Well I did have a expansion tank cap obliterate an it was a blue one but halfords special, that hasn't happened since it was replaced with blue VW one. Its hard to see where this water is coming from exactly without car being up on a ramp, is it possible the water comes out the head itself. A mechanic did say if head gasket gone hoses might start to blow. A mate said he would do a compression test but what with xmas etc its been a non starter on that front

Head gasket has been mentioned to me with regards to losing water in the past, but it's not had the obvious tell tale signs, is it possible that is is the head gasket and water is trying to find ways out. I don't have a clue just going on what others have said, I notice the hoses are gettting really hot and you can squeeze them but not much. Wondering if its a case of me fixing things one after the other and each time something else goes pop... Or maybe just a coincidence?
-
So guess its sounding like that then, is it low down or quite high up. Am I right in thinking the VR6 has two water pumps. The water seems to be dripping onto a pipe that runs along the bottom, it seems to be quite oily, also seems to be water sitting on the edge of the sump I think it is
-
Shite sorry, thought some folk would remember with amount of probs had in next to no milage over the last year... 95 VR6 Storm...or was that VR6 Sieve  At this rate, I'll be turning Japanese or just using the Golf all the time lol

Ok wonder if anyone can point in right direction again, losing water initially, turned out to the a slight crack in the thermo housing which was getting worse. All that replaced and fine you think, yes coolant level to max mark when hot and sat inbetween when cold.. But very short lived as now losing again, initially couldn't see anything under the car but after today certainly can. This time its the opposite side of the engine from the housing and the drips seem to be coming from two places or maybe its one but its leaving two lots once its fell to the ground. Whats sort of stuff lurks in and around this side of the engine, any pointers and likely candidates. Cheers

I know the feeling...especially since getting a Corrado!
-
Yes thinking this could maybe be the same, do you know if this can be had from Ford, at this rate would have been as well paying VW the 70 odd quid they wanted for the lot lol
-
Yes makes sense, thats why I started to do yesterday when got back to the house later on, was bit worried about damaging the hose and it was taking a lot of force to budge, will have another bash at it tomorrow. I got a pack of some 18-25mm ones and some smallers ones that were just loose, samller ones seem a better bet. Did you do anything with the small hose that goes into the top, mine was crimped but wasn't exactly tight
-
CHeers for the reply, what method do you find best for removal of these things. I got the impression it should be a good seal with no clip but my engineer friend said it will be their for a reason...namely vibration  I got a couple of clips from B and Q, take it these are ok and you dont get special ones for cars do you. Oh and is it normal for there to be oil if you follow that hose back towards the bulkhead where it bends up to the big fat air pipe?
-
Anyone replaced one of these with the single Ford part rather than the whole thing that VW sell. One side is held on with a jubilee clip but the other seems to be crimped on, whats the story with these crimps, take it they are one shot and thats it. Whats best way to get them off without damaging the hose and does it need crimped again or will a jubilee suffice Cheers

I have had problems with this system after a flat battery, didn't find out about this sequence until later. When its connected now, it seems to drain the battery quite quick, so I have just pulled the fuse, is it likely if I disconnect the battery and reconnect using the correct sequence then all will be well or is that just wishfull thinking
-
How do you remove this thing, not at the jubilee end but at the other end where it seems to be crimped on, just by force or another one of VW special tools then. The short pipe literlly falls off but the fatter end doesnt want to just pop out.

i would like to see more offset with an 8mm spacer and longer bolts and also some 45 profile tyres ,55s will look to higher profile Cheers for that, thought that might be the case, not so cheap if need to buy full set of rubber really

Cheers mate, they reckon they might manage Thursday, car been garaged but being in Aberdeen frosts a plenty :D Saying that I have been up Inverness way for the last week or so and its been minus 9...makes Aberdeen seem like the Bahamas
-
Apparently the 4 Motion wheels at ET42, whatever significance that has. Will these be ok with 55 profile tyres that they come with or is that a no no, bearing in mind both the MK3 Golf we have and the Corrado VR6 were fitting with 205-50-15 as standard
-
Yes it's quite new and would say smalled than 5p, no go on the insurance though. Called company there they reckon £35 plus the vat, that sound about right, are these little chips likely to get worse or do they like to promote that idea to get people to repair them
-
I have a chip on the windscreen and wondered if it's best to get someone out to see if they can repair it, never had this done before as the times have had screens go they have needed replaced for sure. Anyone else had a small chip repaired, is it recommended?
-
Jumping on this thread to save making another as it seems the OP is sorted. I don't know my ET35 from ABC123...so wondered if someone could advise. Know someone selling a set of 16" Golf V6 4 Motion alloys and off the top of my head they are 6

Just picked up this part from Ford, not near the Corrado now, did your part seem very rigid and solid, just I recall when looking at the split section on the Corrado it seemed to be more soft rubber than hard plastic, or maybe the go like that over time.
-
I've heard that somewhere before, you sure you dont need a special VW tool :D Do you have any idea if this could be due to a head problem, just I'm still losing water, posted a bit on the engine bay section with a bit more detail.
-
Not worried, well suppose I am worried that this head is going or gone but not showing much of the signs. With regards to this, my query was aimed at 'draining the block is a good idea when doing a coolant change' which I took to mean that if you did not drain from the crack pipe then old mix stays in the head/block and I suppose that can't be a good thing, but maybe it doesn't matter at all

Recently had the thermo housing and gubbings changed as was leaking like a sieve. Car hasn''t had a great deal of use since this due to it needing brake pipes and a few other bits for test. Noticing on the runs I have been on, the expansion tank seems to be down each time. Whats happening to this water, there is none of the tell tale signs of head gasket but miles are above 150k and people you talk to say wouldn't be surprised what with being a vr6 and the mileage. When I have the run the car, the engine and oil temps seem to be good going on the info have found on the forum. I took the car for a good run earlier and parked up at about 6pm, went out to the car at around 11pm popped the bonnet to take a photo of some split hose (not water) and could hear a hissing which was coming from the expansion tank, took cap off and replaced, hissing gone. Is this normal for the car to still be hissing like that so long after running or even at all.

Does it matter if system been drained and topped up again but when being drained this block and head plug was never touched?
-
Does this look like the part I need from Ford? Are they easy enough to change? What makes this hose go, if your head gasket is going going gone is this part affected?
