Was anyone here drivin the Mystic Blue Storm I saw comin out of Sheffields 'Decathlon' car park about 5:25 this afternoon as I left the 'Klaussner' car park? Followed it to the roundabout but the driver was goin in a different direction to me... Looked all standard and pretty tidy.

Cheers Dinkus, VERY carefully - does that mean there's some plastic 'prongs' that go through the panel that I'm most likely gonna snap? Would the missus's hair dryer count as a hot air gun? :lol:

On the subject of bodywork, anyone know how to remove badges (the 'corrado' and 'VR6' ones) from the rear so I can repair a dent there? Oh - and I want to be able to put them back on...

Had the tracking checked at another garage today with some laser kit - front wheels were toed in 7 degrees. I think I could have got it nearer myself with sticks and a tape measure :? So 20 quid later the VR feels like a car again rather than a trolley. That's 20 quid I shouldn't have had to spend but I couldn't be assed with the hassle any more...

Anything similar for screws? I need to get the notorious 'middle screw' out of my headilghts so that I dont have to take out the whole air box to replace bulbs. The best thing i've seen is the jml screw remover...£10 from woolworths - anybody tried these?

The plot thickens... The VR has been back into the garage today. I took it in at 9am and asked them to check the tracking. Initially they couldnt even find the target in the mirror, until the boss came over and found that the tracking was out by about 2 inches, so there was no way they'd be able to see it... Then they tried to adjust the tracking, but managed only to completely unscrew the joint inside the new steering gaiter, at which point I decided it was time to leave them to it and go to work :? Anyway, I left work to pick it up at 4ish expecting all to be well (as they'd taken it for a test drive) and drove it off happy, until I realised that it felt very similar to when I took it in - better, but still quite scary to drive! It still feels really jumpy and light and is still not straightening up well when turned over half a turn to the right. So - I called the garage when I got back to work, and the mechanic's gonna have a chat to his boss about it tomorrow. I suspect that the tracking may still be out? Any other theories (or agreements) would be greatly accepted cos this is really bugging me - the car was fine before I took it in, and as I said earlier, they did a really good job of rebuilding the front left of my car after I bent it. Essay over :)

Cheers Kev! I think it was the steering rack one (called it a gaiter?). The thing is that the same guy did a good job of rebuilding the left side of the steering after I kerbed it pretty hard on new years eve. It was handling great till I took it back to get the new boot put on.... The car runs straight - is it that the wheels are both pointing inwards, so it's trying to pull round more when I steer?

I took my VR to the local garage today to get a new rubber boot installed on the steering, as the old one had split and died. Since I got it back it seems to be understeering like mad and skipping around the road over even the smallest of bumps. The steering is also very light, and the steering wheel is now about 30degrees out of straight. Another problem is that the steering is taking considerable effort to turn back to straight once i've turned it over half a turn. It tries to turn more rather than straightening up when released. Does anyone know what may be causing this? Could it be poor tracking, or is it more likely to be something wrong where he's reconnected the joint? Help!

In my experience the 'buy back' cost depends on the amount they're gonna pay out. I was offered £2200 for my 140K VR, with the option of £230 buy back. I declined their kind offer :fist: , which they upped to £2700 with - you guessed it - a £450 buy back option...

Post them some clips of similar condition VR's from Autotrader to illustrate what sort of price they're going for. You might also have to send them photocopies of your service book and reciepts for the rebuild etc, as proof of it's good condition. Also never accept your first offer - explain the situation and calmly explain that you can't accept. They'll be getting more reasonable by your third offer, but unfortunately I think it'll be hard to get the full value of your motor.

What's the method for removing the rear badges so that they can be easily replaced? I need to do this for some minor filling repairs. Why are you debadging?

When you say you were averaging 24 mpg - what sort of driving were you doing? For reference my C VR6 does about 22 mpg if I use it for the 2 mile journey to work (so it's running cold), or about 34 on long mixed journeys. I've managed 42 mpg taking it really easy in 5th across town at 30mph -ish.

I never use a car wash. Will occasionally use a jet wash if i'm short on time (or if it's too cold) but you can't beat doing it at home with a sponge, hose and wax for a good finish!

Spotted a Blue Storm N161*** parked up on the road directly outside English institue of sport in Sheffield about 7pm today. Anyone from here?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the lens the only difference between the early/late headlights? I think the rest of the headlight is interchangable.

Thanks for the advice guys - was gonna rip the 'crossover' out and wire straight from the connection plate into the woofer. I'll leave the thing in and see how it sounds...
