I thought they were €40 not £40 ?

They're alot cheaper on ebay.de if I remember rightly. It's also some of the same people selling them in Germany and the UK. So no excuse really.

4 wheel Alignment and rolling road near Southend
catch_twotwo replied to catch_twotwo's topic in Suppliers Forum
yeah I chatted to John Mowett but his RR doesn't give any printouts. Plus next weekend (21st) I'm in G-werks for a few tweaks ;) so no tuning required.. just after a few readouts for my own reference. -
Yep H8RRA you got trapped alright.... and they say it's about sefety. Yeah sure.... why hide the camera's then. A few years back they did until the rules where changed remember. At least now you have a chance to see it. ... and yes Craig he can spell better than me ;) I guess I should never think about my work and type. Dealing with a computer that breaks, is easier than dealing with brakes for me
-
Just for effect ;)

Guys.. this isn't about points. I too have none on my license. It's about the so called safety of them. You have to agree when you look at it just from that angle they don't do what it says on the tin.
-
Agreed. It's a people issue..... In Germany though, as I said, they target tailgaters more than speeders and get better results than we do here. Guess there's just not enough profit in targetting them in the UK though as it's costly to get the equipment and network running for it. Hence why we get the easy option of "$afety camera$" Even my dad puts on his breaks when he's sees a speed camera now and he's never drien over 30mph in his life  7 Camera's in 40 miles.... try the A13 flyover past Pitsea (IIRC) it has 4 in about 3/4 mile.... 1 before the bridge, 2 on it, and 1 after it. Only seen 1 accident on that bridge in the 10 years I've been driving past it. Very much an accident hotspot :-P
-
Well my license is clean as well... what I was trying to say was that if you slow down then the person behind you (who's probably looking at the camera/speedo/road angel thing) has more chance of hitting you than if it wasn't there at all. I don't blame them for catching me speeding (as they don't) I don't however think that they're put up for the purposes of safety entirely. I believe in 100% disclosure and the government believe in hiding everything behind a curtain of "It's in your best interest"
-
Well this is all well and good, except if you look around you'll see big sections of road with these signs where no speed camera's exist. It's the rule to have a sign within a few miles of a camera or speed trap. It's not the rule to ONLY have them in those locations. They use this warning signs too much and therefore make there warning obsolete. Kev... didn't you just get done saying... Now you say brake when you see one ? you can see peoples dilema here.... what do you do ? it's human conditioning.... If drivers didn't just break on instinct in a split second when prompted by visual stimulation, then we'd hit every stupid little kid that wants to run after his shiney red ball. It's an automatic reaction.
-
It's interesting to read that the government keep all profits from the camera's. It's the same as with fuel taxes, it's just another way of raping the general public for yet more money.
-
Point and case.
-
Exactly thanks for proving my point. If you went past a speed camera and had the kneee jerk braking reaction you'd be in the right. However you'd still be pissed when the ass behind you rams you and turns your lovely C into an insurance writeoff. If it wasn't for the speed camera then the only thing you'd have got was a bad driver behind you. I think from a personal standpoint that some of these speed camera's only change a possible accident blackspot into a more likely one. Eye's off the road, braking, loss of concentration. All these things we get told are likely to cuase accidents. So why make a situation where you cause them. If they weren't cash cows then they'd flash a warning sign as you approached reminding you of the speed limit like some of the signs around schools. As it is they make them grey (the colour of most of England) and sometimes even hide them around corners, or the bow of a hill etc. Sneeky eh... If the main reason for accidents is following too close then why not take the Germany view. They have much fewer speed camera's and alot more cameras that record your distance on a motorway or fast road. Seems to work better for them than it does for us.
-
It's not that I don't think they have a place... its that alot of them are JUST cashcows for the local police. This has been proven as I read a report somwhere about speed camera's in a certain area of the UK that are placed where there have been 0 accidents in the last 5 years. How can they claim this is an accident hotspot. (and yes the road was accident free for 5 years BEFORE the camera was installed)
-
I agree totally.... (both about the blondes topless and the cameras as well) What were we talking about again :?: oh yes, topless blondes. I've seen a few shunts caused by cameras... people see then and immediatly break as a knee jerk reaction. Then 2 seconds later the ass behind them in a lowered chav mobile (Corsa/Saxo take your pick) rear ends then quicker than he would the 6ft scandanavian blonde in full lingerie. Got to love the logic behind these things..... they make cash to pay for more to make more cash to pay for more.... Repeat as required until the world implodes.

4 wheel Alignment and rolling road near Southend
catch_twotwo replied to catch_twotwo's topic in Suppliers Forum
Well I found a place in Benfleet that will do the 4 wheel alignment for me..... Jet wheel & tyre on 10268 792272 incase anybody else is interested. There's also a place in Benfleet called Mowatt & co that have a rolling Road. Not a modern one though, so no printouts I'm afraid. £40 for a run at various rev bands though. Not sure if it's worth it though, as a printout would be alot nicer. -
Yeah a bit weak on the bass but nice quality units.....
-
They're mounted under the dash just below the tweater mountings I think..... not sure 100% though.
-
Actually mine are amped and sound fine. As long as they're on a low pass x-over then they'll be fine. Obviously if you pump lots of bass through them then they'd sound bad. For rear fill they'll be fine, but don't expect much out of them. If you're sitting in the back you'll love them I'm sure. It'll break up the boom for the boot... ;) IIRC the Alpine fronts came with a x-over and seperate tweaters that I've mounted in the dash to replace the ones that are supplied.
-
Ok I have the JBL GTO 6425E 4x6's the Alpine SXE-1350S up front. Had these fitted at a shop along with a new headunit and amp.... Certainly no currint was required as far as I'm aware.
-
Well I need to get my alignment done and was looking for 4 wheel alignment incase I need to look at problems in the rear (no curry jokes please) But I can't seem to find a decent place. The ones I've tried said it would be £60 just for a check and then doing the adjustments would b extra. That's just a bit OTT.... So anybody know a place around southend that does this reasonably ? Also I was after RRing my left hooker to get a better view of the performance. Anybody got any suggestions for a local place ? Thanks.... 8)
-
It's the bi front scoops that make me laugh  I'd trip over it every time I walked around the front of my car ;)
-
Well just remember that if you're spending money the headunit has to be what you spend it on really.... else no matter what speakers you get it'll sound really bad  Alpine are good but pricey... Kenwood are cheap all-rounders... Sony some people say are good, but others say a bit boomy...
-
Well the speaker sizes are IIRC Dash - 4" Front Door - 5.25" Rears - 4x6" From what I know there's no point in installing 4" speakers in the dash. These will be so bad quality that you'd be better going for a good set of 5.25" for the fronts and installing the tweaters in the dash for some high end fill. If you can amp the fronts then that's all the better depending on the output of your headunit. For the rears if you want to replace the 4x6 you can (I replaced mine for the JBL 4x6 and they sounds pretty good for what they are). However lots of people think this is just pointless so it's down to you. I only did it to add some rear fill and some high end fill for those in the back. Then it's your choice.... sub or 6x9s. If you go for both the pressure of the sub in the boot will throw off the 6x9s and make them sloppy. So it's probably one or the other. If you're not a basshead then a set of good quality amped 6x9s will probably do you proud. Something like Infinity or Alpine, but not the entry level ones. Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth. My Setup: - Alpine 9847 HU Alpine 5.25" front components (with tweaters in the dash) JBL 4x6 rear shelves 10" JBL sub-tube in the boot Lil' wonder 5 amp running 5 channels..... I find mine a little boomy in the back, so still needs some tweaking :D
-
Actually I never used the amp. It came with a sub tube I bought on eBay so was surplus to requirements. I've always had a good 5 channel Lil'wonder 5 amp.... nobodies heard of them usually but they really kick ass ;)
