  1. I'll find that put tomorrow when I get the exhaust sorted Jim... She sounds like an American muscle car dragster at the moment due to both flexies on the cats blowing! Awesome V8 rumble, and with a 6,800RPM, she just sounds plain evil (and VERY loud!) when giving it some at the moment!!! The LPG means an equivalent running cost to low to mid 40mpg petrol on a run, and high 30s around town... I wouldn't have even looked at it if it didn't have the conversion already done though! ;) 8)
  2. to be honest, I'm not 100% sure... I think it's a Koni setup (not coilover) but I've never really investigated...
  3. Just seen you've sold yours too, Gareth... Hope you stay around the VAG scene though and that whatever you end up with next brings you as much fun... 8) With any luck we'll meet up at a show sometime in the future... 8)
  4. Well, I've admitted defeat and have put my Corrado up for sale, as well as my B5 Passat estate... I've realised that I'm not going to get chance in the next few years to sort out my Corrado properly, and I can't bear to see it slowly rotting away on my driveway, so this was the sensible thing to do.... It's the end of an era really, I got my first Corrado back in June '98 and then only had 20 months without owning one since then when I bought my first house! :( So, I've gone and bought something to replace both cars in one; big, practical, fast and powerful car... She's a 4x4 estate, with full electric memory leather seats and factory fitted Sat-Nav........ 8) ...oh, and a 300BHP, 4.2litre V8 under the bonnet!!! :D Yup, I've gone and bought a late 2001, Irish Green, 96000 mile, Audi A6 Quattro Avant V8... I picked it up a couple of weeks ago, and before anyone says anything about fuel costs, she'd already been LPG converted and is working out to be a rather similar cost to feed as my Passat 1.9TDI was! Weirdly, the insurance was only £50 more than I paid last year on the Passat! :cuckoo: She had a few little niggles to sort out, but for the price I paid for her, I couldn't even have bought the LPG conversion, so I can't grumble!;) Anyway, here's a few pics from when I picked her up... more to follow when I get my arse in gear and take some!! ;)
  5. loving that pic Gareth... :) She stands out sooo well against the background boringness of modern cars...
  6. Great work James... 8) I'm dreading starting work on my G60's restoration/reincarnation when I finally get around to it... it's already been sat for 6 years, and it's likely to be a while yet before I get the funds and time to put her back onto the road again... :|
  7. oooh, they're sweet... Been looking to do something like that for years, so will keep an eye out in case there's another group buy... 8)
  8. oooh, nice... I love the 2.0 TFSI engine too... the missus' A3 cabrio has one in it, and it still makes me smile like a loon when you boot it... Big fan of the Occys, my parents have just bought one (1.6Tdi?!) and it seems to be a nicely put together, well thought through car... Looks like you got the best colour too... :)
  9. I know my 'rado was very, very stable at 140mph at Bruntingthorpe, but it's good to know it'd be good for a few more MPH should a new engine have the grunt to get it up there... Wonder if anyone's ever got one over 200mph? :)
  10. holy mother of god.... 182mph? Both speedo and rev counter off the end of the scales? I NEED to get my 'rado back on the road with something a bit more crazy in it again! Inspiring car you have there matey, utter respect... 8) (or should that be nutter?!)
  11. Having followed you from the M56 into Wilmslow and under the Manchester airport runway bridges on the way home tonight (yeah, it was me in the dirty silver B5 Passat estate that waved at you as you turned off!) I can confirm that this car LOOKS and SOUNDS spot on! 8) It sits just right and looks completely planted around the corners... Good work Jay, brightened up my evening somewhat seeing a nice Corrado on the road, even more so when I recognised the plate and realised it was yours! 8)

    Windscreen wanted

Cheers for the advice, Ed21... much appreciated... :)

    Windscreen wanted

A mate works for a windscreen company, he said he can get me one at cost price + a few beers... Cheers Ed21, I'd heard they were a bit of a pig to do, and having seen the state of the area around the windscreen on my C, that's why I'm after a spare 'cos I'm not confident mine'll come out in one piece due to the amount of sealant/gluethey've squirted in all directions... not to mention the damage to the paint behind the seal, which is how the tin-worms have gotten in... :( I've done a few in the past on other cars (admittedly, never on a 'rado) so I'm reasonably confident in doing it, and I reckon that having lots of time (and no pressure having anybody breathing down my neck wanting to have their car back!) I should be able to get one out intact and then get it sealed nicely into my 'rado once I've sorted out the tin-worm... :)

    Windscreen wanted

I'm in need of a windscreen for my 'rado as mine's chipped and I don't think it'll go back in once I've removed it to sort out some tin-worm along the front edge of the roof... :( Seeing as it's not been on the road for over 5 years now, there's no way I can get one through the insurance! I've got the tools to remove a windscreen from a car that's going for scrap, but just need to find a reasonable condition screen in a car that's being scrapped... However, there are two conditions.... 1) It must be CHEAP! I'm not being tight, but given that I can get a new windscreen for under £150, if it's a second hand one (that I'll be removing!) I don't really wanting to be paying much for it! I know most people scrap the screen with the shell (I did with the two I've scrapped over the years) as they're not something most people take out, so you'd be getting some money for something you'd normally be throwing away! ;) 2) It must be within a 45ish mile radius of CW12 1SB (Congleton) 'cos I'm also time-poor these days due to the recent arrival of our first baby (also part of the reason it must be cheap! ;) ) I'm also in no rush to get this done, and can probably work around you in terms of coming and removing it... :) So, what's anyone got? :)
  15. well, it's over 9 months since I last updated this thread, so... H-YYU hasn't moved under her own power for over 5 years now, but I've been keeping her clean and making sure that she doesn't deteriorate badly while she's sat on my drive... Plan was to put a new engine in her this year, but something cropped up and put a stop to that... Meet Zac! Born 03/12/2011 (Full name: Zachary David) 8) Obviously, Zac's going to be taking most of my spare time and effort (and probably cash!) over the next few years, but I'm still looking into various options to get H-YYU back on the road again, even down to getting a standard G60 engine/box just to get her back into use once more... I'll keep updating as/when things happen... 8)

"if it ain't on the list, I ain't got it..." nope, sorry...
  17. the wires run up the centre of the drivers side spoiler mount and then drop down through the mechanism drain hole I mentioned before. They then have a loop to allow for the movement before connecting onto the original earth point and wiper motor wire. The wiper motor wire is broken under the head lining so that I could attach to it, and then a new piece of wire is fed down behind the C-pillar trim into the boot to the lights wiring to take a brake light live feed... Pretty simple to wire up to be honest... I seem to remember I originally wired it up while hung-over on the Sunday at Edition38, back in 2005 just to demonstrate it, and have only had to neaten it up a bit since...
  18. Waaaaaayyyyy back when I first got my first Corrado (1998!) there was an article in The Sprinter magazine which told how to fit a brake light from a Rover 220 Coupe which sits at the top of the rear windscreen... Required only pretty simple modifications to get it to fit too, and was pretty cheap, although I'd guess since Rover went POP, that the only place you'd get 'em now are scrap yards... I decided to go a slightly different route with my third brake light and fitted 21 hi-intensity 5mm LEDs into the spoiler... Each one has an individual resistor (overkill, but hey, what the hell!) and the hole for each was drilled to allow a 5mm gap between each LED. It was also drilled at a very specific angle to allow the rather narrow beam that these LEDs produce. To work out the angle, I measured the angles that the top face of the spoiler sat at compared with horizontal both in lowered and raised positions, then I knew how much the angle changed, so I could make sure that the beam of the LEDs (I think the ones I had only had a beam width of 21degrees!) would point backwards and slightly up at any point in the spoilers movement so that the LEDs would be visible to any cars behind without changing intensity no matter what position the spoiler was in, or even if it was moving... The end result was pretty good, and was helped by my having used clear LEDs and my car being Pearl Grey so they kind of disappear into the colour of the spoiler when not lit... 8) To wire it in, I used the earth point in the boot as mentioned in this thread, and one of the wires for the wiper motor, as I had mine removed and blanked off when I had the bodywork sorted out... Getting the wires up to the spoiler proved easier than I thought, and I simply enlarged the drain holes in the bottom of the mechanism to get two thin wires up (they don't need to be big as they're only powering LEDs!) and then once it was all connected, I put silicone sealant across the back of the spoiler to seal it all in and make it water tight...

Alex_G60_Fanatic, call it £3.50 P&P? Lemme know if that's OK, and I'll PM you payment details... :) Sam.I, the motor is just a motor... if your roof isn't sliding, but is tilting both up and down, then it's probably the mechanism that's broken, not the motor, as the motor is obviously working in both directions to lift and lower the tilt.... There's a rather good guide on the forum somewhere that will show you how to repair this... I'll sell you the motor if you want, but I'm pretty sure you'd be wasting your money... 8) However, to test the sunroof motor is a doddle... flick out the interior light and undo the 2 screws underneath it which hold the housing up to the roof. Under it you'll see the sunroof motor, and it's held onto the mechanism by 2 large screws. Make sure you have the sunroof in the closed position before you remove the motor if you're going to swap it over, else you'll struggle to get it lined up again if you're swapping the motor. Once you've removed the motor, you can test it by simply plugging it back into the wiring without it connected to the mechanism. It should spin for a while and then stop when you press the button to raise the roof. It should then spin for a while and then stop when you press to lower the roof. If you then press and hold the lower button again, it should spin for quite a while as it would do while sliding the roof back, and then stop on it's own. Once it thinks it's opened the roof fully, you can press the raise button again and it should spin the motor as it would try to close the roof, and then stop back at the fully closed position. If your motor successfully does this, then it's the roof mechanism that's borked and needs repairing, not the motor. If it doesn't, then get back to me and I'll sell you the one I have which does do all of the above! 8)
