This is something I've been thinking about doing myself. I've not had anything apart yet to see what's inside to know what's involved. Maybe you can shed some light (pardon the unintended pun!). Does the green illumination come from green LED's or white LED's through green tinted dials? I'm hoping it's just green LED's so I can swap for blue. Also, is this the same rule for the MFA? Is this just a matter of swapping green LED's for red LED's to change the illumination? You can probably tell from my choice already, I'm after blue glowing dials and red glowing displays![/quote:f677f] Check out my folder in the members gallery, it's turned into a bit of a guide and Kev posted an excellent linkin there to a site with a step by step guide on how to do it.

Nice one, which model?
-
Has anyone converted theirs to red? Just pulled mine apart, the outer ones are dead easy but the centre one uses a green light pipe, not sure how to get around that one. Ideas?
-
Just got a new Alpine Headunit, thinking about going the hard disk route rather than 6CD changer. Is it better to go with an Alpine HD or can anyone suggest a better alternative?
-
Cool, how do i do that?
-
Not sure, i wasn't keeping track of time and didn't do it all in one go. I'd guess the whole process would take 4-5hrs. I can do it much quicker now i've sussed it.

Basically most trimmers have leather books (like the wallpaper ones, but will leather samples) from all the major suppliers. Its then a case of picking out the one that matches. Your interior will have faded so don't expect perfection with the match, but only you will notice!! Leather is thinned by the supplier, they can be thinned more by special order (ie. book early). The grain is a difficult one, different suppliers press in different grains.

New pics below, decided to stay with red ilumination until i can get proper blue filters made as the film isn't diffused like the red filters i made. Big improvement i think. :D

Jobs a good un'. Scared myself a little by putting one of the LCD's together upside so it showed rubbish when i powered it up. Swopped it round, result! Red digits. Any one else get knightrider flashbacks when they first switched to red digits :?:  I'll post a pic once i've change the dials backlighting to blue. Cheers for the help guys!!

Did you use the cleaning fluid or just flip over the polarising filter an re-assemble? I'm going to use two layers of film as my printed pvc is at work and i'm on holiday :D
-
Whats the process for reversing the lcd to a negative?
-
I can make them, but only in red. For blue i had to use disco film which isn't as good as i had to use two layers.
-
Made them myself. Easy, just time consuming and fiddly. So you used a quality street wrapper then  I prefer the hazelnut caramel filter myself lol[/quote:95f7c] Please, i had 200mic textured PVC screen printed with translucent red ink. I don't bodge things.

When you say reversed LCDs, you mean with the lights off the screens are black with white numerials?
-
Cool, teach me!!!

they should be the same from the CAT back if its a magnex

The switches are LED's. The dials are coloured filters with standard bulbs. Its growing on me, probably a big change after stareing at green ones for 5years.
-
Just refitted my dials now red with blue LCD as perTouareg. Not sure i like it. Opinions?
-
Makes you proud doesn't it. A UK car as good or better than the germans. Respect A20 LEE. Cheers, glad you like it.

Because it modernises the whole look of the dash, looks damn cool, never been done before and fit and finish is miles better than it would have been if i just swopped it. Just watch how many copy it, i've heard of a Mk3 having it done.
-
Cool, thought the fuse only covers illumination? not the miles/clock?
-
Do you have to disconnect the battery to remove them?. Usually i do but going to be pissing about most of today deciding between blue or red illumination, so they will be in and out quite a few times.

I spent about an hour speaking with Elliot at E38 and he is an enthusiast and i've noticed a great deal more coverage of shows since he took over (old ed' was a cosworth man i hear). PVW aren't anti-corrado either, there absolutely crying out for more to feature but feature worthy cars are few and far between. That said theres no excuse for not putting Sasha's VR6T on the calender.
