  1. You can't compare the corrado to a more modern audi or vw for pedal feel. It will have more travel and require a bit more force but should still stop effectively. Can you get the fronts to lock/abs to kick in?

     

    If you are still not too sure then either take it somewhere and have it checked or find a forum member near you so you can make a comparison with their car.


  2. The VR will struggle against a lot of modern multivalve smaller capacity engines. As said, under 4k rpm in standard spec it's on the sluggush side without a schrick or VSR and some new cams. I prefer to cruise nowadays and just watch other druvers admire the car as they drive past, priceless :-)


  3. Firstly, are you using dot 5 or dot 5.1? You should only use dot 5.1 as dot 5 is silicone based and not compatible with the seals on a Corrado.

     

    Bleeding with an eazibleed is pretty straight forward. Make sure you don't use more than about 18 psi or you may pop the master cylinder seal. Make sure you keep checking the fluid container is filled otherwise air will re-enter the system.

     

    Bleed the OSR, NSR, NSF and OSF in that order and just make sure you are getting clear fluid with no bubbles from each caliper before moving on to the next one. Then bleed at the two bleed nipples on the top left of the ABS pump and finally the bleed nipple on the master cylinder. You may want to bleed some fluid from the clutch slave cylinder although I have never found this necessary.

     

    Once completed you should have a firm pedal, if not repeat the process.


  4. Rear brake pipes seem to be a common advisory/fail now if they are the originals. Had an advisory on my rear pipes showing signs of corrision at mot time in April. Changed them all out now from the abs pump to all four corners so wont be worring about them for next yesrs mot although the steering rack might be another matter.

  6. It looks very nice Gracie. Shame about the high insurance premium. The new level playing field between male and female premiums probably hasn't helped your cause. If you could be added as a named driver on your parents policy where you earn your own no claims bonus thid would help after 12 months.

    I took my 93 vr6 too get plugged into vagcom yesterday and we could talk too the engine no problems but when trying too talk too the abs system we had no joy . I got told it could.possibly be a abs pump itself what. Has gone or the ecu.has anyone any idears on the solution as it needs mot next month but wont pass due too abs light staying on

     

    To get vagcom to communicate with the ABS ECU you will need to set the latency to 5 for the com port you are using. Go into device manager on your pc and under ports select the port you are using for Vagcom and I think you have to go into advanced settings and change the latency setting to 5. This should cure the problem.

    Could also anyone tell me if part number 358614117 abs pump will fit the vr6 as. Mine is part number 358614217 which I believe is off a mk3 golf vr6

     

    Yes the 358614217 part is from a golf and isn't interchangeable with the Corrado.


  8. Started my cooling system overhaul today. Jobs for completion were a new water pump, thermostat, crack pipe, expansion tank, system flush and a refill with G13/dionised water mix.

    The crack pipe eventually came out after a lot of effort, there was quite a bit of surface rust around the opening to the block and the pipe started to disintergrate once it finally came out. After a good clean up the new one went back in.

    The water pump was also welded into the block and once out it was evident that some of the plastic fins on the impellor had snaped off. After a bit if fishing around in the block I managed to remove all of the detached pieces. My car is on 115000 miles and was still running the original pump so if yours is on similar mileage and your pump hasn't been changed then it might be worth changing it as a precaution. There was some play in the bearing but the seals were holding up with no leaks.

    Cleaned up the mating surface on the block and refitted the new pump.

    The one thing I did forget was to get a new gasket that goes between the thermostat housing and the block. So the rest of the work is on hold until I get one.

     

    Does anyone know if the gasket a VW only part or can I get it elsewhere or online?
