...will thems wheels fit my VR?
-
Just bought some 16v Golf calipers and carriers off'a ebay, £40. Do ineed the hose's aswell or will the corrado ones be ok?
-
but in any case, did you specfically want new calipers? if not, then: £80 or less per pair 2nd hand. £50 for calipers and carriers 2nd hand - some come up almost every week on here/ed38/vr6oc. also send bigpantsbaby a pm as he has them all pretty often. shouldn't take you long to find all the bits. New calipers would be nice but at that price im not so sure. Used ones seem to be happy favourite. Im watching some on ebay at the mo, as well as looking at the sites you mention. Are all mk4 Golf rear calipers the same or is there a specific year/model that i should be looking for?
-
Right, had an expensive day today. Popped up the dealers for some shiny new brake bits. Two rear standard corrado discs - £36.47 Box of rear mk4 Golf brake pads - £24.30 Six spark plugs - £44.06 oil filter - £10.76 Total - £131.69. Also ordered new 288mm front discs at £42.41+vat each. Priced the wheel bearings for the rear and they were £24 each side so i'll try and get some good patten ones. Any ideas where from? Still need mk4 calipers for the rear, vw wanted £89+vat each so that's not going to happen. Also priced up the front calipers and carriers, £140 for the carrier and the same for the caliper, plus vat, times two!!!!!!

Excellent! Thats just what i was after. :notworthy: If you can let me have the part numbers that would be great. Thanks very much for your help and once i have all the parts to hand i'll keep you informed of my progress. Cheers.

Thanks for the offer but i would like to learn more about the 288mm conversion. I understand what your saying about needing a bigger caliper/pad,but im guessing this seems to be a common conversion whats the answer? Do you use the Golf caliper? Also after a nose round ebay for bits i see that the 288 disc is wider than the 280 disc by about 3mm, is this a problem?
-
So your saying that the discs on the front of a Golf VR are bigger than those on the Corrado? Are these a straight forward swap and can i keep the standard calipers?
-
The plan is to clean/replace the discs, pads and calipers on my stock as a rock 95 VR6. I was intending to use standard replacement parts from the VW dealer but having read some of the posts on here im quite keen on upgrading everything for some possible track use. My plan was to use standard front discs and calipers with some red (or maybe green) EBC pads but is it possiblle to fit larger diameter discs without any hassle, a straight forward take the old one off, bolt a bigger one on, and keep the standard calipers and 15" wheels? At the rear i was planning on standard discs but with MK4 calipers as the standard ones have siezed long ago, using standard vw pads. So what do you think? Any advice would be great. :D

Cheers guys, thanks for your help. :D

What grade oil should i be putting in me VR6?

Why do i need to use the goodridge kit? What sort of money do you think that we are looking at? Standard discs, mk4 calipers, goodridge hoses, set of pads. Can i get all these from the same supplier?
-
Bloody hell! I can't believe that this is so common. What causes it? Did VW know about this and if so did they ever have a recall to fix it? Defo going to sort the brakes out starting with the rear calipers. Whats the crack with these mk4 calipers, do they bolt straight on?

So i had just had me new tyres fitted on to me refurbed Speed lines and i thought i would take it for a quick blast and pop in and see me mate at his garage. When i got there his car park was full so i parked in front of the parked cars and wondered in for a chat, taking a momment to glance over me sholder to check out be new rims and tyres. :luvlove: His Car park is on a bit of a slope, well a bit more than a slope but not quite a hill, and after a brief chat we walked across the garage past his open doors to admire my wheels and then on to the office for a brew. We had been in there no more than two minutes when this bloke huffs and puffs in through the door and starts shouting "whos is the Golf". Well i held back my outburst of "It's a Corrado" :bad-words: just long enough for him to tell me how he watched it roll backwards out the car park across the road and into the opposite companys carpark! Shite! :pale: When i got to the car the hand brake was still on but you could just about push the car forward. Luckerly it didn't hit another car or anybody. So after me new tyres and wheel refurb brakes are now at the top of the list of jobs to do.

Was that you? It was very dark...

Thanks for that Dinkus. Any infomation on decent tyres of this size. Just given the C a spring clean today and noticed the rubbers getting a bit low all round. Plan is to get hold of some old Speedlines get them refurbed and shoe them with some decent rubber. Any suggestions?
-
Whats the correct tyre size i should be running on my 1994 VR6? It's still on the standard 15" Speedline wheels.
-
Would it be possible to be added to the list please? Im after the 4x4 plug in and play option. No rush.

Hello, sorry for the late update. I replaced the relay 109 (ecu, i think) and have never looked back. I went to the local stealers and they had one on the shelf for the tidy sum of £13.17. Passed the MOT today aswell, Woo Hoo :D

Right, this is getting more frequent and more annoying. Yesterday i did'nt even get to the end of our road before it cut out and refused to start for five minutes, just as the neighbours were coming home from work and had to form an orderley que up the single track road until my car fired back in to life. This morning i reversed it off the drive to get the camper out and it stalled again and refused to start. It turns over but won't fire and then suddenly jumps back into life as though theres nothing wrong, and im fairly sure i can hear it laughing at me.... So i removed relay 109 and took the cover off, would i be able to see if there was anything wrong with it? It all looked quite shiny and clean. I've cleaned the spades before refitting so we'll see how we get on. I think i'll replace this before i get to grips with the ISV cleaning. It's an ABV engine with only 52000 miles, should these things be failing at this sort of mileage?
-
...are they the same across the years and all models of Corrado, as i need a n/s/f for my 94 vr.
-
Would a fault code only show up when the fault was actualy happening? I think the engine code is ABV. Is a crank speed sensor a common problem on these engines?
-
It's done this five times now and it's bloody anoying. Im driving along and then suddenly the engine just dies and you have to look sharpish for some where to ditch it quickly. Now, i have noticed that it only seems to do it when its's raining or been raining, and it only seems to happen in the first five or ten min's. Also, this has only started to happen after i had a 20,000 mile service last month. Any ideas?
-
who he? :) Thanks for the advice, checked them, both ok.
-
It's a VR6 and it's done 51500k. Strange thing happened on the way to work this morning. As i turned into a tight right hand bend the engine just died! Now i've had this car since March and i always take the same route to work and it has never done that before and to be honest it was a bit of a shock. I turned everything off, lights, radio etc and turned the key and it started first time. Just got home in it and it never missed a beat. Very odd, hopefully it was nothing serious and maybe somthing to do with the rain.

Managed to aquaplane my way up north to Awsome in Irlam, Manchester, for a 20,000 mile service today. While it was there they also changed the coolant and brake fluid, flushed the engine and replaced the wiper blades for the trip home in monsoon like conditions. Top job, the car felt alot better on the way home plus it made me feel more confident about the engine as the last service that the previous owner had was done by a mobile mechanic. Crazy realy because it had full vag history up until then but there you go. Thank you Awsome. :D Now to sort out the body work.........
