I've got a lightened and balanced flywheel in my G60... it improves the spin up time of the engine quite a bit which makes her quicker rising through the revs and very quick to drop revs as you change gear... adds quite a bit to the engine braking effect too... 8)

Whats the highest ouput (BHP) you can get out of a g60?????
Henny replied to doof's topic in Engine Bay
the question in reply to this one is "how reliable do you want the car to be?" If you stick a REALLY small pulley on it, you can get huge BHP figures out of an otherwise standard engine, but it won't last very long before either needing a rebuild or simply blowing up the charger.... :| I got 219.5BHP with 199.8LbFt outta my G60 at the rolling road session at Stealth recently, although I found out this weekend that those figures were with the cam 1 tooth retarded... Now that's sorted I can FEEL the difference when driving the car (so did Jim! ;) ) so I have no idea what kinda power it's kicking out now, but it's definately more than that! 8) I know Struan (BigeastsideG60) got 240ish BHP outta his G60 with around 190LbFt torque not too long ago, and Daz (G-man) got 213BHP with 236LbFt torque just with some charger work on a standard engine! That's a whole shed load of the twisty stuff from a standard engine... 8) -
The fan switch trigger temps are 95/84 and 102/91 according to Etka... that's on/off temps in degrees C. 8)

yeah, yeah, so I made a mistake...

couldn't tell you on that one, sorry... I cheated when it came to that side of things and just bought a VW designed cooler which had been made specifically for the G60 (Ie. a Golf G60 one! ;) ) made life a hell of a lot simpler.... Have a browse around on Google and see what other people using T25s use... ;) 8)

Fantastic day out, and Elliot seemed to be a top bloke to me too... he even let me store my tools and stuff in their cars while I thrashed the nuts off my car (literally as it turns out! ) Actually, I am quite glad the weather was damp as I now know exactly where the "OH FU......." point is after giving it a bit too much out of the corner before the main straight and getting VERY out of shape... happily without anyone else seeing or loosing it completely 'cos there's soooo much space it doesn't really matter! 8) Now I've got my exhaust sorted out again after managing to get it to blow while attempting to break my previous 139.8mph speed down the straight I'm happy again... Turns out that the downpipe nuts I'd got from a local place weren't up to the job (one had melted, and another 2 were just missing! :| ) so a quick trip to ATS on the way home with a quick £5 backhander meant I got to drive home thinking things seemed very slow but nice and quiet... oh, and my 7.02 second 0-60 made me rather happy too.... especially 'cos it was WET! :D 8) I've got a load of pics and vids, but at Elliots request, I won't post 'em until the mag is out... Only fair really seeing as they paid for the whole thing and provided all the timing gear! 8)

I went with all new VAG water hoses on my G60 purely for the fact that they fit properly and they'd been on there for the best part of 200,000 miles anyway, so why do I need to "upgrade" to silicone?!? I've upgraded the BOOST hoses to silicone now after I burst a rubber one though... ;)

with all engines, the key to good power is good flow... Your ideal intercooler will have as good a flow through it as possible depending on where you mount it... The ideal would be straight out of the turbo into the intercooler (which would be in a nice placement where it will get lots of nice cool air through it) and then straight into the throttle... Obviously this isn't possible on a Corrado due to space restrictions and layout of the enginebay, so you need to compromise... If you can get as few bends as possible and make the ones you do have to have as smooth as possible, then you're gonna get a good set up... 8) Hope this makes sense...

I've got the Bosch refurb one from GSF on my G60 now and it's spot on... The G60 one has a different part number from any of the other models, but I don't know what the difference is.... :|

They have a reputation that's soooooo good too! :D They did all the machining and a large chunk of the gasflowing and porting (including head rebuild) on my G60 and I've been nothing but impressed by their work... 8)

Well, I can confirm that I had at least one boost leak, an exhaust leak (from the gasket I thought it was) AND the car WAS a tooth out on the cam... I can safely say by the scared look on Dubwhizz's face that she's a good bit quicker now! :D 8) Need a rolling road session now to see what kinda figures she's putting out now! :D 8)

 :D :D :D That's what it's all about alright... the grin factor! :D :D :D :D 8) 8) 8) I'm sooo happy that you've got this Corrado back on the road.... it's nice to see someone getting in there and putting one back together and not just taking the easy option of breaking it... 8) I've the utmost respect for ya! :) 8) Hope you keep on enjoying! :D

Oi! Rodders! sort your sig out, it's bigger than most of your posts! :| (The Porsche looks nice by the way... 8) )

yeah, the wheels DO look different, but the sticker and reflections in the paint work are similar enough to make me think that this IS one mental car! :| 8)

oops, you beat me to it as I edited that last post... Sorry I have no idea on labour costs as I've always done the work myself... :|

It kinda works the other way around with suspension Russ... Pick a price and then see what's the best in that range for what you want... ;) 8) You can spend silly money on suspension and get a set up that most people will hate but a few will rave about, similar amounts and nearly everyone will like it, or spend not a lot and get a setup which NO ONE will like! It's all a question of price and what you want out of the car... 8)

From memory, A good rebuild on a 1.8 16V should include: Block work new piston rings new bearings (all of 'em! ;) big end, crank, top end if possible ) bore hohning (dunno how it's spelt but you get the idea! ;) ) steam cleaning of all internal components all new gaskets (see below) Head work Cleanup (ie. de-coking) new valve guides new/re-cut valve seats new valve seats possible LIGHT skim if needed (although you should try to avoid this if possible as it may cause pinking afterwards) new tappets (this will hurt cost wise as there are 16 of the buggers... :( ) Gaskets Sump Gasket Head set (easier to buy as a set than mess about getting individually! ;) ) Block set (again easier and should include: water flanges, rocker cover seal, waterpump to block seal, oil filter head to block seal, oil breather seal (may need a puller to be able to change this one) and both crank seals ) Other bits New oil pump New (complete) water pump (it's only £25, don't scrimp! ;) ) New themostat New oil cooler (don't miss this one out, it'll cost you BIG time if it fails! :( ) New sump if there is ANY sign of rust inside the original... New head flanges (the black plastic coolant bits...these WILL break/leak if you use them again1 ;) ) This may sound a lot, and look like it costs a lot, but it's all pretty cheap and is all pretty easy to do at home (I know, I've done it! ;) ) It'll mean that you end up with a pretty much standard as new 16V KR engine which should easily be good for another 75K+ miles! :) Not bad for a few hundred quid and a weekend or twos work!!! :D 8) I don't know the "with labour" costs as I've always done the work to my cars myself... 8) If you're doing it yourself (and it's not too difficult! ;) ) my biggest tip is to get hold of a MKII Golf or Passat 88-91 Haynes manual which has ALL the details, torques, settings, instructions etc etc etc in it that you'll need! 8) I reckon that Passat Haynes saved me a good £500 to £1000 in rebuilding my first Corrado's engine! :D 8)

Deffo adjustment... something mine desperately needs having done! I get similar problems on my G60... It's soooo simple to fix, but you really need the correct tool to set it all up which I don't have... :( All you need to do is remove the counterweight, undo 2 13mm nuts, stick on the setting tool and tighten the nuts.... it's that simple.... but if you don't have the tool it's a real pain in the ass to get it set properly... :| If ANYONE can get hold of one of these tools for a few days, I can get it copied and then sell the copies to forum members at a GOOD price... lemme know! ;) :D

I've got 16x7.5J Borbet Cs and the speedo is almost spot on with 205 45 16 tyres on... 8)

make sure they're under 1024x768 in size... ;) -
ooh, the to-do list... where do I start.... :| she's due for her "stick her up on ramps and check every bolt is tight" session next weekend Still gotta fit the senders for my oil pressure and temp gauges she's due a service next weekend getting due for some front tyres soon sort the ABS (this has needed doing for over 12 months now!  ) relocate the tweeters into the custom door pods replace the sun-visors (old ones are knackered) refit the drivers side lower dash (been doing some wiring which I need to finish too! ;) ) Oh, and get the bodywork sorted out... Not that much left to do really! :D

yup, you defintately stripped that! 8) Nice one! you going for the same colour again or something different?

I've just fitted the new boost pipes..... well almost... :| The main intercooler to throttlebody ali pipe is too long for using in a Corrado 'cos it was designed to go into a Golf, so I need to trim it down an inch or so to make it fit nicely... I'll get a mate of mine to roll the end properly in the morning so that it makes a good seal and doesn't keep blowing the hose off the end and then it'll be sorted, but I'm not gonna start hacksawing stuff at 1:45 AM! here's some pics to keep ya going anyway... rest will be up tomorrow when I've fitted the new exhaust gasket and got the new pipe fitted... 8)

bump starts but won't start off the key? I'd say ignition switch was probably at fault... There's a LOT of threads about it on here, do a search and you'll find lots of tests and things to see if it is or not... There's a guide to fitting a new switch in the how to section... Good news is that if it's the switch it should only take you 30 to 45 minutes and only costs about £25... 8)
