Thing is we've had time to think about it in a safe situation, whereas he was actually there with it happening! What I'm not sure about is how he drove at stupid speeds for so long, surely there would've been a long or sharpish bend somewhere..

Depends on the value of the car really. To get a head fixed can cost around 300-400, it is possible to do yourself but it's probably a pain to do.

Yea if you can't seem to eliminate the problem with the basics changed, then go for a compression test to see if your head has blown..
