eyes when buying a car when i was younger - wont let that happen again, it kind of tainted my view of private sales, i was a little bit naive back in those days.
-
hmm i just noticed my age is 18, i must have typed that in wrong its 21 :D ill change it now.

i agree there, and you can usually tell from the hands on with someone if they are lieing bastards or not, if you're a decent judge of character. the problem is you are already obliged to buy this car having bid on it on ebay! so if you go there even with a mate and its a dog you're gonn aget shitty feedback. when i buy cars on ebay i dont bid on it on the auction, i do it all over phone / email and viewing incase something goes pete tong :)

whats to stop the seller lieing about the amount of motorway miles, u cant really proove it very easily. in this world people are all skum until prooved otherwise so i would take comments like that with a pinch of salt.

well i had a fiddle around and none of the drains are blocked at all, they're fully functional. the only thing i can think of is in its closed position the sunroof seems to be tilting back / sagging towards the rear of the car slightly, how can i adjust this becuase i think maybe this might be it.
-
im 100% sure its leaking from the sunroof area, ie the roof :D i know this becuase when i hit a bump this morning in the torrential rain i felt water on my head where it was leaking from the sun roof area. i have checked it is not damp anywhere else along the sun roof or roof lining at all, up the front etc. i can see damp marks in the middle of the sunroof where it is coming through so it is definately something amiss in that area. thanks everyone i will investigate further tonight.... i had a good nose around and thankfully there is no evidence of other leaks in the footwell that i have read alot about through searching...(he says...).

ive looked into thihs further and it does'nt make any sense. the seal on the sunroof itself looks to be in really good condition and theres no reason for it to be leaking at the back, inside the sun roof there is a rubber seal that rund along the inside of the sunroof like the normal door seals etc and this looks to be a bit shoddy, perhaps it is that i need to replace? can anyone advise?

hi mate i was in the same boat as you. if u goto RALLY NUTS @ http://rallynuts.com/motorsport/contact.asp they sell the momo and OMP bosses to fit. i had a momo wheel and they flogged me the OMP boss it was about 8 quid cheaper and exactly the same fitment. they are excellent i ordered at 4pm it was on my desk 10am next day 38 quid delivered, tweeks and everywhere else wanted nearly 50 quid i cannot fault them at all great guys :)
-
sounds expensive mate, how much was it chris?
-
i have put a momo gear nob on and the throw is now mega long  i want to cut the gearstick down an inch or two, is it detachable from the car so i can put it in a clamp or am i gonna be sawing it in the car   any thoughts lads?

hi again henny you are a star cheers mate. its a K regger, i believe that makes it a later model :D ive done door cards loads of fiestas, saxos, civics so im sure its not rocket science, i was just wondering if there are any nasty hidden screws to worry about. good idea about the b&q bag i like it, after some more searching ive found membrane from VW is only a fiver so i dont mind paying that for the right piece of kit. one of my old cars was a 106 GTI that after i had bought i realised had been in a massive rear / side accident and that thing leaked from the boot, the sunroof, the doors weren't on i had to do the hinges and new seals all round and i had to remove the whole carpet and put new sound deadaning in LOL what a nightmare, so im a bit handy on the old interiors now - i hope this one isn't that bad thanks again bud.
-
hi henny, i am not very clued up on technical names for parts on cars but by membranes do you mean the thin covery sheet stuff that is found under the door card? ive gotta swap out the window, on that side of the car funnily enough so can i just replace with a bin bag or something and glue it down :D? ive heard that the door cards on the corrie are right bastids to get off, any tips? cheers for the quick reply mate :)

hey everyone, i have noticed today that the sunroof is leaking. it appears to be worse at the rear and it is leaking in the interior 2/3 of the way across where the carpet splits to allow the rear half of the sunroof to bend upwards. it appears to just be a faulty rear seal around the outside of the metal sunroof. is it possible to just get a new seal from VW, how much am i looking at paying??? also i have a leak on the iniside of the foot sills on the outside where it says CORRADO - is that the "membrane" that ive read about and hence a door car off job?

im there

VTS isn't for someone who cant afford a GTI its for someone who doesn't want to pay an extra 20-25% for the same car, its just a badge.
-
ordered some momo gear from http://rallynuts.com/motorsport/contact.asp they were very courteous and knowledgeable, great prices too much cheaper than tweeks or larkspeed.
-
yes they're cheap as chips and fun when you put 1.4 furio steel wheels on and furio badges :)
-
