If it's the Mille miglia cup 3's then that you're looking at then let us know if you find somewhere that stocks them. I wrecked a wheel 4 months ago and am really struggling to replace it, they aren't casting anymore at the moment and they couldn't give me a date when there would be anymore. They've already discontinued one on the cup types so I'm getting worried :(

Once again, thanks for the kind words of support guys. Kinda wished I'd posted earlier as the first couple of weeks were pretty dark ones but I've adjusted pretty well to life without wheels, and feel like the whole thing is behind me now and I'm getting on with things. That insurance info was interesting JoeNose, my blood alcohol wasn't very high (relatively speaking), .63 which is under twice the limit so it may not be quite as bad as I was expecting. Ah well I'll just have to see next year.
-
Yeah, I'm counting the days (343 to go). I'm hoping that the money I save on running costs in the next year might go towards a schrick, I guess I'll have to see what the insurance companys have to say....

When I heard that the driveshaft had decoupled on my car I instantly thought big bucks, it hadn't occurred to me that it's bound to happen when the wishbone gets wrecked. Fortunately my drive shaft wasn't bent. 500? That sounds very reasonable, I would have thought that the parts alone would have come to more than that. Glad to hear it's gonna be back on the road anyway.

Oz Record, if Mille Miglia aren't going to cast any more Cup 3's (so I can replace my wrecked one) then this might be my next choice:[/img] Kinda like a modern update on a speedline.
-
1. RH ZW1 2.Porsche Turbo cup3 :) 3.OZ Record, haven't seen these on a C yet, reckon they'd really suit. 4.Speedlines 5.OZ evolution, slightly swept flat 5 spoke with a sculpted edge. I always loved this wheel, never see them anywhere.

"I'm glad you had it repaired though as there aren't many Ice Greys about." Thanks Kev (love your car by the way, I consider it a bit of a bench mark, something to aspire to). I'm a couple of grand worse off (insurance is null in DD situations) but there was no way I could let it go, an ice grey is for life not just for christmas :) I've no idea what my insurance will be, currently £500, 32, 7 years NCB with all mods declared. Probably pretty horrendous. I paid through the nose when I got my first C when I was 24 so I'll just have to bite the bullet again, who'd be a car enthusiast out of choice huh? Thanks for the votes of sympathy folks, it's taken me a few weeks to pluck up the courage to post owing to the shame

Cheers dinkus, sorry to hear about your C, seems to have faired rather worse than mine. I've heard of so many cars crashing on greasy roads in the past few weeks, I know of at least 3 at the place I work at (all rear wheel drive). Do ya reckon you'll get another? There isn't really another car (that I could afford) that I'd like over a corrado.

I don't often contribute to the forums but I check them out every day and kind of feel part of the comunity even if it's a very quiet part so I thought I'd share my tale of woe. A few weeks ago on a saturday morning I entered a roundabout a little too quickly and the next thing I knew I was sideways and headed for the kerb, I bounced off and came to rest at the side of the road (policeman later told me that the road was really greasy). Upon getting out I saw that the front drivers side wheel was ripped to pieces and sitting at a crazy angle. I knew that it wasn't going to be going anywhere without a tow truck so I rang the AA, unfortunately for me a passing police car stopped before they arrived. They asked if I would mind giving a breath test, not a problem, I'd given them before on a couple of routine stops, imagine my shock when the previous night's drinking binge gave me a reading that exceeded the limit. I was hastily shipped off to the station where I failed another test and put in the cells for a few hours. I was in complete shock, I'm always really consciencious about drink driving, I felt a little hungover but no more, I knew then that it was gonna be bad. I was given a court appearance date and 2 weeks later I had my (clean) licence taken off me, given a 16 month ban and a £400 fine on the same day that I recieved a £1700 bill for repairs to the car. They had to replace the wishbone, caliper and discs, wing and respray the side of the car. The upshot for the car is that one side of it looks immaculate, gleaming and no parking dents while the rest of the paintwork looks pretty poor in comparison. The guys who did the work said they'll do the rest of it for me next year for a good price as they love the car so much, they even offered to buy it off me. It's now sat in a barn up in Yorkshire at my parents place where it'll get driven on a private stretch of road every couple of weeks. It's on a space saver as Mille Miglia aren't casting any more Cup 3's till february and maybe not at all(?). So I'm carless for a year (was offered a course that get's a quarter off the ban), I miss it terribly, though it was worse seeing it in it's parking space outside my flat so it's better that it's out of sight. The only upsides of the whole thing are that noone else was involved, I don't think I could live with that and that I don't need the car for work, 2 hrs walking every day, ah well it's good for me. So there's my yuletide tale of woe, I don't expect any sympathy at the end of the day DD is DD, I guess the moral is it's party season so think twice before getting in the car in the morning. Anyway I'll still be kicking around the forums, spending the next 12 planning future mods. cheers

Cool, that shouldn't be too bad then. It's booked in on friday for the garage to have a look so fingers crossed it's nothing worse. cheers,

I reckon it was a mistake, probably made the passenger side handle and then mirrored the parts for the drivers side. I can't think of any rational reason for reversing the thread direction. Anyway I feel suitably silly now, can't believe I didn't try it the other way in the first place
-
Oh god. Well thanks for confirming that I'll pop out at dinner and have a go at it the right way. cheers,
-
Oh sh!t, don't tell me that I spent half an hour trying to turn it the wrong way? I was under the impression that it's always righty tighty, lefty loosey!

Okay second problem of the morning, over the last couple of weeks I've noticed a ticking sound develop from the engine that increases in speed with the revs. The cars going in for a service this week so I'd like to prepare myself if it's something major, (which I kind of feel it probably is) it's done 97,000 now so could be chain tensioner time?
-
Drivers side handle went last week, (first one in 2 corrados and 6 yrs of ownership so I'm not complaining) so I ordered a new one and tried to fit it on sunday morning only to find the screw that holds the handle was rusted to hell and wouldn't budge. I tried wd40, a hammer and a big monster screw driver but it still wouldn't shift, anyone got any tips on removing rusty screws or am I going to have to get it drilled out? Cheers,

I'd prefer black, are mk IV golf dials not very visible in daylight then? Don't like the thought of silver, smells of halfords/nova boy.

"they have a museum that isn't open to the public?" I think it's classed more as a private collection, I'm sure if you were to pull up at the gates in ya C they'd be willing to let ya have a look around though :)
-
I've seen a VR in the musuem in the Karmann factory in Osnabruck, might be the one that Tiff drove back to the factory? I got a guided tour of the museum and the factory cause a friend lived there and new someone who worked there (it's not open to the public as far as I know). It was really interesting, some cool one offs like the Scirrocco and C convertibles and a cool 2000 karmann sports car that they couldn't find a backer for.

I had a bad experience with VW Parkway in Derby, (they broke the fascia of car my stereo and just lodged it back in place hoping I wouldn't notice, they fessed up eventually but I was shocked that a main dealer would do that in the first place) and have never been back. I can recommend Sunset VW on Uttoxoxeter old road in the centre of town 01332 346688, they are 2 ex VW head mechanics and know their way around the car, I think labour costs are around £27 an hour which isn't bad I don't think. HTH.
-
Ummm, it's a racecar.
-
I'll try and take one tomorrow.
-
Well noone else has mentioned it so I'm gonna put in my vote for the 944 Turbo SE. 250bhp as standard and if you pick up this months copy of GT purely porsche there is an article on extracting over 370bhp for about £1300. Big bang for few bucks. I've wanted one since I was about 12, my next motor will be that or a 968, if I ever could ever bring myself to let the C go.

Has anybody with diavia air-con ever managed to do the "thermal fuse fan speed fix"? I think I've mentioned this before but my fan only works on 4, I've checking the contacts on the control panel and I'm 99% sure that it's not them so I'm assuming that it's the thermal fuse. I've had lower part of the dash off and the glove box out numeous times but the fan in my car looks nothing like a normal fan and there isn't a resistor pack like I've seen in the photo guide. Looking through the glove box I can see some wires going in to the top of the fan assembly just below the windscreen, they're completely inaccesible but this the only place that I can think the resistor pack could be. Also if it's a different type of fan what are the odds of 2 different units having the same thermal fuse fault? Sorry about the lengthy post but this is really starting to p!ss me off now. Cheers,
