  1. Should be able to do this when I'm home as I have a coil off my 93 vr6 on the shelf in the garage, only prob is I'm currently in New Zealand so it will be early next week before I can do. Hopefully someone will be along in the mean time but send me a reminder if no one gets back to you before I'm back.
  2. Has anyone repaired a fan control module? I've been fault finding in my '93 VR6 as the cooling fans weren't operating, using the sticky cooling thread I established the FCM was faulty and upon opening it up found a couple of solenoids (I think that's what they were)that were loose. So I soldered them back on and the FCM works, however with the exception that the aux water pump doesn't overrun when the ignition is switched off (I believe it should run on for 10 mins or so). The strange thing is that it will run with the fans if the yellow temp sensor or fan thermo-switch is bridged. So can someone confirm this is definitely not right, I believe even with the engine cold it the aux fan should overrun? And secondly suggest what I should look at in the FCM to try to address this? Thanks
  3. I just fitted a new expansion tank and that sorted the light. I will have a look at my old tank to see if the connectors are bent though....
  4. 1993 Corrado VR6 I need to replace the Lupo GTI wiper blades on my corrado as after 4/5 years they have gone hard. The conversion was done by the previous owner so Im not sure which blade size to get. AT the moment they are both 19'' and go nicely close to the top of the screen and sit close when parked. BUT I have searched on here and read of people fitting 21'' on both wipers or 21'' (Drivers side) and 19'' (passengers side). I believe the Lupo has 21 and 19 origionally. What is the correct and best sizes to go for? I can see how the extra lenght of the 21'' blade would fit unless the extra 2'' over what I have got is on the lower end of the windscreen? Cheers for any help!
  5. So is mine, maybe 2 to 3 years old. I was wondering if the tank was abit dodge, given you have the same prob on the same age tank I think it will be worth changing mine to see if it makes a difference.
  6. Do you mean the sensor in the expansion tank (i.e. the 2 spikes?) or the temperature sensors? Is there a pressure sensor too? I thought the only thing linked to the coolant light was the expansion tank?? I might be wrong
  7. Glad im not alone! Its really annoying aint it, having to start the car 2 or 3 times before setting off!! Even though I know the water level is not low I hate driving it with the light on.... Hopefully someone will come along soon and have an answer :salute:
  8. 1993 Corrado VR6 I have an annoying problem with the low coolant warning lamp flashing a few seconds after starting the car from cold. The light will come on a few seconds after starting and will stay on until you switch the car on and off, after running for a few mins then restarting the light will not come on again. The coolant level is perfect so not a problem there. The fact that is goes off once the engine has warmed a little and restarted would indicate to me that there is a heat related poor connection somewhere? At the weekend I tried to measure the resistance over the spikes in the expansion tank by taking the plug off and putting a multimeter on the two connections. The multimeter showed infinate resistance, but I would expect that the there would be a slight connection (as the current runs through the water to connect the crcuit, right?). So does this point to the expansion tank being alittle defective, but what I dont understand is why will the warning light go out when the car is warmer? There are no moving parts in the expansion tank etc... I thought a test would be to unplug the connection into the expansion tank and bring the connection with a wire (i.e. completing the circuit as it would through the water) thus removing the expansion tank from the equation. Would this cause any damage do you think? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as this has me stumpted! Thanks
  9. An update: went to the scrap yard today and got the metal tap from a mk3 golf fan knob, fitted it to the corrado knob and it works perfectly!! Turns out although the fan speed knob on a mk3 golf is on the other side the electrical contacts are interchangeable with a late corrado.
  10. Sorry, late dash with dial type heater control knobs (not sliders) its a 1993 VR6
  11. Hi guys, Just putting the interior of my corrado back together after replacing the heater matrix. Managed it without taking the dash out thanks to the guide in the knowledge base. The only thing left to do is put back in the heater controlls. I have glued the little tab that cracked off but the problem I now have is that the fan switch does not appear to be making the correct contacts and therefore the fan will not run. Ive searched the forum high and low and all I can find is the common problems with the resistor and butting the turn knobs on wrong. I havent got either of these problems, the turn switch is just not making the correct contacts! I have taken it apart and there is a little metal L shape which twists with the knob and contacts different connetions as it is move - I have therefore tried to reshape this but cannot get it to work. Phone GPC and a new controller is £155 plus VAT so thats not an attractive proposition. Therefore can you guys through any light on what shape I should be aiming to bend to L shaped section to (a photo of the L shaped bracket would be ideal) or recommend a car which has a similar set up that I might get a replacement from in a scrappy. Cheers
  12. Thanks for your response. Looks like I will have to line them up etc to see what happens. In a box in the garage somewhere I have a box with a couple of new carriers in that when I bought was told were for a mk3 vr6 but not sure how I would tell if they actually are, are there any codes or measurements I can use to identify them? Cheers
  13. I have some mk5 golf front calipers which came off a car with 288mm brakes, can I use these for a 288mm brake conversion on my VR and if so what other parts (carriers discs etc) might I need? Thanks for you help.
  14. Oh ok, wondering what they were as most of the coolant pipes etc have been replaced in the last 3 years and never come acorss them! What is there job and does it matter than they will not be in the matrix and whereas I had none before? Thanks
  15. Thanks for the reply. Yes its the plastic part which is cracked, the elbow seal was leaking and when i went to undo it CRACK! New rad it is then. Bugger! What are the matrix by pass valves? Do you just remove them from the engine bay when you replace the matrix? I assume all new matrix's from all sources are this upgraded style? Cheers
  16. Hey guys, As you look into the engine bay to the right hand side of the radiator there is a black plastic pipe which runs down the side of the radiator, the top hose mounts to this through a plastic elbow. Is the black plasic pipe part of the radiator or can it be seperated and replaced? Also are heater matrix's all the same for all corrado models. Cheers chaps

    Mk 5 Calipers

    Does anyone know?
  18. OK thanks. Is there a way of telling if one of the pulleys is faulty when I get the belt etc off? WIll it feel gavelly or rough when turned by hand?
  19. Hi, Im VR6 squeels when I give it some and take it to over 4000 revs. Now this does sound abit like a supercharger, but cant be good!! It sounds to me like a slightly loose aux drive belt so Im thinking of changing this, as have no record of when it was last changed. Do you think this is the likely cause, or is there something else which commonly causes this problem? Is there a way of checking the tensioner is not fubar'd? Also is it worth changing the tensioner bearing while im at it? Thanks guys

    Mk 5 Calipers

Hi guys. I have a pair of MK5 golf (actually seat leon - but they're the same) calipers that use 288mm discs. Could I use these calipers to fit 288mm or 312mm front discs to my VR6? I know that mk4 calipers can be used but not sure about mk5. Thanks in advance.
  21. Thanks for your help guys. I am 99.9% sure it was the switch, was all crusty sounding when it was switched and something in side was rattling when i took it out. Got a replacement at VW (£55!!! how?!) and all is well. Interestingly the new switch has a green back light whereas my old one was a yellowy orange - I like the green, matches the speedo lights.
  22. Help! Ive got a strange problem with the lights on my Corrado (1993 VR6). This has only happened this morning and I am worried I will be in flat battery city very soon!!! The light switch is in the off position however the side lights front and rear (with dull main bulbs) is on where the ignition is on. When the ignition is turned off the drivers side side-light front and rear remain on!! The indicator switch is not up / down (i.e. its not the parking lights that are on. Any ideas what the problem is? I suspect dodgy head light switch or some short somewhere. Anyone got any good ideas? Thanks
  23. Thanks for all your replys guys! It had a new tank about year and half ago cos the old one was all yellowed and I couldnt see through it, do u think maybe the new one isnt that good or something? Yes round town it can read upto about 100, think maybe ive got a low temp thermostat as mentioned by CazzaVR New aux pump with filed off plug edges it is then!
  24. Hi, Ive got 3 problems with my cooling system - K reg corrado VR6. Now I dont know if these are all related but here they are, im wonding if anyone could shed some light on possible solutions, thanks: 1. When starting the car when it has been stood for longer than a couple of hours once the car is started after about 30 seconds the coolant warning light comes on. If u stop and start the engine again, it sometimes goes away, other times I need to got and undo the cap from the coolant system then put it back on. Any idea what could be causing this? The water level is never below the min mark and it still does it. 2. When crusing on the motorway the water temp guage will often be low (around 70) so I replaced the thermostat thinking that would help as I understand a water temp of around 90 is desirable for maximum efficiency etc. Assuming the new thermostat is not a dud, what could be causing this overcooling, or is this really not a problem worth worrying about? 3. I get a slight drip of water coming from the aux water pump when the engine has been hot. This is not a very significant amount of water, a few drips really. Water appears to be coming from the base of the unit where it appears an elbow is screwed to the unit where one of the hoses attached. Now I went into VW today to enquire about new seals, however the parts man told me that it was a sealed unit and I would have to but the whole pump at £95 - is he right? As I say im not sure if all these problems are linked, perhaps those with more experience of the VR6 engine could let me know their thoughts. Many thanks.
