my throttle cable was slack, but i adjusted it just before starting to drive the car, so no problems there. It currently has no back box attached, the pipe has rusted completely through before it, so its just sitting there. Would this sap power at all? I'm also running a superships chip, probably bought about 10+ years ago, so an SNS might help? It does smell a bit petrolly from the exhuast. Can't see any boost leaks, but it still feels much slower than i expected, not just off boost. Maybe its coming from a 840kg golf with the dellortos, though the power to weight of this should still be much higher...??? Another thing maybe worth mentioning was that we had it rolling roaded a couple of years ago, then we thought it was standard so the 164bhp was nice, but we now know that it had a 68mm pulley, so that seems down on power. What could be causing this (now fresh stage 4 charger + the pulley) Cheeers :)
-
Thanks guys, Mine also does tbh, screaming dellorto's are for me. The g60 then, it has a freshly rebuilt and ported charger and 68mm pulley. So i was expecting more snappiness i think, but i havnt got a standard one to guage against. It certainly doesn't feel the 180ish BHP you would expect(?), and with a charger running all the time, i was expecting a kick or "go" from any revs. :(

Cheers, thats kind of what i had thought. previous (and other) car is a twin 40'd 1.4/1.6 (depending on what engined atm) small block 8v vvery pokey wherever... hmm, so its aabout right? :(

My G60 feels very sluggish with small amounts of throttle, you have to push it further down than other cars to accelerate. When you open the 2nd butterfly (or stage of throttle, whatever it is) it is fine and pulls quite well. Its as though small amoutns of throttle dont really do anything in 4th/5th and you have to push quite far until you can accelerate... Is this a g60 thing, or is there something up?

As above really, i'm liking the look of the later spec cars at the moment. What does it look like if you only swap the bonnet (and probably grille) rather than the whole lot of it? Can't see the rest making a bit difference in my head, but dont want to waste a bonnet + paint. Any pics appreciated

Best thing i have tried from all the trim on mk2's is boiled linseed oil. Its also alot cheaper than the "specialist" ones.

Top mounts - And now Wishbone bush sleeves, do i need them??
g60rc replied to g60rc's topic in Drivetrain
Sorry, it seems i really need to work out how to use the search better. It doesn't bring up that many replies for me... Thanks though, thats a load of my mind. What are the specified torques for the bolts, iirc there is no haynes on the corrado - should i get a passat one, or mk2/3 golf? -
Cool thanks, you're obviously much better at using the search than me! So i conclude from that i need...?: Front: Outer CV's, Hubs, bearings, and just some new disks... Are any hubs ok, or do i need the early passat type 35 VR6 ones? Rear: Just Vr6 disks. Cheers

Can anyone shed light on how i would do it, is there a dedicated difinitive thread maybe with a parts list? Basically i've seen that CH's are available in 5x100 and i'm not keen on adaptors. I have read that you can use the hubs and outer CV's from a VR and then have to use g60 disks but get them drilled and material taken off. Is there a way to do it so i just use VR6 brakes, no machining, just off the shelf parts etc. Cheers Rich 8)

You can get compomotive MO's in that fitment... Is there any chance of more pictures on it's current wheel setup? They look nice!

Top mounts - And now Wishbone bush sleeves, do i need them??
g60rc replied to g60rc's topic in Drivetrain
Well i fitted them to the car, the fronts at least, along with new wishbones that came with bushes already fitted. Couldn't replace the ball joints because i couldn't get the caliper carrier bolts out... One question i have though, do wishbones that come fitted with the bushes already (vwspares, febi bilstein ones) need the extra sleeve fitted? The bush on both front and rear wishbone ones have a metal sleeve with rubber surrounding it, but the bolts are not tight in them when off. No extra sleeve was supplied with them, so i just stuck them on... Cheers -

Well i tried the plug socket, and i could put it down further, but should i? Way i see it is that i won't be making it go any closer to the spring top cap so won't be any harder to turn... or will tightening it compress the bearing so much that i can barely turn it by hand? It turns smoothly with a bit of resistance at the moment. -

g60rc replied to g60rc's topic in Drivetrain
cool, cheers. I've just been and done it - but sounds like i need to tighten them up if they need to only just be turnable. I hadn't thought of the plug socket, i'll give it a go. -

g60rc replied to g60rc's topic in Drivetrain
yeah, i did. How do you get down inside the mount to tighten it up, ie a spanner will not fit. Is it just a case of buying a deep socket, no other way? Or will the slotted nut be ok, but that does not hold the mount on, it just sits ontop... R -

g60rc replied to g60rc's topic in Drivetrain
how do you tighten the shallow nut though? The top mount doesn't fit over it after it is on, about 1mm too small hole. Should i just force top mount over the tightened shall nut, or use the slotted nuts i have? -

Brilliant thanks, Then which nut do i use, I have the slotted round one or a new one i got with the mounts. So order is bearing on, then a nut (which one?) and then the rubber mount just sits on top and not tightened on like with earlier top mounts? Cheers -
Gooday, Sounds stupid but i'm stuck building my coilovers up with new top mounts - i bought the late vr6 ones with a seperate bearing, where does the bearing go, ontop or underneath the rubber mount, and which way up? A quick answer would be brilliant... This type...

I've got spax rsx coilovers, second hand with no detachable knob for adjusting the damping - Has anyone got experience with them, or maybe other damping adjustable suspension and how you do it? Cheers Rich
-
Well it is all ordered minus the tie rods and ends. Hopefully it will tighten things up a bit when i fit it all with some Spax coilovers, aiming to get it done at the weekend.
-
Will do then, thanks. Well, i'm getting more parts than i was going to at VW for less than half the price, including delivery. Result. Let's hope their quality isn't too shabby. How difficult are tie rods to change (can't see how you would do them??), and rear beam bushes?... I'm just wandering if it's worth buying the lot and having a corrado-session this weekend.
-
Is it the 'link' or the 'mount' for the rollbar that i will need to replace as it will snap? - on this page.... http://www.vwspares.co.uk/corrado_suspension.php
-
Thanks for the info guys, I havn't really got the cash to be spending on the VW bits, and due to some of you thinking they may be ok i will look into other (read cheaper) options. I realise i may be replacing things sooner, but with my cars i expect nothing less than that anyway - and it doesn't bother me too much. The main thing is that when the bits from other places working right, they aren't worse than VW bits. Any other experiences are great. EDIT: That VWspares sight looks useful, i will get it from there i think. What is the general assumtion about quality of febi parts?

Im going to be replacing the wishbone, bushes, balljoints and top mounts on the g60 in the next week. I've phoned up VW and i'll be needing £220+ to replace wishbone/balljoints/bushes/top mounts GSF on the other hand will cost less than half that, but just how bad are their parts? Will the wishbones from them cause any issues with tracking/strength/fitting and are the bushes and top mounts up to scratch. I'll be fitting coilovers at the same time, so i can't see old and tired 18 year old parts being better than new GSF stuff, or are they really that bad? I'll appreciate any opinions, Cheers Rich

Atn: G60 Corrado owners (don't know about the others)
g60rc replied to Tempest's topic in Engine Bay
Thanks a lot Just got back in from refitting, so i'm not going to be so paranoid behind the wheel. Is checking for leaks on the pipes under conditions of... ignition on, engine on and engine on blipping the throttle while wobbbling the pipes sufficient to make a judgement under driving loads? Will the pressure increase with load/throttle position or is it constant? Sorry for being perhaps over cautious... While doing it i did find some boost/air leaks around the manifold, so some more use came out of it... 8) Rich
