  1. I've just changed the belts on my 1.8 16 valver. The belt you are reffering to is the alternator belt. In order to fit that belt you have to remove the shorter power steering belt in front of it and i can tell you it can be a bit of a bummer to do. I would recommend unbolting all the bolts on the power steering pump and it's bracket because it seems to be the only way you can move the pump pulley enough to give you room to get the alternator belt past it. Both belts on the earlier C are V belts
  2. You should be able to get those bulbs at any good motor factors. They are used a lot in Japanese cars and sometimes have plastic or rubber shrouds over them to give the effect of being coloured.

    fog lights

might sound daft but i need to change a bulb in my front foglight but from just looking at them it doesn't seem obvious how they come apart. Anyone able to tell me?
  5. Problem now solved. It was the bottom pulley.....there was hardly any of the key left to speak of. New pulley and DX bolt now fitted and we have power at last. Many thanks to Gavin for his help and patience.
  6. Let me put it this way chaps. I'm 43 years old and with Highway i pay £165 and that's as a second car with only 30% discount. Hope that's made you feel better.
  7. Mods .....think it's about time you opened a new section for "WAS IT YOU"

    Idle switch

The terminals on the connector ar marked 1 to 3. I have the three following colours of wires:- Black Black/Yellow Blue (light blue maybe) Can anyone tell me which wire goes to which terminal please?

    Idle switch

Bobby .....the power steering belt also drives the water pump. The alternator is driven by the inner belt.....i had no probs loosening that.
  12. I have checked the mechanical timing and it seems to be ok. The bottom pulley doesn't appear to be loose at all. I'm hoping my problem is the idle/throttle switch. I will check the cambelt timing again ASAP but rain is spoiling my play at the moment .....pfffft.

1.8 16 valve 1991 Also need to know how you are suppose to slacken the power steering pump so you can change the drive belt.

    Idle switch

I've not long bought a Corrado as a project. It's not running right and i'm unable to set the timing. I've just found that all three wires that should be connected to the idle switch connector are disconnected. Does anyone have any idea which wire should be connected to each of the terminals 1 to 3?
  15. I've discovered what i think may be the cause of the problem. When disconnecting the air inlet pipes i discovered this:- http://photobucket.com/albums/y161/Gadg ... CF0005.jpg None of the wires are connected to the idle switch connector. Which coloured wires are supposed to go where? The connectors are marked 1 to 3. Also discovered this:- http://photobucket.com/albums/y161/Gadg ... CF0007.jpg A vacuum pipe with a bolt in the end. Under the air pipe that is closest to the throttle body are two connectors for vacuum pipes but none were connected. Any idea which ones are supposed to be? Also I have been trying to get the power steering belt off but can't seem to shift the pump. I've loosened all the bolts i can see but it still won't budge.
  16. Still not had a chance to check the timing belt yet ....will be doing so in the next day or so
  17. just a thought If someone has connected the fuel injection pipes up incorrectly......would this cause a timing problem? I've also noticed that some pr*tt has routed some of the pipes under the alternator bracket dangerously close to the belt.
  18. 17 inch dezents plus spax springs and shocks
  19. As usual with Corrados my headlights are very dim. Do i have to fit an uprated headlight loom or can i just fit uprated bulbs?
  20. When i bought my C the previous owner supplied me with a new handle but it doesn't fit. The two prong fork is short and the lever (bit that usually breaks) is longer. What car would it have been off?
  21. I've just taxed and insured it so it better not have anything serious wrong with it.......lol my other car is a Nissan 200sx and i have an RS3100 Capri in storage. I thought the Nissan parts were expensive but i can't believe how much more expensive the VW ones are. The Carrado was driven 40 miles back here when i bought it and about 10 miles since then ......it stills seems fairly pokey even though it isn't running right....so fingers crossed.
  22. I realy hope there isn't any damage to the valves. This car was advertised as mechanicaly sound!!! but then if the previous owner has been driving it around like this who knows. There doesn't seem to be any smoke from the exhaust at all which is some indication that things are not too bad. i'm not going to drive it untill this is resolved ....i'm in two minds to phone the garage that replaced the belt and give them a piece of my mind. I'm hearing too many horror stories about garages and cambelt replacements lately.
  23. I did notice last thing yesterday that when the engine is turning over the crank pulley looks as if it is wobbling. The power steering belt is also fraid and split. thank you for your support and words of wisdom. I'll let you know what i find at the weekend. Would really like to get it done sooner but work is hectic and the nights are drawing in. ah ....and i also found it strange that it's a twin cam engine but only has one cam pulley :?
  24. Ok ......with the cam and crank marks lined up the rotor in the dizzy also points to the tdc mark. Yesterday i did take out plug number 1 and put a rod down the hole ....cranked the engine over so that no.1 piston was at TDC....but when i looked at the dizzy rotor arm it was pointing 180 degrees the wrong way....i'll check again in the next few days Why is it possibe for the pulleys to slip though? Most engines have a flat point on the crank or cam so the pulleys can't spin or be put on the wrong way. Just emailed the previous owner and it seems the cambelt was changed 1000 miles ago by a garage in Chard. reckon i've bought a right lemon.
