  1. Hi What's the difference between Continental Premium Contact and Continental Sport Contact Tyres - which is best (i.e which supplies the best grip in dry and wet)? Cheers Matt
  2. Cheers guys. Vince recommended a custom remap for cams. I already have his rechip so a remap will be a lot easier.
  3. Hi Trying to get all the costs involved for fitting shrick 268 cams to my golf vr6. I know the approx cost of the cams themselves, the followers, and also the necessary remap. Just need to know the approx cost Stealth would charge to fit them? I have emailed them but if anyone knows please let me know. Thanks for any help and info.
  4. Will Brentacare replace the mods with the same mods or will they replace them with standard parts? Elephant will only replace standard mods with standard parts in the event of an accident. Are Brentacare easy to get hold off...i.e open weekdays till late and saturdays? Do they allow actual engine mods like cams or extreme things like a supercharger? Thanks for all your replies. Stan...love your car mate...read an issue about it in one of the main vw mags recently. Was it relatively straight forward putting a 24v v6 in to replace the old 12v? Were there huge changes required with the exhaust or mounts or was it relatively simple to swap?
  5. Hi Elephant have told me they don't allow any kind of computer chips or remaps. So now looking to cancel and go with another company that does insure with this mod. I've heard of HIC... are they any good? How good is their customer service and how cheap are they? Do they allow many mods? Are their telephone lines open till late most of the week? Cheers for any help Matt
  6. Cheers guys for your help. I tend to use Tescos 99 ron all the time as there's a local one near me. The new BMC makes my car sound like an aston martin when I floor it above 3000 revs...all the way to the red line. But it can be equally quiet when I drive normally...just the way I like it. I haven't fitted the cold air feed and don't think I will ...just love the noise it makes.
  7. Hi Just got car back from Stealth after a re-chip and it has really made a difference to the drivability of the car...torque is available straight away. My question is when Stealth did the re-chip I had it full up with Tesco's 99 ron fuel... does this mean it was remapped/rechipped just for this 99 ron fuel or will Stealth have given it allowances so I can use at least a lower ron fuel... like 97 or 98? Had no choice but to fill it up on 97 ron fuel on the way home. Thanks for any info. I will confirm with Vince tomorrow about this. Cheers Matt ps. If any of you are with Elephant insurance you'll have to change as they don't insure cars with any kind of computer chips. I'm changing in July when mine expires.

    Induction

Thanks guys. Anyone else here run their BMC without the cold air feed...how did your car feel compared to standard? Did it still rev much smoother?

    Induction

How many of you run your BMC with or without the cold air feed? Does it make a big difference to performance and noise-wise?
  10. Hi Just getting a BMC fitted at Stealth amongst other things, to my golf vr6, and they mentioned it doesn't really make any difference whether the cold air feed is attached or not. How many of you here have a BMC and have run it with and also without the cold air feed... did you notice any difference in driving performance at all? How many of you here run it without the cold air feed... how is the performance compared to standard? Is it noisier without the cold air feed? Thanks Matt
  11. Was thinking that. Value for money wise the sc is far better. What type of supercharger is it and is that price fitted? How much would it cost for a garage to fit it? I know a remap is required too. I may be getting a rechip at stealth this week actually to sort out some pinking issues. Would anything else be required and will this supercharger fit a golf vr 2.8 or is it for both corrado or golf? I'll go and take a look at the group buy.
  12. Thanks would they fit a golf 2.8 vr6 or are they only for the corrado 2.9 vr6? Also how much is the going rate for a good garage to fit a flowed head to a vr?
  13. Stealth reckon it's the bottom chain that is out causing the problems higher up preventing the cams lining up properly. Should find out tues morning what is causing this when stealth remove my gearbox.
  14. Hi 6 months ago I had a rolling road session at Stealth and my 1997 odb2 golf vr6 made 192bhp. It's done 80k miles. About a month ago I had my timing chains done by another good reputable garage. Yesterday I had a rolling road session with Stealth. I found my car was making peak 155bhp and had slight pinking/pinging issues high up the rev range. I was told anything under a '5' is normal. However Stealth's computer showed mine was reaching 8 or 9 meaning it was pinking. I asked if pinking would cause any damage to my bottom end they said no, only a problem if it continued long term. And to be honest I haven't taken it much above 3000 revs since I had my chains done a month ago. Stealth said my lack of power and pinking was due to the valve/cam timing. They did their best yesterday to line up the cams but one of them refused to line up not matter what was done and which markers were used... they put in new cams in case one of the cams was slightly twisted but made no difference... So they assumed it will probably be due to the bottom chain. They said even if it was a few mm out it would cause this problem. Could anything else potentially cause this situation?? They are taking the gearbox out to look at it all this week and hopefully get it all right again and making good power. It is certainly something mechanical as VAG COM showed up no faults at all. I'm hoping this is the cause. Does this seem likely or what else could possibly cause this? Anyone else had issues similar to this? What turned out to be the cause? I'm hoping it's nothing else more serious that could be causing this. And will the slight pinking be very damaging in the month since I had my chains done or is it nothing to worry about as long as its sorted now? Thanks for any help and information. Matt
  15. Anyone? Is a vernier pulley recommended too? What does the vernier pulley do exactly? Does it get more power from the cams or is it used to ensure the timing is spot on?
  16. Is it unwise to get the rear polybushes done... and just leave them standard? Will fitting polybushes to the front wishbone however improve the "communication" from the steering to the driver? I feel as standard the steering is a bit "vague" and mushy! My car is a golf vr6 by the way so may be slightly different to the rado... just wondered if any had experience of these products?
  17. Hi Does anyone have Shrick 268 cams (just on their own not with the Shrick inlet manifold) fitted to their corrado vr6? I currently have a cat back exhaust, high flow cat and 6 branch exhaust manfold and soon to be fitted BMC. On my last rolling road session it measured 191-195bhp and that was before the 6 branch and BMC fitted...so I'm assuming my car is around the 200bhp mark with all of these mods...maybe bit more or less. I'm interested to know whether fitting Shrick 268 cams (just the cams not the manifold too) will provide a worthwhile hike in torque and power from 3000 revs onwards? Anyone know roughly how much they are? Are they ~£500? I can get them fitted for free as I'm having other work done at the same time...Stealth are doing the work. If I do go ahead with the shrick cams I will also get a full stealth remap (£300+vat). All in all around the £800 mark plus vat so pretty expensive !dodge ... therefore I need to know are the shrick cams (on their own with my current mods) worth it? Will I see a big improvement in power? I'm keeping the car for quite a few years to come and it has currently done about 80k miles. What kind of rolling road figures have any of you had with fitting 268 cams with just an exhaust and induction kit? Cheers Matt
  18. Sounds like this is a company to avoid then? Any other comments?
  19. Hi Anyone used NS Racing recently (i.e end of Jan onwards)? I have tried ringing them and just keep getting their answer phone saying they will be away over christmas until beginning of Jan. Wanted to find out about their second hand shricks. Are NS Racing a good and very reliable company?! Cheers for any help. Matt
  20. Hi I'm getting a 35-40mm suspension kit soon. However I have a couple of questions first...During the settling in period with new suspension I've heard the suspension can lower slightly after its settled... is this true?? If so how much roughly (on say a 35-40mm suspension kit)...another 5mm at the very most I guess? During the time the suspension is allowed to "settle" how should I drive the car? Do I have to drive quite carefully, no sharp corners, take it slowly over bumpy roads, all the time while the new suspension "settles", or do I just drive it normally? How long does the settling period normally take, or how many miles approx? Cheers guys for any help :D
  21. Hi I know when fitting lowered suspension the 4 wheel alignment has to be done. However... will I need the camber adjusted as well with a 35 or 40mm drop? I know you do with big drops but is it necessary on a 35 or 40mm drop? Thanks.
  22. Hi What are lowering caps? If "lowering caps" are fitted to my front springs to bring it down an extra cm will this adversely affect the ride? Are lowering caps a bad idea or good? Are lowering caps easy to install at the same time as having a suspension kit fitted? Do they last as long as the suspension kit itself? Any makes to go for or avoid? Thanks for any help and information. Cheers Matt
  23. Thanks. From what I've read they seem to be one of the best in the world and used by top touring cars. I was a bit puzzled that if they use gas dampers they must be spax. Spax are budget dampers which was why I would be so surprised if KW did actually use them :?: Would you say the KW suspension kit is better quality than an equivalent Weitec kit? Thanks for your help Darren. Matt
  24. Who told you that ? I think you may of been misinformed there. Hi Darren The Phirm told me if they are using gas dampers they must be Spax. Apparently KW used to have Koni (oil based) dampers but not any more.
  25. The Koni/H&R combo is very high quality but only drops the car around 25-30mm. Koni suspension kits only drop the car 25-30mm. Gmax tends to drop it a margin more at 35mm. The Phirm really rate them and they use high quality gas shocks as opposed to the traditional oil based ones which don't last as long. Unless you go the coilover route there aren't many kits at all that drop the car more than 35mm... which is a pity. I'm lookin to lower my golf vr which is turning into quite a bit of hassle finding the right kit (believe me I've done a lot of searching but haven't found the info I need regarding the different makes of suspension kits that are out there) ...prob is my car sits a bout 2cms higher at the front, so a 35mm drop all round on my car will make the back look good but still leave a bit of a gap at the front. So I'm looking for a good kit or combo too to solve my problem...ideally 35mm at the back and 45mm at the front. No such kit exists for the golf vr which is a hassle. Very few people have pics of a golf vr lowered on 30 or 35mm so I'm in the same position as you...although my golf is different to the corrado. From what I've seen a drop as small as 30mm seems to make much more of a difference on a Corrado, making it look significantly lower, than compared to a golf vr. I was looking into a KW suspension kit but apparently that uses gas shocks made by Spax which surprised me! Spax aren't that brilliant. I haven't been able to find out any other info about KW sus kits unfortunately or any good quality alternatives. I may end up going with the Gmax and see if its possible to get 45mm lowering springs on the front...not sure if this will be possible though. Give Darren at G-Werkes a PM. He's really helpful when it comes to suspension and can supply products at very low cost. Good luck with your search mate.
