  1. 83.5mm bore? Woah, that's getting close to the limit there Sam... :| Good luck! 8)
  2. I've run both the Mintex and the Ferrodo pads... Didn't like the Ferrodo ones at all until I tried 'em on a differnt set of disks and they worked (and still are working!) really well... I've always been a fan of the Mintex 1144 pads, just make sure you bed 'em in EXACTLY as per the instructions on the website and they'll be excellent... :) Which is best? Dunno... both about the same with a disk that compliments 'em... :|
  3. the problem with BHP and torque figures are that they don't give an accurate representation of the car... :| As previously said, it's the area under the graph (either BHP or Torque) that's important, not the height it peaks at, and even then, it's seriously difficult to quantify and compare 2 engines for performance from just a pair of graphs 'cos the gearing then comes into it along with a whole bunch of other factors... Basically a car is only as quick as it is... numbers don't make a fast car, the whole package needs to be right to do that... ;)
  4. ask Steve Mac about the Merc VITO one... I dunno how he got on with it, but it sounded like a bit of a bargain and well up to the job... ;)
  5. it's DEFINATELY the switch in that case... all the barrel does is lock the steering column and turn the switch... 8)

    G60 Gearbox

you don't change the G60 final drive... ;) The reason you do the 1st and reverse as well is 'cos the shaft that's got 2nd gear on it also has 1st and reverse built in and cannot be split... If he's got a VR main shaft, then it'll have the correct ratios on it... can't help with teeth numbers or the like, Vince dealt with all that lot, I just supplied him (via PhatVR6) a VR box to split and put bits in my G60 box.... 8)
  7. having owned a 260K mile G60, (J-DUB) I'd say it's probably worth £1200 absolute top if the body and interior are MINT and the engine and charger are showing no sights of imminent expiration... Take off the cost of tyres (£300ish) a charger rebuild (£300 ish) and a few other odds and sods, and yeah, your £750 probably isn't far off... 8)
  8. Thought I'd better put up a thanks to G-Man (again!) for the toothed belts and tensioner that he sent me yesterday... Hopefully that'll stop H-YYU eating belts!
  9. The question then becomes: How do you define a "qualified mechanic"... I've got a BEng (Hons) degree in Mechatronics and am eligable to add MIEEE, MIEMechE and MBCS after my name too if I could be arsed to pay the relevent institutions money every year, but I'd never claim to be half as good a mechanic as a couple of my mates who do it day in and day out with only GCSE and City and Guild qualifications to their names... On the other hand, I'm a shed load better than some of these "specialists" that are advertised in some papers and magazines... /not-blowing-own-trumpet I do agree though that the cost of motoring in this country is just excessive and getting sillier... I wouldn't mind as much if the public transport system was up to any kind of usable form, but as it is, it cost me more than double my normal petrol cost (and that's in a somewhat highly tuned G60!) to get to work this morning on the train... :|
  10. Size isn't everything though.... you need to make sure that it's not going to screw up the air flow by making the air have to go through too many restrictions or turns to get from the blower to the inlet manifold... having tight turns just to add 2 or 3 cms to the length of the intercooler could well cause you a loss in power due simply to the extra restriction of the turns... Also make sure that the inlet and outlet sizes of the intercooler aren't smaller than either your inlet (throttlebody or manifold depending on if your throttle is pre or post intercooler) or the outlet from the charger...
  11. Red VR6 parked in the Gmex carpark near the tram stop... was on the tram so you wouldn't have seen me... oh, and the fact the car was parked up!
  12. woody, you called? Either the Rallye or G60 intercooler are THE best fitting for a Corrado front end, as essentially, VW designed 'em for the job! However, if they're suitable or not depends on what it is you're using them for and with... If I were in your place Lee (which I'll never be 'cos I can't be arsed with polishing things unless they're to make the car faster! ) I'd get hold of a dead radiator from a MKII golf (or similar) and cut the lugs off the bottom which do the locating onto the lower rad support panel - don't lose the rubber ring, they're important to stop rattles!. You can then attach them to pretty much any intercooler you want to fit into the space up front meaning that the cooler will just sit into the mounting holes already on the car and with a pair of simple brackets, (which'd be easy to chrome! ;) ) can be mounted to the leading face of the radiator in the same way that the fan shroud fits to the trailing face... I've attached an edited photo of your new panel... the red circled holes are where the rallye/golf G60 intercooler mounts and the blue one is where the outlet on the intercooler hooks into to keep it stood upright... 8)
  13. JBL are part of the same company as Infinity... ;) Keep an eye out on ebay for MB Quart components too... I took a bit of a gamble with H-YYU and bought a set and they've been excellent... every bit as good as the JBLs that are in J-DUB... 8)
  14. good to hear you got it sorted... 8) locked as requested...

    Brighter Lights??

yup... if both main filaments were on when main beam was on, then the bulb would only last a matter of minutes before it burnt out...
  16. 20%?!? oops... think my car may have missed that target a few times over then...
  17. I'm with Baz.... Turbo the valver lump and get some proper power... 8) I find it really interesting to note that VW are dumping their 20VT range and going back to 16V 'cos they can get the heads to flow better... makes me wonder what can be done to the KR engine that's currently sat in my parent's garage... ;)
  18. OK, take a good long look at my Corrado's G60 engine... Most of you know it's not standard (far from it!) but if I changed the two charger hoses back to the original golf plastic ones (or powdercoated the metal ones in crinkle black finish... ;) ) how would anyone tell that it's not standard from just looking at it? (other than the oil cooler) Does anyone seriously believe that the government would think that they'd be able to strip every car down to list every modification?!? Most of the legislation that's being discussed at the moment is to stop the muppets who are putting huge spoilers on their cars, body kits that make their cars downright deadly to pedestrians in the event of a minor accident that would normally just result in bruising, and interiors with more TV screens, speakers, MDF and fibreglass that are just held in with a few self tappers and come loose in the event of an emergency stop decapitating the occupants of the car... Personally, I'm all for tougher safety testing of motor vehicles if it means that some of the dangerous heaps of $h!t driving around now are scrapped... If I have to pay a little more, hell that's the way EVERYTHING fun or entertaining in this damned country is going anyway...
  19. engine first, then bodywork... if the body gets tatty, it's not going to grind to a halt and leave you stranded... ;) Get the G60 engine rebuilt... you don't need to go mad with it, get the engine out and cleaned up, change the bearings, shells, rings, all seals/gaskets/core plugs, oil pump, water pump and all the switches and sensors. Dump the oil cooler and put on a Mocal air/oil cooler kit with the appropriate MKI water pipes... Get some paint out and clean and paint any bits that are taken off it... While the head's off, get it to a good engine shop and get the valve guides and seats done and possibly a bit of porting and polishing while you're in there... Oh, and give Darren some money to do your charger too... ;) The parts to do that little lot won't cost more than a grand and a half, and if you get the garage space, it's not a difficult job to do, just take your time and read the Golf MKII haynes manual carefully (it's basically an identical engine!) That'll leave you with a mint, standard G60 engine that'll happily give you another 120K miles
  20. iow_corrado_g60, For what you pay, you get a brand new chip with a custom code on it which can either be based on the existing map you're running, or a fresh one based on a similar engine he's already mapped... I've still got the chip I ran the car up there on, as I'm considering building up my other engine to the same spec that this engine was before I dropped on the G-Werks CNC head and cam, so I'll already have a map that's 99% there... Lippy, Yeah mate, I would have met up, but work's somewhat mental at the moment so I'm not getting out until late and have loads to do before the weekend... :( We'll have to meet up for a pint next week one night... 8) iow_corrado_g60, If you're down Darren's way, then yeah, get it mapped there... what he doesn't know about G60s isn't worth knowing and I'm sure that once his rollers are up and, well, rolling  then he'll be able to do as good a map for a G60... gradeAfailure, dunno about beating the charged VR6 crew... they do have an extra 50% of my engine on top! (almost 1000CCs AND 2 extra cylinders) saying that, I think that some of them may be worried... ;) mike_g60, Wayne's up at J21 of the M62 (Milnrow) - he doesn't just know his stuff, he knows other peoples stuff too! ;) To say he's good is an understatement...
  21. I got back from Waynes at 2:30 AM this morning after leaving him at gone 1am... :? I'd got there at 9am... He was an utter star with my car as I managed to snap the toothed supercharger belt  so he got his mate to run me into Manchester to find a bearing supplier to get a new one from while he cracked on with another car... 8) He set up my vernier pulley and the chip and has transformed her into a totally different machine... Let's just say she's rather much better than she was... (I'll post figures up after the Stealth rolling road session this Sunday... ) He wouldn't stop until he found every bit of power he could out of the engine as he was sure that there was some more in there somewhere! If you do need to get a remap, I would 100% reccommend giving Wayne at Chipwizards a cal! One thing I will say is that if you do go to Waynes place, take a packed lunch and wrap up WARM... once he gets his new sound proof rolling road booth sealed up and the fans flowing air through, it gets a weeeeee bit cold in there! Definately money well spent... my face aches today from grinning on the trip home and back into work this morning! :notworthy:
  22. probably before... Although the press articles I've seen don't show the numberplate, so I can't say that 100%...
  23. dunno, I think it was around 6 for the launch... Originally, yup, but there were some later ones in other colours (a yellow G60 and a blue VR6 spring to mind straight away...)
  24. If I remember correctly, Mountney don't do a boss to fit a momo wheel to the Corrado... you need to use a Momo boss... ;)
  25. Welcome to The Forum matey... Good to know another one of the original UK corrados is still around... 8)
