  1. If the fault is due to a wheel sensor it shouldn't light up the warning light until the car is moving as the system detects there is speed present with no pulse signal from the sensor.

If you want to check the resistance of the sensors they should read somewhere between 1100 - 1300 Ohms.

  2. Can anyone suggest the best positon to mount the basslink in my boot in order to get the best sound. I currently have it against the back seat with the speaker facing towards the tailgate. It sounds a tad boomy at times. Has anyone experimented with this?

Also, does anyone have any alternatives for mounting the unit without screwing it to the boot floor?

  3. Fitted the Basslink to the system tonight and what a difference it has made, I'm amazed at the amount of bass response this little box can produce.

Now that I can dial out some of the low frequency that was going to the front speakers I can drive them a bit harder without distortion and they sound much better just handling the mid frequencies.

I think I'll run things with this setup for a bit and decide whether I need to change the front speakers but on first impressions I'm more than happy.

If anyone is looking for a bit more low end oomph I would highly recommend the Infinty basslink. :D

  4. I recently upgraded the head unit in the C to a Sony MEX-BT3600U which is great as I can use it for handsfree phone calls via Bluetooth and also slot my 16GB USB key in the front and listen to MP3s.

The only problem now is the standard speakers are letting things down so I’ve been looking at the possible options for upgrading and came up with the following:

Infinity Kappa 50.9CS components up front

JBL or Infinity Reference 4x6 rears

Infinity Basslink mounted in the boot

    I have two questions:

The head unit is rated at 52w x 4 and I was wondering if this is sufficient to drive the Kappas or whether they need to be driven with an amplifier, otherwise I would look at getting the Infinity 5020 Reference series instead.

Has anyone fitted the JBL GTO 6428 or Infinity REF6422CF in the rear enclosures and do they fit without any modding or would I need the JBL GTO 6427e speakers.

    Any advice welcome.

  5. That's a nice looking Storm, must have been well cared for. I'm sure it will bring you a lot of enjoyment.

You'll notice you get a lot more attention with it than you do in your Golf. It's amazing how often people will come up to you and comment on how nice your car is. :D

    Have fun!

  6. Yes the Last Storm was Green with beige leather and fitted with Solitudes. The remaining 499 storms were all sold in the UK where the badges were fitted at the dealerships selling them. IIRC the last Storm did originally come to the UK where it was used as a demonstrator before being driven back to the Auto Museum at Wolfburg.

This one by any chance? Saw it when i went to the auto museum this year, it was MINT!! And then for some reason the G60 next to it wasn't even standard, had all sorts of crap on it, different wheels, eyebrow, seat covers, speakers in parcel shelf  it was as if someone who worked there just said "I'll just bring mine in and park it next to the green one, its a corrado!"

Yep, that looks like 50SK004043 :D

Strange about the modded G60, but at least they are not too uptight at the museum to have it there next to the Storm

  7. My (briefly owned) Classic Green VR6 had a February 96 build date on it. Registered in June the same year.

The build date is the important bit here; many cars were built in 1995 (including I believe all the Storms) but many were not actually registered until well over a year later.

I believe physical production of the car at Karmann ended in March 1996.

The last car (Storm) 4043 is listed (in etka) as produced at the end of June '95. AFAIK there were no other Cs produced after this date. My Storm (3267) was built in 95 (between March and April) but wasn't registered until Jan '96.

Where did you locate a build date of Feb '96 from?

    Hi Paul,

I didn't check the VIN number at the time, but the engine had a Feb 96 build date on it's identification sticker.

    Hi John,

As with the aforementioned ABS relay, it could be the case that the car had an engine change at some stage. The last VR engine listed for the C was ABV018370, produced in June 95, however, the ABV engine was still in produciton after this time and used in the Passat Syncro/4Motion up to engine No. ABV022380 with production ceasing in Dec '96.

The final Storm was a special order from VW to Karman to ensure it was the last car produced.

If its the same car i saw there this year then they never badged it as a storm. It is green with all the trimmings inc a/c etc but no Storm badges. I know this is pretty minor but wondered if this meant that all 500 came over here? I always thought the green C @ Karman was a Storm too....... Too me back to '96 when I smelled the interior!! :D [/quote:tmzuiymg]

The badges arrived at the dealers in packs like this:

  8. Nope, I'm the second owner.

Car's had a lot of VWSH in the past. Guess the relays could have been replaced, but it seems a bit odd to replace them with relays of approximately the same age as the car.

VW would have produced a lot of relays around the time of production of the C and afterwards, which could very well have been held in stock for some time until required.

If any of the Cs were produced in 96 they would have had a VIN No. containing 50TK00**** the "T" denoting production in 1996. I'm pretty sure there aren't any. The last Cs have an "S" in the VIN denoting 1995

How can you find out which number Storm you have? Is there somewhere on the car that tells you?

The Storms weren't numbered, the numbers i'm quoting are the vin numbers.

  10. Where did you locate a build date of Feb '96 from?

See, I've got components with 11/95 on them, specifically the ABS relays for example....

Have you had the car from new? Maybe the relays had to be replaced at some stage in the cars life.

  12. Thread resurrection I know but just came across the info on mine.

Delivered March 1996, chassis ends 3998, am I right in saying it is then the 45th last produced Corrado from the factory?!?!

You are correct in that assumption as the Vin Nos were issued sequentially. The last car produced (50SK004043) is the Storm that is now kept at the VW museum in Wolfsburg, Germany.

The 500 Storms were randomly produced in the final run of 1300 cars and this is why the VINs do not run sequentially.

The final Storm was a special order from VW to Karman to ensure it was the last car produced.

  13. Sorry to hear you are seeling the Storm Rick but i'm sure you will enjoy the new car a hell of a lot.

I suppose it had to go, now that you are getting on a bit, and you need something a little easier to get in and out of

Enjoy the new car and good luck with your sale of the Storm.

  14. I cant understand why anyone would change the rad on a VR6 without taking the front bumper/slam panel off! Its so easy to remove the front, 10 mins to take off if that and it would make the job soooo much easier! :cuckoo:

I changed mine with the bumper on and didn't find it difficult at all. Couldn't see the point in taking the bumper/slam panel off when there wasn't any need to. Once the fans and the battery are removed it slides out easily enough.

  15. not sure what the problem is, however i can tell you the switch overides the automatic mechanism so should lower the spoiler at any time.

I can't lower the spoiler on mine with the button if I'm travelling above the automatic raise speed, only when I'm under 56 mph.

  16. My water temps can range from anything between 90ish up to 110 depending on ambient temp and how hard i'm driving the car. My oil temp can range from anything between 90 up to 124 (hard driving in the summer).

As far as i'm concerned, these are not temps to be worried about. As someone else already mentioned, the coolant system is pressureised and under pressure the boiling point of the coolant is raised so 110 degrees is nothing to be worried about.

IMO once you start heading towards 120 degrees on water temps it's time to start looking for a problem.

  17. VW for you...

It's all down to the dealers - I think VW themselves aren't that bad. My local dealership is doing lots to encourage enthusiasts into its workshops these days - discounted rates for older cars, and discounts at the parts counter. And they're happy to process long / tedious orders of nuts and bolts, etc which some arrogant / arsey stealerships are not willing to do these days!

As Jim says some dealers are encouraging owners of older cars to have them serviced at their dealerships. I have been using Abridge in Harlow and they give discounted labour rates for older cars (I think over 10 years).
