Pretty sure the 16 valve tensioner is different to the 8 Valve one......Dealer will have the tensioner here for me Wednesday.......i guess the elbow will be here about the same time if they are working tomorrow. I think it would take longer to get here from Italy.....lol.......but many thanks for the offer. I'm just a bit cheesed off at the mo coz all i've done is fix things on the C since i got it ......it's not been very well cared for in the past hence i bought it cheap. The weather and time of year is another frustrating factor.

I better order one then .....already waiting for a cambelt tensioner.......this will be another week i won't get to drive the C again ......ah well

Thermal fuses do not have a great life span .......the older your motor gets the shorter the life span of the thermal resisitor will get. Changed mine a few weeks back and found someone had just soldered a link across the terminals rather than changing the fuse.

    Thermostat

when the elbow is bolted down (or rather up) to the housing it's quite evident that it's not mating entirely flush......looks to be warped......i did notice this before i took it all apart the first time.....would explain why it had sealant around the joint. Still can't see why they use plastic though.

    Thermostat

Could be .....it's quite tricky trying to hold it all in place upside down (although from what i could see it seemed to be in the right place).....i was wondering about using some sealant to hold the o'ring in place whilst reassembling.

    Thermostat

Well i've spent most the afternoon out in the drizzle fitting a new thermostat. Put everything back together....warmed the engine up.....coolant starts leaking out from under the car.....leaking from elbow. Took the whole thing apart again......can't see any problems apart from the elbow looks slightly deformed......put it all back together......hey presto it's still leaking. When i took it apart someone had applied a little sealant to the joint previously.......now it's dark so i've given up. Why on earth did they make the elbow from plastic? Looks like i may need to order a new one from VAG now.
  8. You're giving your C to your gilfriend !!!!!!? MUST BE LOVE
  9. Thanks for that .....thought the VAG parts chap was after his xmas bonus there for a minute
  10. Hi Gavin......thought you might be hovering around here somwhere. I've ordered from VAG ....after seeing the quality of the GSF ignition switch i removed the other week i think i'll play safe.......no disrespect to GSF
  11. Just spoke to my local VAG stealer and he's just quoted me £41 inc VAT for a cambelt tensioner. This is for a 1.8 KR 16 valve 1991......part number for the tensioner he gave me was 051109243. I thought from what i have read on here in the past that the tensioner was around the £20 mark.....did i remember wrong?
  12. My front splitter/spoiler is cracked both sides as well due to the fact that when i first bought it and drove it home i couldn't get over the speed bumps at one end of the road i live in......soon found that out. The splitter was also sprayed white the same colour as the car but looks awfull with all the beateings it has taken over the years. So i'm going to repair it and spray it black for low maintenance.
  13. GSF do a starter motor for £65 +Vat. depends what year your car is .....should take you about 20 to 30 mins to fit
  14. check your battery first ....symptoms can be very similar. Put you battery on charge for a day or so.....ignition switch won't help matters either
  15. Kinda glad i did decide to call it a day......coz now it's snowing
  16. Well i hoped to take advantage of this time off from work to get some more work done on the C but it's too damn cold to do anything today. So far this week i have been sorting out the bulbs that light up the heater controls and cigarette lighter and fitting a CD player and new speakers. Whilst doing so i came across a multitude of wires that had been cut by some kind sole who frankly didn't have a clue what they were doing. Today i planned to fit a new thermostat but after draining the cooling system and removing what was left of the old thermostat my poor pinkies are just about to drop off. Looking very grey in the sky....decided to quit before the snow arrives. Time to relax with a nice cuppa tea me thinks.
  17. ewww ....that's a different looking grill......can i have first refusal if you sell it please?
  18. nice shiney looking car .....not too sure about the exhaust....by the shape of it it looks like a Peco
  19. Yellow Corrado heading south on the North Devon link road today *wavey wavey*
  20. depends on what car stereo you have ....most will take 4 to 8 ohms these days. You may find just using the woofers sounds rather flat ....i'de recommend fitting the tweeters and if poss the crossover as well
  21. if you have an uprated headlight loom check that none of the spade connectors have come loose
  22. The rev counter tends to have fits when you have a flat battery as well
  23. I guess it must have something to do with the way that Corrados are wired up. My Nissan can sit for months and still start no problem. Mind you ....i don't suppose the fact that the Rad fan runs after the engine is turned off helps much either.
  24. Not used the C for a couple of weeks as i have been away. Yesterday i replaced the ignition switch....(not as difficult as i had anticipated).....then went to start the old girl and nothing. Seems the battery has gone dead on me now. Experience tells me it shouldn't go flat after just 2 weeks but i have read some other threads on here about poor battery life. input anyone?
