I always ran mine on Tesco 99 and the smoothness of acceleration was great. I found BP Ultimate to be horrid, car always lumpy on it and would choose Optimax over it if you have no Tesco 99 in the vacinity 8)

Rough/low idle and occasional cut out on down shift to 2nd??
Socrates75 replied to madmansi's topic in Engine Bay
Somewhere in here is a thread about when my VR6 was doing the very same thing. I spent a fair whack on trying to fix the fault too. Mine also had a very irratic idle at times, between 750-1500 rpm. I changed the ISV and cleaned all the plugs that go into the MAF and that seemed to stop it. Also I had a split hose just after the MAF that was allowing "Unmetered air" into the engine. I do believe it is a common pain in the bum fault with the VR. -
I pay £300 for my VR... I'm 31 with 7 years no claims. It's through Premium Search with Jubilee/Lloyds...
-
Cheers! This "crank case breather", cheap part to replace or STEVE@ can you give a better description of how to remove/bypass :) Thanks Martin
-
It is split near the bigger bit left of the arrow, you can hear it sucking when the car is running... Will this be effecting my idle? Cheers.
-
You had a valid point, I've edited my initial post :)
-
Mate it's the part behind the HT lead... Sorry, not very good on adobe :)
-
I've highlighted in the pic a part that is split in two... (Ignore the HT lead) I'm not sure though if it is mean't to be like this or it has split (if so it's a perfect break) :? Many thanks Martin.

I've tried to find the thread that had a VR6 engine diagram  ... I think I have found the cause of my idle prob, but just want to see what this particular part is. Thanks Martin.

Cheers guys. I've booked it into Volkswerks... I'm no mechanic and this thing is really getting my goat. I don't know what is worse, the car cutting out or the continual nag from my other half about "my useless old skip". Hopefully this will spell the end of it. Martin.

Right... It's doing it again. At virtually every junction or stopping point. When sat in traffic the idle is unsteady and very low, keeps dipping to a point where the battery light flashes and sometimes it will catch itself and send the idle up and others it will just stall. I just don't know what to do next... I am beginnig to hate my car :( Any suggestions, apart from driving it into a wall... Which at the moment is very appealling. Cheers, Martin.

HELP SOMEONE!! VR6 MISFIRE HELL!! HELP, SOS,HELP
Socrates75 replied to kanokaipi's topic in Engine Bay
My VR6 went on one and went into fail safe when I went through a large puddle on my passenger side. It's never done it dry and now I steer well clear of puddles :) I thought some thing serious had happened but I guess I just soaked something that should have been dry. Hope you sort it mate. -
Put replacement ISV on today. Idle now normal and not cutting out, so I guess that was it! Now to sort erratic reverse lights :)
-
I bought an ISV and then the car decided to behave so it's been sat in my boot... But funnily enough the thing has started to play up today. I'm not wholey convinced that the ISV is at fault and if it isn't some fuel related problem... I mean, why sometimes does it run sweet as then other times lumpy as fcuk. I thought it could be when you're getting the dregs from the garages pumps in the tank. Surely that would be the equiv of running the car down to no fuel and dragging all the shit through the system? I've found it behave's a little better after a a real good twatting, when you take it to the max, then when back at lower revs it goes normal. I'll whack this ISV on and see what happens... I'd be grateful of any other suggestions... It has no sensor faults from a VAG comp for your info.

Ever regretted a modification? (helpful guide perhaps)
Socrates75 replied to OSV's topic in General Car Chat
My Cor already was modded on purchase... Gotta admit nice towbar Jenks, does it aid performance! :) -
Thanks for advice guys :) Part been sent , so should arrive start of next week. Sods law, car behaved like a God today on both work journeys, maybe it knows! Sneaky thing  I'll be sad to see the thing go!
-
Did you change yours because of erratic idle and stall? Did prob go? :)
-
Where abouts is it situated? Haven't a clue! :) Hopefully this will be the end of erratic idle and stalling!
-
Thank you very much. Anyone live in a 50 mile radius of teesside that could either... a) stick it in for a small fee b) show me how to do it! I'd obviously travel to them. The reason being I've been greeted by a wall of silence with my local garages, one of which I feel has bent me over for around £600 over this intermittant cut out prob. Cheers Martin.

Vw number 034 133 455B I've managed to source a 94 ISV, but my VR6 is a 95... The number above is the 94 version... is it the same? Thank you :afro:
-
Must admit I did sh*t it. The last time it ran on 3 Cylinders I'd destroyed my rad :) I assumed I'd soaked something electrical, nothing has happened since.
-
I had this problem... I went through a huge puddle, the car went into fail safe. Once dried out, say 10 mins, back to normality. I always steer clear of the deep ones now :afro:

I've been offered an ISV for £30 off a low mileage Golf VR6, a 2.8 engine... Is this the same part as on my 2.9 Corrado, as the cheapest I've been quote so far is £75! Chears! :alien2:
