Does this mean you have to take your newly fitted housing to pieces again?
-
Cheers for the info, hopefully Ford can come up with the goods in the end. See when a head gasket is gone on the VR6 would you see water dripping down, just some people have said my HG could be gone. The leak I had was on and off initially but now it seems to be guaranteed and the water is dripping down pretty central when looking underneath.

I was hoping to get the parts from Ford, not only cause they are cheaper but thats twice I have had the wrong bits from VW. When spoke to Ford guy said come in, no problem will set you straight but wasn't able to go in on the Friday, instead went in Saturday and the guy who was on said he didn't know much about car stuff, only commericals. So I was hoping someone could look at the diagram I uploaded and say you need part 1,2,3,7,8,12 etc Then I can hopefully go in and just point at what I want...then might get somewhere at last :D
-
Wonder if someone could point me in the right direction with regards to parts I need off this diagram as yet again a main dealer lets me down, they dont seem to know what you want when you ask for the whole housing etc. Anyway I took this off them and wondered which numbers do you need from the diagram, not the whole lot I guess. I already have the thermostat, part number 4 and 2 from VW but don't think they gave me new allen bolts or whatever they are. Was intending to get the rest from Ford but they don't seem very sure themselves Cheers

Quite pricey but due to fact getting all the kit for $47 guess cant be bad. Do people normally do the crack pipe, I mean is it one of those things if doing the housing etc just aswell to do it.
-
Did they say what the delivery charge would be and estimated times etc
-
Cazza just got back on dry land, they said come in and can print you off a copy of the screen shot, so will do that today. Did pass one of the part numbers to try and help them suss it out but you had listed them as 8 for the part and 8 for this etc, they just said its 23 plus vat for the housing. I said to the guy surely the 2.8 and 2.9 are the same, his responce was no they are 'totally' different. Whats the longer single pipe in that americano linky, do you need that bit too?
-
How many times have I read that something would be simple only to call and it to be the complete opposite...arghhhhh Ford, whats the reg, what age is it, what engine is it, 2.8 and 2.9 housing are completely different blah blah Well how much is it roughly...23.94 plus vat for the housing, thats not including any of the swtiches/seals/bolts etc.. This sound right, doesnt to me. I asked is same as VW and he said no, was only the diesel 1.9....eh Anyone be more specific on this housing carry on with regards to ford?

Looks good, I have a nephew living over near there, but he is not the most reliable lad in the world :D Click on the link about the staff...first guy....interests..Asian women

No pic or part number as offshore just now but from that link, after me calling VW and asking for thermo housing and stat, with any associated bits, ie bolts/seals all I got was the stat..a rubber seal/gasket thing and the part pictured on the bottom right of the pic.

I done a search and found part numbers that you had posted 1022692 - stat/head seal £1.59 ea x1 1018807 - crackpipe/stat seal £0.85 ea x2 7198663 - sensor seal £0.67 ea x3 1032251 - stat housing £8.35 x1 1032252 - stat housing £8.20 x1 (can't remember which is which, but these are the two smaller housing parts- I bought the large housing part which houses the sensors off Ebay ) 1428105 - screw panhead £0.58 x2 1018814 - screw socket HD £0.53 x2 1018816 - screw socket HD £1.18 x3 1669965 - coolant sensor £8.01 x1 I already got something from VW, I order the full housing and stat but only got part, wondering which part I could eliminate from the above. I am led to believe it is the cheaper of the part I got from VW and if I recall it came with a seal. Any ideas

Seem to recall reading about this, are the parts the same quality as VW...well as quality as plastic gets but then a Halfords expansion cap looks little different to the VW one. Also what do you ask for exactly?
-
Big if, surprise you how many garages don't have these testers, VW dealers dont and all others I called never had bar one.
-
It was a Sunday, the original black one had been butchered by previous owner so Halfords it was...but hadn't read the forum then. Obviously got the VW blue one now but someone reckoned that the blowing of the cap was an indicator of HG probs. While back took it too a garage, popped bonnet and the cap wasn't even on it had flew off but was stil intact, got car up on ramp but no leak visible and the mechanic didnt seem much cope at all, not leaking, nothing wrong blah blah, dont know cant be bothered style!
-
Try an r32 one :D
-
Done that and hard to tell where coming from, I can see it landing on the deck pretty much central when looking underneath. I was told to ask for the thermo housing...the whole lot and what they gave me was the elbow part you talk of I think, the R32 stat fits in that ok..I think. Reason I ask about slow in warming up is seems to be lot of talk of faulty temp switches/senders etc. Did I read somewhere that you are better to get the bits from Ford somewhere? Either way need to get hold of right bits...then need to get someone to do it and need to be on dry land myself, that might help :D Storm wil be rotting away in the garage, owned for 1yr, driven for 1000-1500 miles or so, not good at all.
-
Doesnt appear to be any mixing, I had a halfords coolant cap obliterate into a million pieces, not sure of thats down to pressure or a poor cap. Just sometimes you can see it leaking and other times you cant, however more recently it does seem to be more visible. One time the water was spurting upwards and then tried to make it leak again to identify where was coming from and nothing at all.
-
Have had a VR6 for about a year now and hardly clocked any miles on it as has this leak and havent been around much to even attempt tp get it sorted. Mixed opinions on it all, some say HG, some housing. I did order new housing etc from VW but like with other people they only gave me part of it. Anyway have read about these low temp stats, but was advised against them and also read some vr6 ones have been faulty...so was advised to use one for an r32..anyone comment on this? With regards to the cars behaviour since have owned it, the temperature doesn't seem to get upto much whilst continuous driving, seems to take an age for the guage to move at all from cold, what is this sort of behaviour usually associated with? Often sits at 75 when driving all time but soon rockets upto 100-110 is sat in traffic. Sometimes it leaks, sometimes it doesnt, sometimes you park up and no visible leak but if you look back after shutdown then its lost quite a bit of water.

Not so good mate, I had a car robbed few year back, I always make sure have decent steering lock on now
-
Cool, I was just worried I had removed part that was meant to be in that hole and opened and closed by whatever means... Guess it must just be part of the cap that got blown up
-
I needed a cap when first got car as last owner had butchered black VW one whilst removing it by looks of it. VW never had any, so got a Halfords one but didnt realise they were that mince until it blew to bits and then found out on here. Now have the VW blue cap but still got a temperemental leak which obviously isnt the caps fault. Well trying to explain which hole I mean, if you took cap off and looked into tank...an empty tank that is, there is a hole in the centre but there was a piece of plastic that appeaed to have came out this hole, now whether it was just another bit of the blitzed cap that had mamaged to stay intact and happens to be of similar size to belong to this hole or whether it belong there and is part of the tank, I have no idea, thought someoe might know since plenty cooling issues with Corrados ;)
-
Have run it since this, not for too far and temp guage has never gone through roof or nothing, its got a leak but it doesnt seem to leak all time so hard to pin point where from, so is it housing or head gasket. Just want to check if there should be a part at the bottom of these tanks.
-
Wonder if anyone could help, I had a halfords cap blow to bits and obviously it left quite a few broken bits of plastic and springs in the tank, tried to get all out and thought had done but now tank is empty again after last run noticed few more bits still in there, so now removed them. While removing them also got hold of some other black plastic bit which wasnt in bits and judging by the staining on it, it had been there for a while... When you look into one of these tanks is there meant to be a hole at the bottom with nothing in it or is it meant to have some sort of valve in the bottom

Did the buyer drive a hard bargain, was he a trader? Just I noticed it up for sale and they are asking 8.5k

How do I check the voltage at the alt exactly? Only thing I have done is checked the reading at the battery while its running and it was 13.75 or thereabouts. Glovebox is empty so doubt it be that but worth a check, away from home at moment though.
