Just phoned up VAG to see the price of two items. An oil temp sender, and the rad fan switch (3 pronged one). The sender was £21+ VAT, and the was about £30+VAT Seemed a bit much to me!! Are they looking at the wrong parts, or are these the reason we call em stealers?!

PMSL at these replies. Cheers guys!

PMSL. Things melting and falling off arent unexpected... Its stil stranded, will look later.

 is this still car chat...? My escort died last night. All the lights were still working, radio, interior lights, locking etc, but it just kept dying, the battery light would come on and that was it. Any ideas? Hoping its something simple like battery or alt. Many thanks for your kind, escort loving advice, in advance. Nick

So is it finished now then...........?!

Pickard1 :notworthy: Thank you very, very much. You are a legend. If the fan doesnt start, what does that mean?
-
Sweet!! Twas a bit low (like 10mm under minimum when i checked earlier, but obviously didnt top up whilst hot!) I know that one...its why i replaced my engine in the first place!!
-
I have replaced the blue temp sender, and also the black one next to it, as i didnt know what it did. Still dont actually (is it oil temp?). They were replaced with ones from GSF, could it really be reading that inaccurate? Drove in this morning, after not driving it for a few days, and although the readings on the gauge and the MFA didnt get 'too hot' i had a warning light come in the left hand corner of the dash. Im assuming this was water temp warning, as it has the same symbol as the gauge above it. No beeping as i was used to. How would i 'short' the fan into working? Would somebody be kind enough to take a pic illustrating how, as im useless with wiring, and even if its impossible to wire wrong, ill still do it wrong. :x
-
Well, what does the gauge on the far left of the G60 dash measure? Water or Oil temp? Whatever it is, its that thats getting hot. I put in some cheap Halfords oil, just to get her going, before draining and replacing with Synta Silver stuff direct from VAG. Rad fan thermoswitch - where am i likely to find this? on the rad im assuming, but where? Its not a brand new engine no, done a few miles, but less than my car, and it works, so thats the important bit!

Got my engine in, and all up and running, but ive had a few problems with temperature. My oil temp gauge didnt work with the old engine, was replaced, and solved the problem. Its fine for say 15 minutes, but then will start to creep up towards the 110 mark which is too hot!! Im checking my coolant everyday, and its okay, not using buckets of the stuff or anything, but i havent dared drive it for longer than 30 minutes incase she blows!! Ive replaced the rad temp sensor aswell, as i dont think the fan is cutting in, but not sure thats worked, so could it be the problem, or do you think its something else? Cars a '91 G60. Cheers, Nick

Happy birthday dude, but youll be moved i suspect! -
What happens if it starts to rain, half way through a process? Does this mess the 'levels' of wax/polish/, or does it not effect it?

Nice car Jay. Hope you have fun making it yours, and i cant wait to see some progress. Nick -
Thats a good point. My old engine was fitted with a pipercross kit, but my new one has the standard airbox. Im going to remove the CC this weekend with any luck. Thanks for your replys, i think i understand now. Nick

I still have the boost return path. I havent removed it or deleted it using the mod. But im still whistle-less. So there is something wrong!!
-
No i dont have the return deleted. So i shouldnt have a whistle...?
-
Err...just used the search. Is my charger even supposed to whistle?! Could explain why the old engine blew up if not. It used to occur when i was revving high, and then changing gear.
-
Had my car up and running for a day or so now, and I have noticed that i seem to have lost the whistle from my supercharger. (91 G60) What could be the cause of this? And is a serious problem, as i dont want to destroy the engine or the charger!! Nick

I think that pic is the best ive seen at accentuating (sp) the corrado's curves. Has better lines than my misses. Cars looking good too. Thats the first pic ive actually seen of a whole wheel on your car, since theyve been painted. Always wondered what it looked like!! Id have been tempted for a polished lip i think. -
What sort of temp should i expect my 91 G60 to sit at once warm? Its been so long since it worked, ive forgotten. Seems to sit half way between 70 and 110, which im assuming is right, but want to double check, incase i cook everything!!! Nick
