  1. Well funny you should mention corrosion, it was a bit squeaky before it happened- for the last month or so. Could the pot hole just have made it finally give way?
  2. Right, im totally hacked off. I pay my road tax, we all do, yet we still find pot holes in our roads. Driving round Leeds city centre this eve, to pick the missus up and BANG, drove right over a pot hole. It wasnt that big but bit it has done some damage to the rear N/S shock . The top of the strut has been forced up, and now protrudes out of the top in the boot (sorry for a bad explanation, see pics). Now is shocker now broken and how much is it for a new OEM shocker? though i am wanting to get some konis i really cant afford them at the mo, would a good second hand one be ok for now? Cheers guys.
  3. tbh i think coppers do scoure the forums for anyone admitting things they shouldnt on a forum. Look at the thread that was posted on this forum regarding another forum, where the lad had admitted speeding and not wearing a seat belt when he wrote off his skyline. He ended up getting questioned by the cops- so the forum said and going by the news clips on there. Not suggesting for one minute police men/women on here would go informing of meets, not a chance. As Andi said, there are still human beings in the police force, however we all must have been pulled by "Mr n0b head" policeman at some point, its down to the individual copper what he/she would do, if they turned up at a meet. In 6-7 years of driving ive been pulled over 3 times, twice just because it was late at night and i stuck out like a sore thumb (spot checks). But the guy/s were cool, everything was in order, had a quick chat with them and off i went. The point im trying to make is their not all a*seholes and are simply doing their jobs, not power crazed gimps who will try get you for anything they can, possibly driven by damn targets. AND if we were queuing to get into an event, it would not only be pathetic of them to arrest us, but a complete waste of police time and resources for them to do so.
  4. That law is as daft as... I suppose just because its law, doesnt mean the coppers will necessarily arrest you on the spot. They may move you on, albeit the meet may just move to another location. Or they could see it as no one is causing trouble or a nuisance so let them be. At least lets hope. To put it in perspective- The 24 year old lad who raped a 14 year old girl in a park recently, got 2 years and will be out in months. Yet for meeting, having a chat and generally having a good time without causing trouble, you'll get the same jail term sentence. Its B0ll0cks! This country is getting worse.
  5. Did you guys go hunting for those puddles?
  6. No, the handbrake mech... The cables attach to a lever on the rear calipers, the spindle of which corrodes and jams the handbrake. If you remove the return spring (be V careful, and it's a mare to refit) you can pull the handbrake mech spindle out of the caliper very slightly, then wire brush it, and lube it up to stop rust forming in the future. The handbrake adjustment is at the bottom of the handbrake lever. to access it, remove the handbrake handle, and both surrounds, then unscrew the rear centre bolster, loosen the 4 plastic plugs either side of the transmission tunnel, and the centre peice will lift out. use 2x 8 or 10mm spanners to adjust the cables accordingly. Tom. Cheers Tom, ill bear that in mind when i come to fit the new seal. Gaz
  7. Should i open the "bump stripes are good" can of worms  (j/k) Could you use some T-Cut on the decals, could POSSIBLY help?
  8. Yeah, mine is one from GSF too, they are prone to failure. Best get a VAG one ideally. I just wanted to get it fixed quick without having to order the part. Let us know about sensor mate. Gaz
  9. Hello mate, Before you try anything else change the ignition switch. Mine refused to start, although it was turning over but not attempting to fire up. Had RAC round, they said Crank position sensor- changed, no joy. Had them round again, they said it was the immobiliser- though i didnt check this as it was easier to try other things first. Ive learnt not to necessarily take what the recovery bloke says as being the case- i even said to the bloke after asking on the forum, if it could be the ignition switch and he said "no definately not" (BULLSH!T). I changed the ignition switch and viola fired up first time. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=56335&hilit=ignition+switch Failing the ign switch, which i doubt, ive got a crankshaft position sensor you can try- the old one, which does work.
  10. Aye, great shame about the bloke in hull, im sure more could have been done. Goes to show how bad it is in places. Although this eve, the sun was just peaking through the cloud and was looking to improve. According to the BBC 5 day forecast its sunny on wednesday, i wont hold my breath for that (no pun intended :( )
  11. So, was allowed to leave work early due to the amount of rain and flooding we're getting. Toddled home at a 20mph pace due to the large amounts of water on the roads- some places the full width of the road and paths are submerged in water. People having to queue up to allow oncoming traffic to use the middle of the road to get through the puddle (lake) and vise versa. Steam pouring from the car although going slower than snails pace through the water, at some points i thought id just stall due to the water possibly getting on the alternator or some other electrics :| Im just glad my rado isnt lowered like alot of you guys- think it'd be a good idea to leave the lowered rados at home til the flooding subsides. Luckily i got home safe and sound. Is it the same where you are?
  12. Cheers guys, The handbrake mechanism, im guess youre meaning the handbrake adjustment? Where is it on the rado?
  13. yup. Thats ok then. Like i said in the original post it may or may not be a problem. Glad to hear it seems it isnt. Cheers chaps! Gaz
  14. While we're on the subject of calipers... Can the rubber seal for the caliper pistons be bought seperately or is it a full caliper jobby? Mine is torn and is leaking fluid. Sorry to jack your thread Jim. Gaz
  15. Yeah, like ive said if i was to make the pedal so it stays at the same level its not comfortable anyway. Going by the answers i have got its normal for the pedal to be slightly lower.
  16. BUMP BUMP... anyone else give me anything else?
  17. Neil, where abouts do you go fishing mate?
  18. That's it. There's going to be a balance between giving it some boot and looking after it i.e. only giving it some right foot when all the temps are up and keeping it off the redline.
  19. The revs stay the same tbh, so I dont think its a major problem, or if its a problem at all. But not really any closer to finding out either way.
  20. They will get a shock if they check the oil level when the engine is still hot. The difference between checking it cold in the morning and just after stopping the engine can be as much as half a litre. The oil takes AAAAAGES to drip back into the sump on the VR.....just so you know ;-) I normally leave it a good 15 mins, with the oil filler cap off and (obv) dipstick out. Would you consider this long enough for all the oil to drop down?
  21. Ok, this may be a problem- something a few of you guys have had a problem with too. OR it could be that its suppose to be like that. Here goes.... Ive noticed the throttle pedal is about 1 1/2 inch lower then the brake and the clutch pedals. But if i put my foot under it and pull it up, it pops to the same level as the other pedals. So it doesnt just raise, it actually pops to the same position as the others. Is this normal or is there a problem that needs fixing? Now, if i make it level to the other pedals, but then press the throttle and let go, it will stay lower then the other two. The pedal being at the same level is not a comfortable driving position anyway, so im hoping its ok being a tad lower. Anyone else had this problem, if it is one? Sorry if this is a cr@p explanation, only way i can describe it. Ill get back to any replies asap as the internet connection is being p00p and Virgin media are being cr@p at fixing the problem. Cheers Gaz
  22. PHEEEW! I noticed this when i was changing the front pads. One side was ok, on the other side however the disc was free. Im glad im not the only one.
  23. Yep, again mine consumes around a litre ever 400 miles or so. I got quoted £2k for a new engine from VAG, garage that got me quote didnt say anything about an exchange basis though. I also got quoted around 1600 for a top end rebuild. So imo the new engine seems the better option.
  24. Half that, at 600kg (minium). Its a piece of plastic with 800 BHP :D Fooking fast! But.......... how about this. http://paultan.org/archives/2007/05/16/ ... e-streets/
