scene is always moving on, last year if you told me i'd be building a totally chromed car i wouldn't have believed you. Different trim, change the colour or even start a new project, who knows. Keep thinking about buying an early red 16V/G60 and restoring it to brand new condition or maybe getting an S3 and just doing a bit with it. Rims, suspension and brakes for example.

 , thats Rick, friend who built up my driveshafts for me. Thought he was joking when he said he would stick them on ebay.

does it have the early slider controls for the heater? Noticed its a K reg with the very early wheel design. -
ferrari's have 2 calipers on the rear wheel too. I'm thinking about 310mm disc's on the rear aswell. I'd best start talking to Hi-Spec now!! An off the shelf kit is a 10week wait.

I'd agree, don't worry about it. I've got alot of stick for my car, seems silly now that people are that bothered about what someone else chooses to do to their car. Took it hard at first because i wasn't expecting it, but when you step back and think about it doesn't matter because you do it for yourself. My car is actually held in much higher regard in the US than UK mainly because they have a much greater understanding of building showcars. People in the UK show scene will openly slate a car they are competeing against if its better than theirs. Number of times i've listened to someone pulling someone elses car apart, then had a look at theirs and thought aarrh, they know they've lost and trying to convince themselves otherwise. You know that i rate your car as the greatest VW showcar built so far, mainly because i'd like to get mine up to a similar standard and its and unbelievable amount of work. Fact is, you forget the comments when you look at your latest batch of chromed parts to be fitted and realise why to love it. -
most new cars are like that. Have a look at the new cars in a VW showroom. Its done on purpose so minor blemishes don't show as much on mass produced cars.
-
i'd like to see pics too. Bit like seeing how they get a ship in a bottle
-
yep, i'd never buy one as a second car. At 10+ years old theres alot of replacement parts needed. Suspension overhaul, chains bet thats nearly 3k and not even got started

quite like this IC, overall dimensions are 810x165x65mm. Possibly a little too wide? I'm starting to think i should be looking at fitting an aftermarket Rallye item if it uses the factory mounting points and just welding on the brackets from a Rallye cross member. Anyone got experience of fitting a rallye IC to a corrado?
-
here's mine. Few little details in that pic you may not have noticed before. Chrome seat belt mounting and leather binding on the join in the carpet in the rear foot well. Black seat belts are going in the bin for custom made ones soon.
-
I've got a new radiator cross member stripped to bare metal ready for chroming. However do those of you with front mounted intercoolers mount them to this part? Ideally i need to weld on any mounting brackets now and pick out an intercooler. Hopeing the G60 owners can help me on this one. Any advise on intercooler sizes that will fit behind the grille at the bottom of the front bumper would be very helpful. If you have pics please post them up and show off your handy work. TIA

looks perfect to me. Make sure you get pics of the chrome up, never tire of looking at chromed bits  -
Sounds as if you and I have the same agenda! Looks awesome, Lee. You are definetly in the zone dude!!![/quote:de10c] you've topped the chrome car, by some margin!! Thinking about running the brakelines inside the trailing arms of the rear beam. What do you think? Nearly smoothed one side of the beam now. Pics soon. .....And in other news, my cars going to appear on a range of t-shirts. I'll post a link to the shop once there done.
-
My advice is stick to Recaro if your changing the factory seats.
-
Agreed. Needs to body colour but if you like it, then who are we to judge.
-
Yeah the Chrome-a-zone  Would love to see your car too, seems to be an update nearly everyday and you say you have more ideas?? Surely you got to run out soon? Keep it up it's a damn good read... 8)[/quote:dbd78] May have a long wait. I'm considering doing one show this year, MIVW which is unfortuately in Belgium. Almost definately won't show it in the UK this year, back in 2007. I'll never run out of idea's only the money to realise them!!
-
Yep, audi door handles look great but only if there done properly. Most most good bodyshops like to leave the car in primer for a couple of weeks anyway to see if anything sinks so worth doing it this way if you need the car. Off the top of my head, Barry Roberts, Premier, Paynes, Impact and Reflex are the most noted for a quality job.
-
me neither. Never seen a car with everything chrome in the metal, nearest so far would be Simons Mk2. Imagine he'll be chroming his drive shafts subframes etc for next year too. Still got loads of tricks up my sleeve tho'. Had more ideas for the rear beam. TMT will love it, really in the zone at the min  Bought the cross members from GPC, i'll get the part number tomorrow as its at work. Not going to stealth, next year definately be there if my car will go on the roller's with only 48mm of clearance.

Biggerbigben - Golf sold.. another new project!

looking nice, did you go with body colour or Iris blue in the end? -
Radiator cross member, rear beam, steering knuckles, steering rack (that will test me), crank pulley, brakelines, all the nuts & bolts then i'll start struggling for stuff. Got the pipe work for the turbo and intercooler to look forward to then!!
