I had exactly the same trouble and yes - it was the ignition switch. Apparently theres a bit of plastic on it that breaks or something.

In my experience pods don't really do that much for the sound as such, over reinforcing the standard pod, unless you're doing sound off competitions? Although of course you can get larger speaker sizes in a custom pod. All my previous cars have had door pods of all descriptions, and this time with the Corrado I went for reinforcing the back of the standard pod to keep it all standard looking inside. I found the sound was identicle from using the same speakers (JL components) in custom pods on a previous car to putting them a reinforced standard pod. Its all about making sure the mount is as rigid/and solid as possible (of course fibre glass is more rigid than basic plastics!) Although custom pods do look the business! Thats just my opinion based on my own experiences though!

.... I especially like the Ferrari F40 install!

Unique car audio in Lightwater, Surrey. Not sure if this is massivley close to you but they did my brothers TT and it was incredible sounding (looked pretty good too) - its in their install gallery on the link below. Also had mates who have used them and they are the business. http://www.uniquecarsound.com/main.php?mode=html

I remember when I got my Corrado. I was 21 too (blimey thats 8 years ago now!!). Got quoted about £550 for the insurance, bought the car, went back to the same company to find they were then quoting £2000! What they didn't tell me was that it was a special offer for anyone returning to them who'd had insurance at some time before, except the offer had finished. Went to Adrian Flux and got it for about £800 which can't be bad for a 21 year old. Stuck with them ever since - they've always beaten anyone on price!

Yeah only one entrance, but the bumpy track is worth it. My car's pretty low but if you go really slow and pick your route carefully there's a way up. They've got my car at the moment, and I've godda say that the service and their skills are top notch.

Godda learn how to suck eggs some day! cheers Toad, I actually didn't know that cunning little bit of advice! Will be helpful for future searches! :thumbleft:
-
Thanks toad, although some of this I was already aware of - I guess I just need to know what everybody uses and what they rate for their VR engines. Thing is, and I know I'm possibly being a bit naive here, but the good old Halfords down the road has a little oil recommendation book attached to the shelf saying a 'manufacturer recommendation' of 15/40, but also has an 'ultimate protection' category which lists fully synthetic oils such as Mobil 1?
-
Roger and Dr Mat - I'm getting the feeling that the Mobil 1 that I've previously been using isn't a good idea? Is it too thin or something? I welcome your comments!
-
sorry dudes, tried the search option and it brought up about eleventy million pages-worth. Kinda needle in a haystack!
-
If you take a look at the car's manual, you'll find that 15w40 is the recommended oil in the first place. I would except my stupid labrador decided to eat it! Git!
-
Hi all, Just a quick one before lunch! Discovered that my oil needs topping up a little and am a little skint, so am trying to avoid the cost of a bottle of Mobil 1. I've got some 15W/40 oil in my garage but has anyone used this in a VR - what was the outcome. I'm wondering if its too thick possibly? I know its certainly not ideal but its gotta be better than having low oil surely? Cheers

Here's one mate. Would bid myself but I can't justify it when I'm putting a de-badged grille on. I only really want one for a time when/if I return the car back to standard. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volkswagen-Corrado-VR6-front-grill-badge_W0QQitemZ300038351636QQihZ020QQcategoryZ9889QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It was parked in a very nice hotel away and out of sight from the road etc in a courtyard, as well. Thought it would have been safe. I did wonder if it was another Rado owner replacing his nicked one, but also debated about the delinquent kids idea. Maybe some thick pikey thought he was copying the Beastie Boys?!?!
-
Why oh why do people have to nick things off othere peoples cars? Had my VR badge nicked off my front grille a couple of weeks ago. I was annoyed but thought it would be cheap to replace, and I've got a Zender debaged grille going on it in a couple of weeks anyway, so didn't think much of it. Now I discover that they're hard to find in good nick (loads of golf VR badges out there claiming to be Corrado ones) and a good one is £30!? Am I right in thinking these are rare? Or am I just not looking carefully enough? Thats another to the list of vandals/theives who have seen my car as a free for all. B@$tards! If only I could get my hands on the theiving oiks! :2gunfire: :agrue: :onfire:

...Or this - two VR engines both with a turbo. what was it 600BHP or something?..... Well you did say money no object!! http://www.dubsport.com/information.php?info_id=4

Cheers mate, was actually looking for some info like this. Same principle as the Alpine as with the Pioneer I guess (got a pioneer minidsic head unit and auto changer) One thing that I don't get though is that they recommend using a dock for the i-pod - wouldn't the i-pod go flying when cornering at speed? Yeah, don't really like hacking my car about so thought I should get a second surround to work on incase things go horribly wrong. Luckily Mikeswagen found one on ebay today which I won for £5... can't be bad! If all goes well then I'll post up some how to pics
-
cheers mate, appreciate the link. Got my eyes on one of these which means I can control all functions of the i-pod from my head unit, whilst charging it etc. http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/product_detail.jsp?product_id=12563&taxonomy_id=25-38 Would mean that I can sit the i-pod quite low only revealing the screen (like this very poor mock up pic that I've done!)

I was recommended to keep the tweeter as close to the woofer as possible in order to keep the sound coming from both to reach your ears at the same time. And although its hard to see in the picture, they're angled upwards towards you. I also copied certain install principals from my brothers old car - these guys seemed to do the same when installing his system : http://www.uniquecarsound.com/php/index.php?page=gallery&gid=16 Doesn't seem to effect the sound (they sound quite 'bright')- is this not a normal place to put them mate?
-
Will do. I'm hoping it will be relatively easy - I have a design in mind. Should happen next month after pay day so I'll get the pics up around then. Does anyone know of a good source for black leather (or possibly vynal if good enough quality)?
-
Gator surround!!... :salute: Cheers mikeswagon; Is just what I'm looking for - have just placed a bid! Looking to modify the coin holder area into a 5G i-pod console, and don't want to hack up my current one!
-
I've got one after a court summons for speeding. Would recommend for sure.
