  1. I think they look great on Audi's and I pondered with how it would look on my rado, having seen a white A5 drive past me the other day.

The trouble with any sort of light mod is that it can result in it appearing a bit chavvy.

I once acted like a bit of an old git, but I thought I was funny when a bloke in a lexus lighted french shopping trolley reversed into my wife's car in Staines car park.

I told him jokingly "you Lexus drivers are are all the same" (half taking the micky, but obviously he didn't get my dry sense of micky taking)

    He said "It's a Citroen you w***er"

I stopped trying to make light of it after that and said "yes that would be right - fake luxury on crap - a bit like your gold necklace on a shellsuit"

Except I didn't because I am too slow witted, and instead I blushed a bit, and my wife had to save me from further embarrasment by starting to yell at him for what he did to her bumper in her full on agressive geordie voice.

    Bah!

  2. OK, they are on - here's a taster.

They look good - but to be honest I'm not as blown away by them as when I had my 15s diamond cut for the first time. They look smart, and have a little more poke, and actually are quieter on the road, but I'm not sure if I'm wowed by them.

I'll get more before and after photos up later.

  3. Brand spanking factory fresh Speedlines - not a refurb!

They were specially produced at the factory in response to a request from me, and earlier requests by other forum members!

I got in at the right time I think as I only had a 6 week wait from enquiry to them sitting in my front room.

I love lots of other wheels - and had opted for 5 spokes rather than BBS / Mesh style as I love the way the corrado looks on 5 spoke. I'd considered Schmidt, RS, Asev, Keskins etc - all terrific looking wheels, but in the end settled on the Speedline because in my view the only thing wrong with the Speedline is that it looks a bit small by todays standards in its original 15" form, plus I figured that 16" Speedies are rarer than hens teeth, and will make my car look better without it being obvious that I've changed the wheels.

I've seen some white rados with poor wheel choices (fortunately, none seem to be on here) and it seems that a bad wheel choice stands out more on a white car than any other.

So I figure if it looks good small and standard - that extra 1 inch would make it look even better.

:) in 36 hours we'll all see what a difference it makes :)

  4. Where did you buy your 16" speedlines from and how long did it take to get them? They look very good! :)

... And what did they cost?

    Look awesome!

To both of you they were £125 + VAT each = £575 all in, including delivery. Plus the £350 quid I've spent on my Chaka Demus and Pliers (Tyres).

    So not cheap.

I've been trying to let the missus lend me her scales so I can weigh each wheel, but she won't let me, so hopefully I can do it when she is out tonight!

  5. I got myself some of that Tesco foam upholstery cleaner and did my headliner - it's amazing stuff - no tide marks - dead easy to apply and fantastic results. Cheers for the tip - it's far better than the autoglym stuff I'd tried previously!

Also I got some of their white microfibre cloths - 3 for £1. Brilliant for wiping the dirty foam off.

  6. I haven't bought my tyres yet because I'm confused! A tyre calculator comparing 205 50 R15s and searching for suitable tyre sizes proposes the following - to fit a 7 inch wide 16" diameter wheel. They work by me typing in the current size and they "do the math".

    Tyre code Diameter Circumference Difference

    ---------- -------- ------------- ----------

    215/40 R16 578 mm 1816 mm -1.3 % (8.60cm side wall)

    205/45 R16 591 mm 1857 mm 0.84 % (9.23cm side wall)

    215/45 R16 600 mm 1885 mm 2.37 % (9.68cm side wall)

It seems like the 205 45 R16 is the best balance between circumference (for gearing and speedometer accuracy) and comfort because it is slap bang in the centre between the other two, but now I hear that 215 45 R16 is probably closer to what VW would advise for a 16x7 wheel!

But perhaps the general consensus is in favour of the 205 45 R15s.....

My head hurts. And with me looking at 90 quid a corner (I like to put the best tyre on I can afford), I don't want to get this wrong!

    Help!

oh P.s. I am lowered by about 35mm on the gmax suspension from what I recall. My splitter is so low it could be used to lift coins off marble floors and I hate speedbumps almost as much as my sump does.

  7. As you know I haven't a clue about modified stuff and couldn't appreciate one wheel from another but..... I recon that these will look wonderful.

A standard wheel but that little bit bigger as 15s are so tiny now a days.

Looking forward to seeing the after pics.

Thanks Judith, I think this is a subtle mod that will make the car look better. I will miss the look of my diamond cut 15s though!

  8. OK, some of you will have heard about these bad boys in another thread - here is my ceremonial disrobing of 'em.

  9. This is by far my favourite build thread at the moment - Can you take a photo of the tescos cleaner please mate? Mine needs doing, and I'm impressed with your results. I take it you did it in the car yeah?

  10. Obviously you won't get poke like somedeep dish ET15 16x9 inchers, but I'm hoping that coming from standard speedlines to these, I'll be happy whilst maintaining handling and an OEM look.

I can't wait to see these in the metal, and I'll take plenty photos when they're fitted so everyone can see how they look.

    Cheers,

  11. Sorry - more questions mate - what offset are these and what width? When I got my Comp2's before, they were only 16x7 and the offset meant that they sat slightly too far into the wheel arch and looked a bit skinny! Great from side on - but really needed spacing out a little bit.

    16x7 ET 35

that =1mm more inner clearance, and extend 13mm out so should look a lot wider.

  12. It is a lot of cash when you consider the choice of lovely wheels these days, but these are proper high temperature Aluminium lightweight motor sport wheels, like the compomotives, rather than glamour wheels, and will outlast a lot of the fakes and cheaper wheels.

I personally was close to getting some dished mesh style alloys, but I decided that at the end of the day, a wider 16" with a lower ET will look really smart and yet still be functional.

  13. I spoke to Speedline last month and they are getting me some 16"s x 7 ET35 5x100 over from Italy.

I need to call them for an update, but I might be able to get some for you as well!

    Ta,

Ah that's pretty cool, speedlines in 16" would be the perfect choice.

How much are they charging if you don't mind me asking?

I'm not going to be buying for a little while as I was made redundant a few months ago :( but any help in the meantime is appreciated.

    Cheers!

OK - my 16" Speedlines are coming to me on Friday - I could have had them tomorrow if it had been possible for me to accept delivery. The price is £575 including delivery. The wheels are 5x100 ET35 and should take the original bolts. The centre bore is a perfect 57.1.

PM me if you want the phone number of my contact at Speedline :)
