Cheers Gav, that's a bloody good point mate, I'll do it that way around and see if I can spot anything untoward before having to get a new head gasket as I've already got a spare sump gasket kicking around (don't ask! ;) ) I'll let you know about the rods and bolts, but the crank would be no use as I'm using a non-G60 crank to get to 1940cc... ;) G60Jet, it's already got a baffle in there... ;)

....or 64 when used with a G60's final drive.... ;)

Yup... and you lot wouldn't have it any other way! ;) Seriously though, get some pics up... That comment I left possibly sounded bitchy, but wasn't meant that way at all, so sorry if any offence was taken by it... 8) I'm with Jim in that I'd like to see photos of all of the members cars, it's only by seeing what little touches that people have done that you get ideas for other little mods you can do yourself.... 8)

ANYTHING is possible with the correct application of either high explosives or gaffa tape.... Oops, hang on a second, wrong forum... you'd have to measure it up and see if it'd fit... odds are that it'd stick outta the back of the car if you used the 911 gearbox so you'd have to do something wierd like make it front wheel drive... :| Personally, I'd just slap a turbo onto a VR6 and put some serious cash into the internals of the VR to make it a proper Porsche killer rather than trying to fit a porsche engine to a Corrado... ;) 8) good luck for if you give it a go though... 8)

it felt like a small boost leak, so only a little dip in performance... I dipped the clutch as I was pulling off the road anyway and the engine stalled... I then stopped and had a look around the engine but couldn't see anything (that's paranoia for ya! ;) ) so tried to start it... she just turned over normally for a few seconds but didn't fire, so I whipped off the cam belt cover to check the belt hadn't jumped or anything daft, but all was well... tried it again and it fired up perfectly but with the knocking rattle... :| I've not driven it since 'cos the last thing I need is for whatever it is to let go completely and write off the block... :? Head and sump are coming off tomorrow and the pistons and rods will be taken out to have a looksee... :| that'll show what the problem is at least....

actually dr_mat, I'd be interested to see a thread about your car with photos.... from the amount of negative comments about Corrados you've made recently, I'm assuming that you've had to have just about all of the mechanical bits on the car replaced and I'd be interested to see photos of how it looks now... 8) See, someone gives a sh!t... ;)

Erm, My car has changed a fair old amount in the last year or so, probably as much as yours has, if not more.... You'll find that I've only got one thread about my car AND that it's one of the most viewed and active threads on the forum... It makes it much simpler if you keep all of your different bits in one thread so that people can see the progression of what you've done to your car rather than just getting fragmented views of single items....

yes, several thanks... taking 'em with me wouldn't be a holiday would it? I work with computers and electronics all day, I want to escape for a week, catch some sun (yeah, like that's gonna happen!) catch some waves and just chill out for a while...
-
broken wire to the gauge or a dead lambda sensor...
-
sheesh, I have one day where I can't get to the computer 'cos I'm busy at work, and you lot all notice... :| What the hell are you gonna do next week when I'm on holiday nowhere near a PC for the week?!?

sorry, been working away from the office today and have only just got home... :| the engine was ALL new... 1H block with new internals including bearings, crank, con-rods, pistons, rings (duh!) seals, gaskets, pumps (both oil and water) and bolts... the head was rebuilt just before the crank bolt sheared off (which was the catalyst for this rebuild) but was rebuilt again anyway as there was the possibility of damage from pistons hitting valves. All new tappets were fitted too... the only bit of the engine which remained untouched was the cam, although that was checked for wear, and the cam caps were checked to make sure they weren't worn and were within tollerance... I did not cut ANY corners with this rebuild and nothing was left unchanged or checked.... The engine has 7K miles on her at the moment. The problem is DEFINATELY not the bottom end bearings, you can hear that the noise is at the top end of the block around cylinders 3 and 4... when it first went I thought it was the charger having blown, but I've checked it out and that's fine, as is the alternator and the noise is at the other end of the engine anyway... Oil pressure is still good, and it's not used any oil or water (my autometer gauges sender was finally fitted rather rapidly last night!...  ) Trust me when I say it's not the cam followers... it sounds like something inside has broken... possibly a little end bearing or a piston or pin itself... :( I'll let you know when I find out what it is... the head's coming off Friday night, along with the sump and the pistons and rods will be removed on Saturday morning... :| Thanks for all the ideas though, keep 'em coming... 8)

you won't need to get the block skimmed... it's cast iron and if you've warped that then it'll be dead for good! :|

Well, I've just been out and ripped off the cam cover to have a look see what's going on... fuctifino what's wrong with it... :? Cam is OK, cam caps are all OK and tightened correctly (even checked 'em for Torque...) Ran it briefly without the cam cover off and it all looked OK but still sounded dreadfull (louder 'cos no cover on this time) Definately getting oil up there too... Took the plugs out and all 4 pistons look the same, nice and uniform colour, no dents or shiney bits etc... even the plugs look a nice uniform colour too... :| Any ideas? Think I'm gonna get a set of followers tomorrow and sling 'em in just to see if it makes any difference... otherwise it's a head and sump off job to get at the pistons.... :(

It's got one... Fastpurple.net

Unfortunatly it looks like this isn't gonna happen for a while... I've just broken somthing in the engine which may or may not require a rebuild... I'll find out soon... :| :(
-
...coming from between 3 and 4... I was driving home reasonably quickly when I felt a slight judder, slowed down to pull off the road to go to Tescos when she felt "flat", dipped the clutch and she stalled.... She's not used any oil or water and still starts first turn of the key, she's also spot on with cam timing so it's not jumped a tooth or anything like that... Idle is sweet and stable, just noisy, supercharger and alternator are fine... Anyone got any thoughts on what it could be? (just fishing for ideas before I start taking her apart again... :| )

Don't forget Jim, you were thrashing the nuts off your motor at Brunters in the rain/wet and there were some pretty big stretches of water on that straight which you were going through at 120MPH+ ! Even if you had just a tiny rip in one of the engine bay gromets, you'd get quite a bit of water coming in during that! ;)

I'm gonna have to put a clip of my motor on here... lets hear you call THAT a wasp... ;)
-
yup, another vote for RPM here too... and I live 250+ miles from them! 8) They did my flywheel as well as a load of other bits which I got done via JMRacing (16VG60) as he has a very good relationship with them... 8)
-
with ya there Matt.. Balancing of the flywheel may not take a lot to do, but I'd say it was essential 'cos if it breaks loose due to vibrations, you're REALLY gonna know about it!

Whats the highest ouput (BHP) you can get out of a g60?????
Henny replied to doof's topic in Engine Bay
I paid Vince to do it... ;) I don't do gearboxes, they scare me too much 'cos there's so many small moving parts in there which are too easy to screw up for my liking!   -

yeah, true dr_mat, the bottom end bearings do take the brunt of it and so do wear, but that tends to be when the car's got some fairly big milage on it (most other makes of car need a damn site more than a set of shells at 100K miles + !) With the cost of the shells being well under £100 for genuine VAG ones, and it only being a couple of hours job to do, I don't count this as a big flaw to modding a G60 engine... 8) The only holed pistons I've heard of on G60s are due to dead sensors and crap fuelling, not power output related problems... -
don't forget that the dash gauge is pants.... It really shouldn't have numbers on it as they are a mile out... IMHO the gauge should read: Cold, Normal, Hot, STOP NOW!!!! The switch is in the bottom back of the radiator next to the battery, it's a bit 22mm (I think) brass nut looking thing with a 3 pin electrical connector on it.... Have a look HERE for a pic and the part numbers... 8)

doof, 0-60 times on a G60 are seriously hampered by a crap 2nd gear meaning you need 3rd to hit 60... I got my gearbox rebuilt using a VR6 1st and 2nd gear so that 2nd is longer (hits about 64 now) so managed a measured 7.02 seconds 0-60 in the wet at Bruntingthorpe yesterday... I could probably get it a bit quicker in the dry now that I know how my car handles and reacts a little better now... 8) A normal G60 box would have added on 1 or 2 seconds to that time... :|
