Ok here's a few pics... The weather this morning is freezing so the car is all iced up on the pictures, making it look worse than it really is ;) honest.....
-
Yeah although for the lader rebuild, engine service and chip/pulley it's going to cost me more than the car did ? I'm not sure, but it just feels so wrong
-
Yeah I got it as close to redline as i could on the road... but after about 2500 the boost pressure sat at 1095 and never moved an inch all the way. Still, it needs an engine service so it's worth the trip anyway ;)
-
Hmm, so you'd change your entire cars look just so you could make the nasty chrome front grill look ok  I'd stick to just gettng a black one and colour coding it.
-
Wow.. funny how things happen... I had to beat the guy down from £1400 (I think that's where he started) so I think I got a good enough bargain. Would have had more choice if I didn't want a LHD....
-
Yeah I'll try and get some pics up before it heads to G-Werks Saturday..... I'll make some calls to a few locals about the spraying tomorrow then I guess. It's amazing how costs can spiral though >_
-
Yes... I guess that's the best bet... However with my knowledge of cars I'm likely to turn up (3 hour drive) and have him laugh his ass off as there is no charger installed  possible an embarassment I couldn't live down.......

Well the documentation on my G60 is a little thin on the ground (or in German as it's a left hooker) So for the more experienced amongst you, please can you give me a little advice on the standard alarm and immobiliser on the 1990 G60. I have documentation for a later install of a Sigma M800 immobiliser, but I also have a different system using a rather beaten up control. It has no markings other than two triangle buttons (one grey one blue) and a triangle style logo (sort of like the star trek ensignia for some reason  ) So.. is the control standard or some random edition. Whenever I press the buttons the controller flashes (and a LED in the car flashes) and does nothing at all..... so you can see my confusion  If only it would open the car I'd be happy.... as I have a different key for each door right now.... >_

Ok, so I've just picked up my 1990 G60 (only £850) but when I was doing the boost test I could only clock 1095 (exactly 1095 mind you... and it hit that at about 3000 rpm). Now according to the buyers guide this would mean the charger is off (or shot) However if that was the case I'd be expecting the car to run like a 2 legged dog... needless to say it doesn't and I had to make sure to remember to slow down as I hit 100 on the M25 on the way home, and it got there quick as well. So am I doing the test wrong (read and reread the doco at least 4 times) or is there something else I'm missing here ? I guess the nice folks at g-werks will tell me on Saturday anyway... but I'm a curious fellow

Ok so I finally got down to East Grinstead and parted with £850 for a Black 1990 G60... That's the good news... the bad news is long, but the thing I'm wondering about right now is the rust removal (and the removal of a nasty looking clear stip on the bonet... at least it was clear 15 years back I guess) So here's the question... Am I best to do the rust repair myself (rub down, treat and respray) although I've never sprayed anything before in my life and would hate to make it look worse... or... do you think it's worth getting somebody else to do the spraying. If so does anybody know a place that won't bite my arm off if I say the word spray... we're only talking a few areas really, but enough to make me concerned. I'm in the Southend-on-Sea area.....

just a few things I've found when calling around.... Liverpool and Victoria - Won't touch modified cars (company policy) Elephant.co.uk - Cheap but say the words mod and after they've got all confused they stick you with a £250 addition to the price for having it anywhere near 200bhp Adrian Flux - What can I say.... cheap, friendly and they knew the mods before I even told them ;) Brentacre - Same as Adrian Flux, although they couldn't quite beat the price for 3rd party.... good on fully comp though quinn Direct - Cheaper than Adrian by a good £50, but they insist on an engineers report from the car to insure it if modded. I doubt the hassle of that is worth the while honestly... Looks like Adrian Flux get the thumbs up again... and only £20 more for it being a left hooker, which in my book is good. Elephant put on about £50 I seem to remember ;)

Fifth Gear Unleaded/Super Unleaded Experiment

Watching as we speak... need to know these sort of things ;) -
This is getting surreal and more than a little scary.... Good news is that surely there can't be many horse jokes left to go through.
-
If you put in a SNS chip do you still have to advise the insurance company. They don't seem to have an entry for a replacement chip that doesn't increase the overall BHP.... Elephant.co.uk seem to want to get every penny out of you for things like that.... must look elsewhere I think >_
-
Can you buy them as a set ?

Good question.... I usually avoid 5th gear, but this item sounds interesting. -
Well I can't head down to g-werks for the works as it will take too long for Saturday opening hours. I'd rather not drive it about without the lader rebuild but there's nowhere close to home (Southend) or close to the purchase area (East Grinstead) that can do the job.... I love it when a plan falls appart O.o'
-
I've got a deal with the guy for £900 cash... so looks like we're a go. I'm hoping to head straight down down to g-werks for the once over (engine service and lader rebuild) So I hope it all goes well... if not then I've spent a pile of cash on nothing. Wish me luck
-
Well I've emailed G-werks for a guide price on that.... I guess Corrado on a budget might be too much to hope for
-
Well it's had 2 previous owners, not sure about how they've driven it though. All I know is there is a receipt for the charger overhaul from Jabba sports. so it's not been mistreated and ignored it seems. However just chased the guy up and the charger last had the overhaul 50,000 miles back. so it's overdue for another... That's another £500 right ? and i have to learn how to strip it out to ship it I guess.
-
I'm not sure that's the case with the whole lot. It might just be because the cars he's importing don't show MPH on the speedo at all.
-
Well I hope that's the case.... As if so then it'll only have done 118,000 miles. If it really has done over 190,000 miles though, that's over 305,000 km and a big number
-
Thanks for the link to the VR6, I've seen the advert before... It's just about 4 times my budget ;) Well according to the salesman it's in miles, but the speedo is in KMPH, whish for me seems strange, but I'm not gonna tell him that incase he says "wow £1750 then" My brother in law bought a car that was a Japanese import and got lucky on that. He bought it as a high mileage and then found it was in Km and not Miles.... maybe i'll get lucky on that.
-
Yeah I was thinking it's average, but what is average nowadays.... I know my Merc's done 42,000 in 5 years and it seems like the average is dropping. Or maybe that's just an illusion. Thanks for the comments.... If anybody wants a free lunch then the car's in East Grinstead ;)
