  1. Fitted new ignition switch only to find that the battery had gone flat after being left standing for two weeks. Fitted new reverse switch. Fitted new speakers. Not much left to break on it now ......touch wood
  2. If it feels snatchy when you let the clutch out it could well be the pressure plate. No offence but are you sure you fitted the new mountings correctly?
  3. could be a broken spring in your pressure plate
  4. Hmm ...if it's keyed to the linkage then i guess it can't move .....was going to unbolt it and have a look but the weather put a stop to that. I've ordered a switch from the VAG stealers now anyways.
  5. is it possible for the sleeve to be out of adjustment or rather bolted down incorrectly therefore not activating the switch when it should be?
  6. If you want to carry more than one passenger get a Corrado....if you are an unsociable selfish speed freak like me ...buy a 200sx and save the one spare seat you have for the one you love....he he
  7. Took the C into town today.....and just when i was about to leave the ignition switch gave up the gost....pffft. After scratching my head for 15 mins i remembered an old trick. Took the black/red spaded wire off the starter motor and with the ignition turned on shorted across the battery feed and spade terminal on the starter motor with a rubber handled screwdriver. Afew sparks and away she went. The old tricks are the best ones...lol
  8. Just phoned my local VAG dealer and the reverse light switch was quoted as around £8+VAT. Also quoted me £17+VAT for an ignition switch.
  9. Yes the dials work....the MFA has power but doesn't display the speed or anything else correctly. Usually shows 6mpg all the time, oil and water temp shows ----, etc..only thing that seems to work on it is the trip meter.
  10. mIne doesn't even work....can't say it bothers me though
  11. Is the paint supposed to be shiney? .....hmm never realised that
  12. As a nissan and a Corrado owner (and it's probably wrong of me to say in this forum)i would say that the Nissan would be a better buy. The Nissan is much more refined and in terms of performance for pounds and a worthy buy. As said above it should be more reliable all round, as long as you buy an unabused one,and cheaper to run and maintain in the long term.
  13. I'm not a Devonian either ...lol.....not many true ones left these days
  14. I was selling my Golf VR6, and had it for sale for over 6months, in the end dropped the price to £1600..... Which was way to little...but needed a cheaper car to run, so I did a swap for the corrado, but thought I would like it, but the chemistry just not there........................................ I have always liked corrado's but for some reason just not liking it much........Maybe it will grow on me..... The Corrado was a car that always caught my eye in the past. First time i drove mine i wasn't impressed at all but ,since sorting out MOST of the problems it had when i first got it, i'm finding the car grows on me by the day. Pushing the engine and handling to the limit can put a smile on your face.
  15. My immobiliser has been disconnected so i doubt it's that. Think i'll order a VAG switch as it only costs a few quid more than the GSF one. We'll organise a meet in the new year or sooner if we ever get a mini heatwave....lol.....or just let me know when you are up this way and i'll try and meet up with you.
  16. Just been out to look at the C during a break in the rain. Found the reverse light switch although it looks like nothing i have ever seen before...lol Connected the wires together that go to the switch and the lights work so it looks like the prob is the switch. Unbolted the switch and there seems to be a lot of grease in there. I notice that the cylinder part of the switch mechanism that is bolted to the linkage is held by one nut.....is this cylinder adjustable or is it fixed in one position i.e. slotted to the linkage? Also does anyone have any idea how much a new switch costs from VAG.
  17. Just been out during a break in the rain and my problem does seem to be the ignition switch. Any one have any idea a new one costs from VAG?
  18. I'm off work all weekend and Monday and Tuesday......plan to have a look at her tomoz to see what the prob is. I was just about to sort out the rust problem with some replacement panels as well :( Guess i'll get her sorted sooner or later....if i get her running i'll nip out to Ho to see you if yer like.
  19. i have the ignition swith under suspicion.....lately it's been a bit iffy. Can't be much else left to break on it now....lol....i've just about replaced all the usual things that do break.
  20. Just went out to start the C as it hasn't been used since Sunday, turned the key.....nothing.....realised it was in gear....took it out of gear......went to start again.....nothing.....lights go dim.....battery i thought......put battery on charge.....nope battery isn't flat at all.....looks like it might be the starter jammed. Given up as it's dark and raining...........pffffft Glad it's not my daily driver otherwise i'de be cursing it to high heaven :x All i've done since i got it is fix things
  21. This is the first VW i have ever owned and i can't say i am impressed with the design and quality of some parts of the car. Bought the car cheapish and so far have spent more time fixing things on it than diving it....lol. So why did i buy it? Well to me the C looks like a muscle car and not only that but it's also another car i always dreamed of owning. More fool me for dreaming....he he. Quite eventfull to drive though and i look forward to spending more time behind the steering wheel......hopefully driving
  22. I did look at that but couldn't see any wires coming from it. will check again tomoz.
  23. Is this on the top of the gearbox or underneath?
  24. okey doke......didn't look underneath coz it's been raining here will look tomoz....many thanks
