  1. It's not that noticable at all ..only occasionally when I'm on the biting point in traffic. Occasionally it vibrates very slightly in reverse gear. I had the front mount and gearbox mount changed. I've not had the rear mount done. I was a bit worried it could be related to my fuelling. But I assume it may be more likely due to the engine mounts. What does anyone else think? Thanks for any help.
  2. Not sure - they were for a Golf VR6 - approx £90 for the front I think and £125 for the gearbox one, both Vibratechnic. I would assume the most standard/common ones.
  3. Hi I've just had 2 new uprated Vibratechnic engine mounts (gearbox and front mounts) fitted to my Golf VR6. I only picked my car up yesterday. I find my car tends to judder a tiny bit when I am stationary or on the 'biting point' when in traffic or when I reverse. Tends to happen all the time whether the car is cold or at operating temp. Is this due to the new engine mounts? I understand there will be some new vibration present for a couple of weeks until the mounts 'settle' but is what I am experiencing due to the new mounts? I have also had new timing chains fitted too and a new clutch...all work done at The Phirm who are very good. Thanks for any help. Cheers Matt
  4. Dixxy, sorry to cut in, what mods are you running to have 220-230bhp? Do you have forced induction? I also agree with above, get a genuine VW clutch. I spoke to Stealth recently regarding whether it's worth getting an uprated flywheel and they said it won't make a huge difference. The standard one is very good and lasts very well too.
  5. Right. Finally had my chains done! The Phirm did a great job, and being just up the road from me (near Farnham) were very easy to get to. They said Storm had basically got the timing all wrong when they put the head back on. The cam timing was too retarded and a tooth out. This was what caused my flat spot. They had not lined it up properly and had not turned the engine over. This time The Phirm did it correctly and used a marker near or on the clutch (which is how it is supposed to be done) and now my car pulls extremely strong from 2000 revs (and explodes above 3k revs) onwards right to the red line! It's a total transformation. I also had a new starter motor fitted. Bit of a hefty bill but at least now I can finally enjoy my car after nearly two months of hassle with Storm Developments!! Makes a big difference if the timing is out!
  6. Cheers. One question: can a remap manipulate the torque levels at different revs - in other words could Stealth increase the low down torque with the remap? I'm not too bothered about top end bhp.
  7. Hi I'm seeing Stealth in a month and was thinking about a possible remap (which is a dastek unichip). My golf vr6 (odb2) currently has the following modifications: - Cat back (2.25" standard bore) stainless Milltek Exhaust system. - Milltek high flow cat. - Free flowing stainless 6 branch exhaust manifold. - And soon to be fitted BMC induction kit. I know on an ODB2 Golf VR6 a remap wont actually give a rise in power on a standard car. Other than the initial increase in power to 200bhp I already have with the mods above, will I "gain" any more power/torque, on top of this with a remap or will it not make a lot of difference but just improve the driveability? Thanks for any help. Cheers Matt
  8. Let us know how the Highsports feel as I was considering these too for my golf vr6. I have yet to find any reviews at all from people with Highsports. How long are the Highsports supposed to last? The Phirm told me GMAX suspension kits have a guarantee for 3 years. The only thing that bothers me is the fact the GMAX sus kit only lowers the car 35mm which seems a bit small. Do they do a bigger drop kit for a golf vr6?

    z chargers

Apparently they're supposed to be serviced every 3k miles (I think). The ZR1 is least reliable as it doesn't have a cogged belt and was prone to slipping leading to other engine damage/problems due to this. The ZR2 was much better because it had the cogged belt. Don't know anything about the ZR3 though I'm afraid.

    chains

If you're near Guildford go to The Phirm mate...Tim in there has over 16 year's experience. They and Stealth are the best around. If you read Performance VW magazine they really rate The Phirm. They are based near Farnham / Haselmere. Not far from you at all. They are an hour from me which is why I chose them. Visit http://www.thephirm.co.uk

    chains

The Phirm have quoted me between £500-600, including all parts, and new clutch. They are in the south. If you're near the midlands give Stealth Racing a call as they're very good too.
  12. Did do and the price is spot on but really am in a rush for various reasons and the ride at the mo is f***ing awful( sorry mods only way to describe it). slimbos group buy dosnt finish till the end of the month. Plus darren at g-werks has a good price for forum members and in stock :D Its going to be low  Does your GMAX suspension kit (shocks and springs) make the ride really bad? I was thinking about some for my golf vr6.
  13. They charged me £650. The work they DID do was the head gasket and hydraulic tensioner bolt. The Phirm confirmed this but also confirmed that the gearbox was not removed (all the nuts and bolts were clearly untouched - even I could see that) and said none of the chains could have been removed with the gearbox left on - it was impossible. Plus the timing chain noise is still there. The work they did do - i.e the head gasket and top tensioner would normally cost around £650 so basically that's what I paid for and nothing else. I'm not going to pursue it as it was only word of mouth before hand that they would do my chains (as it would be with any garage). I haven't been overcharged for the work that was 'actually' done. But Storm Developments are clearly not to be trusted and should be avoided! Plus the work they did do was obviously poor as they didn't put the cams back in properly. Again, very hard to prove unless the engine is taken apart. Which The Phirm are doing for me next week when they do my chains properly this time.
  14. I have already taken it back to them but they are useless and have since found out they lied to me about doing my timing chains (my car was due to have all my chains done and have the head gasket replaced) - the head gasket was replaced however they lied to me about doing the chains as my gearbox wasn't ever removed so they couldn't have done my chains!! I don't trust them to take my head apart to be honest! So for them to replace my head gasket they would have to reset my timing etc? Thanks again for your help answering my question.
  15. Hi I still have my big flat spot remaining since Storm Developments replaced my head gasket on my golf vr6 which is annoying. The Phirm reckon this is highly likely to be the cam timing being out - when Storm put the head back on. No faults show up on VAG COM. I have a question, when a head gasket is replaced and the head is put back on - do the cams (and their timing) need to be touched or reset in any way? Would Storm have had to set my timing when they replaced my head gasket? Thanks for any help. Matt
  16. Cheers guys I'll take a look at the link.
  17. Hi I was looking at Stealth's website and they seem to specialise in rebuilding and also uprating engine cylinder heads - one way is to "gas flow" it. How much does this normally cost and are the power / torque gains worth it? Does it improve low down torque as opposed to top end power? I assume a 'big valve' head is different to a gas flowed head? And what is a ported head? What are the costs and power gains for each? I've got a Golf VR6 (ODB2). Thanks for any info. Cheers Matt
  18. Hi I've been recommended I go for GMAX suspension kits by quite a few people as they are low cost but in fact very good quality and last. Has anyone here used them or can confirm if this is true? My car's a golf VR6 which has far worse standard suspension than the Corrado. Hence I need an upgrade :) I've heard SPAX kits are far too bouncy. Aren't GMAX and Spax related companies - in which case are GMAX kits very bouncy too? Ideally I want a firmer ride but not too firm that I shatter teeth but also looks good with a lower stance but most of all a kit that eliminates body roll as much as possible making taking corners much more stable. As an alternative I could go for Koni shocks and Eibach springs however the cost is very high at ~£750 (taking the fitting/alignment into account too), or alternatively FK Highsport coilovers - although I've yet to see a review about them and how long they actually last. Any other alternatives? Thanks for any help. Matt

    Wheel spacers

Is it safe to use spacers on just my standard alloys? My aim is to make my wheels flush with my wheel arches (so it's mainly for show). I've got a golf vr6 with the standard 15" bbs alloys. What size spacers do you recommend and what's the cost?

    Wheel spacers

Hi I've heard lots of people use wheel spacers when they have new alloys fitted. However what exactly do wheel spacers do for the wheels? Do they make the wheels stick out further towards the wheel arch... for example if the alloys are rubbing slightly on calipers would fitting spacers solve this problem? Is it not advisable to stick wheel spacers on standard wheels... for example if I wanted my standard wheels to move slightly further towards the wheel arch? Cheers Matt
  21. I'm having the gearbox out for the timing chains replacement. So is an expensive job. But if there was something that was 'relatively' cheap to improve my gear box while it was out I'd definitely like to fit a final drive. But not if it will be useless just on its own. Will it be no good on its own? The reason why I don't want to stretch to having a diff (much as I would like) and rebuild is because it will cost nearly £1000 (probably much more) on top of having my chains done. Will a final drive on its own be a vast improvement over the standard gearbox or is it not worth it on its own? If not I'll leave my gearbox standard. Thanks for any help.
  22. How would my gearbox be with just the lower 3.68 final drive and pinion shaft on its own... without diff etc? Will it be pointless without the diff or will it still be a huge improvement with just the final drive on its own?
  23. Cheers guys. The Phirm are very good. Kev, how much did you pay for your whole gearbox.. rebuild included?
