Quote = "Is there anyway I can improve the standard pods ? Reinforce them in some way ?? has anyone had anyluck with doing this ?" I used the original door pods with a set of VR 5.25" JL's (using a Denon DCA-800 also). To combat the problem of the pod letting the sound of the speakers down I've reinforced the back of the pod with glass fibre/resin which (as it contracts when it sets) really adds strength and rigidity. Then, to helps things along further I used some matting (looks a bit like cotton wool) behind the woofer, which I ripped out from the inside of a pair of old home speakers. finally I dynamted the interior side of the door skin. It made quite a bit of difference, and was a load quicker than making up a couple of pods. I also kind of prefer to keep things as they were supposed to look. I've made quite a few speaker pods before and whilst they look good, I'm not that sure they improved sound that much compared to simply applying the same materials/principals to the standard pod.

Hi all, What's the universal name/part number of this interior part? I'm looking for a black one in good nick if anybody has one? Cheers

Trying to PM you mate, regarding your amps for sale - can't seem to send post it through to you? Definitely interested in your amps though!!
-
Cheers for the advice/tip off dude, looks like its a choice between an Exile amp http://www.exilecaraudio.com/2006/products/4channel/ or a Genesis amp http://www.genesiscaraudio.net/profile/... Anyone have any suggestions as to which is better, or are they much on the same par?! Cheers all! :D

I could well be interested in that profile 4 that you have up for sale if xbones declines, Tom!

Excellent! Thanks for your replies guys. Funnily enough, that's the second recommendation for that amp that I've had - although it was from someone who was trying to sell me one so I wasn't sure if he was recommending it on that basis. I will probably go for the Genesis as it seems to come highly commended, but out of curosity, how does it compare to the PG R8.0:4 Octane amp? Has anybody experience with one of these amps as I think I've found it quite cheap? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Phoenix-Gold-R8-0 ... dZViewItem Alternatively maybe one of these? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Phoenix-Gold-X100-4-Xenon-100W-4-CH-Car-Amplifier-UK_W0QQitemZ160000587810QQihZ006QQcategoryZ4950QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem Or is the Geneisis still the winner!? Cheers for your assistance!!

I've been running the same system for about 12 years now and my Amp has finally started to die. Trouble is, I'm now completely out of touch with regards to the ICE scene! I have a Pioneer Minidisc headunit and multi-changer, a set of JL 5.25" 2 way components up front, and a series one dual voice coil 2 Ohm JL 12W6 sub. This was being powered by a Denon DCA-800 amp. The amp was never really enough for the sub, but did pretty well to power it all for so long. It's finally dying though so now its time to replace it! I'm not sure what to buy next though. My budget isn't huge (£2-300), and ideally I'm looking for another multi-channel amp as I love their versitality. However I'm not totallay objectionable to a multi-amp set up. What amp would anyone suggest though, bearing in mind I really want to get the best out of my sub? I know that JL and PG amps are a firm favourite but what about any other makes? I'm considering the PG R8.0:4 Octane amp?... does anybody have an experience in running a W6 sub from one of these amps? (Shame it seems that PG seems to be suffering as a company - http://portland.bizjournals.com/portland/stories/2006/06/05/story6.html) Anyway, suggestions please!! Thanks

This may be a dumb question but I need to get underneath my car and want to use my trolley jack. I need to get underneath where the back box of the exhaust is (its knocking on my rear beam), so I was wondering where the best place to jack it up is? Obviously I can't use the regular jacking points as it will damage the sill. (Apparently its the the same exhaust that the car left the factory with 11 years ago, as its one peice and is installed before installing the rear beam?!?)

W*****s!!... I had the same done to mine, first in Brighton on the passenger door down to the metal, then 3 months later outside my parents house (ok area) at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon and the b******s did both sides from the headlights to the tailights, even making sure to do the petrol cap too! :onfire: ...Oh also had the bonnet scratched up by a horse, but thats another story! You have my sympathies, mate :( If only it was legal to electrify your bodywork... that'll learn 'em!

Cheers vrtrickster! Are the brakes on some golf VR's bigger than those on the C then, triggermyson?

Is anyone going to see the start of the Gumball 3000 tomorrow? I went last year, and the year before that in Paris; definitely worth the day out! http://www.gumball3000.com

My brother is looking to buy a smashed mk3 Golf VR as he wants the engine from it for his mk2. Anyway he's told me that I can rob as much as I want from the rest of the car for my Corrado VR - Does anyone know what parts can be taken from the golf VR to be used on the Corrado VR? I'm looking at literally anything and everything that I could rob for future problems that could arise. For example the starter motor on my C seems a bit temprimental and sometimes doesn't turn over if it happens to be in a bloody minded mood! - are the starter motors on the Golf/Corrado VR's the same? What about CV joints etc? Any hints on what would be of possible use to me from this smashed golf, would be gratefully received!

Bought some Dare wheels just over 12 months ago and they've already stared to Corrode!??! I know that they're not the most expensive things going, but I'm really not impressed! Does anyone know if all wheels can be refurbished, as I was told that as they have a polished rim that they can't??... Not sure how true that is?? They looked like this new: (see pic) Will post a pic of their current condition, if anybody thinks it would be useful to answer this question! Thanks all!

My brother has a Mk2 which he's intending to have converted to 4wd, whilst dropping in a turbo'd VR engine. He was half way through the project when the garage that was tackling the project ceased trading, so now he's in need of someone to carry on with the project, and was thinking of using these guys (http://www.strictlydubs.com/) Fortunately the mechanical side of things (everything except bodywork) have yet to be started (although all the parts are bought and ready to be put together) so its at a kind of nice starting point for whoever takes it on! Anyway any recommendations regarding this garage would be greatfully received! Cheers

Brighton > London (I know from looking at the previous owner on the V5) > Basingstoke
-
...the most non-biased person in this debate! Experience in both maunfacturer's and its official, VW is better than Ford! I do still like the mk1 etc. but its a different kettle of fish to a Corrado...
-
IHIG60 - sorry for asking a silly question but how the hell did you get such a cool pic of your car???
-
Cheers mate. I've heard nothing but praise for them, so I'm glad that I've hopefully found a garage that I can rely on for all future jobs too! Cheers for the recommendation.

Going down to see them tomorrow (depending on their work load) with my VR that has a slightly adnormal knocking from my transmission/CV area. Spoke to Tim on the phone, who seemed both professional and friendly. So far, a very good first impression from just speaking with them on the phone - will post the result! :thumb right:
-
What about Storm Developments (recommended on http://www.no-rice.com/ ) has anyone had any experiences with them?
-
Fair points! And I agree (was thinking The Phirm was the probably the best option anyway!). Got a kocking from the CV joint area when I come off the clutch! :nurse:
-
Cheers PhilK - Anyone had any experience with The Phirm, I heard they're prices are a little overated? Or is this just iddle gossip?
-
Does anybody know of a decent VW mechanic roughly in the Basingstoke area to do my CV joint on my VR? Does anybody have any recomendations as to who to avoid? Cheers all!
-
Not sure if it actually took part (can you imagine doing 3000 miles in those seats!!) as I saw it well after everybody had left London, but it sounded incredible! :thumb right:
