  1. Hi again, Tried that but it doesnt seem to want to change, could one of you nice nice people do it for me? Ta
  2. I have now fitted the bmc induction kit and sorted the fuel hoses out and used the nice end finishers. Looks much better now. It also lines up well with the wing vent so should be able to sip some fresh air.
  3. The plastic pipe as per the attached pic has a outlet to the rear and it doesnt seem to connect to anything. I have now put masking tape over it as a temp job. It used to connect to the isv pipework on the obd1 pipe. I believe the golf parts I bought for the obd2 conversion had it blanked off and the other valve was blanked off and it had a seperate breather filter on the crank case than apposed to the pfr valve being connected to it. It also ran the bonrath power roar but so far I have fitted that. Do I not have the correct pipe? Ta
  4. Where exactly is DG? I am currently using the Eibach front and rear lower anti roll bars. The rear bottom arb seem to make the difference by keeping the car nice and tight. I just dont know now when the rear end is going to go as theres so much grip. The wish bones are poly bushed up, all 3 new vag engine mounts and top mounts have been changed recently. I have not yet purchased a top rear arb, do you think its worth doing? I would really be up for the mapping day, It would be nice to extract anything extra shes got and to see how she fairs up as what is a standard healthy engine with a straight through exhaust and de cat. Oh, almost forgot, and OBD2'ed! Is the mapping day tweeking and adjusting or is there a new chip? BMC CDA turned up this morning! The post man said, Ive had this for a few days now but didnt know which door you were! Plonker! Sorry for doubting the seller. Have you considered the MSD coils? Look nice in th ebay, Haywire posted about them saying they give a stronger spark.
  5. I really had lots of help with this so It doesn't feel like I achieved it all on my own but I did as much as I could. I am proud in my own way. 80 to 100 plus seems like the car has taken steroids. I'm not kidding. Even just pulling away or a short blip in second, the car lunges forward and it keeps surprising me. The throttle response I think its the nest part of the conversion and on start up, its immediately running nicely and with a lower purrrr. Bad points, I can feel every bump in the road, coilovers still not set up how I want them. I've set it up almost like track suspension and have to realise the roads around here are crap. So I will lift the car 5 / 10 mm and then make the suspension softer. It does go round a smooth bend beautifully, It keeps saying give me more, just waiting to see where the new limit is but also respecting the time and energy thats gone into the car. Once set to a softer setting, it takes the bumps like standard suspension, I was quite impressed. To stop the slight rubbing Ive got at the rear I stiffened them, now too much. I will sort it tomorrow as its annoying me becuase I want to take the car for a good blast around the country lanes. I am finding that the seats are not as supportive as those nice recaro ones, I can feel the sides pressing against me now as im travelling faster round the corners but today I thought it would be nicer to have some extra support. Will keep an eye out for some. Look very smart too. I am now looking to get the car remaped and liking the idea of the msd coils. My bmc kit still hasnt arrived today so im a little concerned if its going to come through. The chap only had 1 or 2 posts and no reply to my email yesterday. Will see what tomorrow brings. Any advice of where I should take the car for mapping? DG ? Living in Bournemouth, I am not sure where to go? Also, any comments on the improved coils? I also havent changed my spark plug leads since I bought the car, they must have been on the car for ages whilst it was standing, plus a year of me having it. Should I just buy a new set? Could I be missing out or do they just finction or not function? I did the spark plugs with the timing chains.
  6. Very true mate, nice to see you on here. Craig, I am picking up a spare 2.8 block, might do you a deal if you like. One is duplex chain and the other single chain. If not, my engine will be avaialble at some stage. Unless it becomes a table! ha! You may as well buy an engine and do the work on it first as you never know, my engine could be worn, not that it feels like it does but to spend all that money on something you dont know whats inside could be dangerous. Thats what Ive done and was just lucky to have another block thrown in! Also, you can do it in stages and start getting all the bits and gradually rebuild the head and then take it all down to chubby to install. Just tried calling Brad for you but his number is 07855 151 336 I believe, hes the top man for detailing in Bmth, so im told. So sunday it is then, what time shall we meet and where?
  7. Thanks my friend, I was like a 10 yr old boy is Disney Land when it was all finished and working. Hope to catch you at some point as your car is stunning and hoping to see some of the other amazing rados on here. I need inspiration for T or S charging now! I have the 2.8 block sat in the garage.
  8. Sounds good, hopefully the weather will be better this time. R u intrested in a nice polished inlet for the beast? Lets see who is up for going, I will send a couple of the guys a email, do you want to post something on here about it? Also, we need to look at the calander to see what shows/meets we could convoy up to. Really want to get to some meets this year
  9. My obd2 transplant is now over! Plenty of swearing, I can tell you that much. Mainly brake servo and the 1mm space around the fuse board to get everything in neatly. Well, turned the key and the car wouldn't start. I then thought, I ****ed up somewhere along the line with the loom as I removed 2 wires from the ecu and a couple of wires to the engine loom plug that I though I could get rid of..... I also took the new transponder chip out of the new OBD2 key into my key and swapped the immobiler box under the dash. I couldnt get the screw back in as my back had enough. Bending over with the car very low for 2 days is not fun. Will do it tomorrow and now the wires are more tidy under there, I can get my screwdriver in. Anyway, plugged the car in and I just saw a page of faults flash before me. All 6 Injectors flagged up as not earthing to ground. So double checked the main wire to the top right hand side of the fuse box, red with blue tracer and it wasn't plugged in. Connected it up and she fired into life! Re checked for any fault codes after clearing them before and not one code, everything working and I gave an almight 'Yahoo!' when the car was running. I was so chuffed that it worked. I used the obd2 engine plug, both sides, so everything went exactly as it should. My drive home was the best bit! Fook me theres a noticable difference. I am astonished. The mid range power is superb and keeps pushing hard. The car revs up with agression now, throttle response is like its a different car! The sound is also different, in fact, I think I prefer it. It's slightly lower in pitch but sounds like its got some more muscle if that makes sense? I have a fair bit to catch up on work wise tomorrow as I spent all day on the car so after all thats done, I'm off for a drive. I bought a bmc cda filter but it hasnt arrived as yet, hope it will come tomorrow as I havent really delt with the forum member before but he replied to an email saying it was on route late last week. Big thanks to Nathan - Wikki write up, I spoke to him a few times, few text messages and he just couldn't have been more helpful. He knows the wire colours off by heart.
  10. Have you looked to see what charge the battery has under load? My friends g60 did this and his alternator and battery needed replacing.
  11. Are all the oil levels ok and have you tried re bleeding the system? Im trying to think what it could be? Are all the nipples tight and not weaping? Check the bolts on theinside of the car, the 4 x 13 mm nuts that hold the servo, see if theres any play there? The recoring will hopefully make more sense of it?
  12. I have tried changing the title in mymembers thread/gallery. I can't seem to do it so it keeps saying more storm maintenance leather trimmed at the beginning of the post. Could someone tell me where im going wrong? Ta
  13. Hi all So, I decided to get my gloves on and tackle this long awaited conversion. Finding most of the bits took the time but managed to get everything and spares! I have not had the ecu flashed but using the transponder, key and immobiler box. I gave the throttle boady a good clean out, bought 2 rolls of tape from Maplins and some insulating tape from my local electrical store. My friend is lending me some connector spray to make a water tight seal to the main plugs and harness. The OBD2 round plug was a bit dirty inside so it will be cleaned before fitting. I also picked up a spare lamba sensor but the tread is not good but the plug might come in handy if different to mine. So far, the rado loom is out, manifold out, brake servo moved back a bit, obd2 loom ready, just needs plugged in and tested before wrapping. Thats where I am now and later today will be going back to finish it off. It all has been straight forward except removing the brake servo, it felt like it would never come out and I didnt want to force it. Once the rado loom was out and I could see what wires were similar etc started making me feel more and more confident, as so far I sat in my living room stripping the wires from the guide only and trusting what he did. I can tell you, snipping loads of wires and big earth wires etc was not fun. A sudden loss of breath with every snip took place.
  14. 39.5, Thats superb! R u sure its not a wire you snipped! lol On a serious note, I copied your post into word, printed the whole thing out. Bearing in mind i almost knew it off by heart from reading the post! I took along today 2 obd2 manifolds, 2 throttle bodies, 2 engine harness wireing looms, 1 obd2 engine ecu harness, all the old stripped wires from the obd2 loom, the correct tape, heat shrink, insulating tape, solder gun, your post printed out, wiring diagram, multi metre, 1 auto electrician now mechanic, another mechanic and a good friend. So you could say I was prepared! For once! I had been concerned with this plug I kept harping on about but one of the guys checked the current via the ecu and looked up the wiring on his laptop, it was the air bloody con! So I was happy that I could safely remove the wires. Soldered 2 wires I had cut back together for the outside temperature sensor, nice and simple. Removed the manifold and all associated parts and hoses. Followed the post and removed the brake servo, you dont have to remove the master cylinder from it so no need to bleed brakes. Getting the servo out enough prooved difficult, finally managed to move it enought to get some of the black and white plugs out at the rear of the engine. Removed the loom in full, stripped wires on rado loom and sat this ontop of the obd2 loom and started comparing. Then my phone call to yourself as I had been unsure what to do with a plug, after you explained what was not needed the rest and felt instant relief as I knew that everything else was good to go. Cheers again. We decided that that was enough for today as a few cars came into the garage for small jobs and I helped them tow some cars etc, we had breakfast and lunch bla bla bla. So tomorrow early evening, we will go back to the workshop and complete the transplant. I even played some Potcheli for a laugh like Nip Tuck when they do the operations. lol Will be nice to see what differences are felt. I know I have wanted to do this for a while and just grateful to C488ADO. Really a very polite and helpful chap and hope to catch you at a meet. The milky bars are on me!
  15. Make sure you really get the metal surfaces clean and free of any lumpy bits or old stuck on gasket sealant. Spend some time on that, GSF sell a good product, in a silver tube but quite expensive. I used a stanley blade, bit of sand paper and brake cleaner. Took a while to get all the areas clean but I changed the sump as well which took some cleaning up! Also, some of the gaskets dont quite meet on the joins or corners, its good seal them too.
  16. Those wires I mentioned above are not the throttle body plug. Do you have a plug that comes off the main round engine plug , quite near to it? These are the wires im stuck with. 8 off them are snipped, I did that, but 2 go back into the round main plug. This is what is concerning me at the moment. Im sure 8 of the wires were from other wires I needed to remove that why I cant understand where Ive gone wrong. I have a weird feeling Ive mucked something up but I will take all the old wires with me incase they need joining back together. For all I know, I may have done it corectly and the extra wires are from the air con from the car it came from? I really hope so!
  17. Ok ta, Once the amp arrives I will see if the 4 gage fits straight in.
  18. are you saying my amp is not up to the task of the sub? The g4500 is what I have bought. Its second hand but sold as being never used just doesnt have packaging on ebay. If its not the correct amp, I can always sell it as I got it for half the price of its RRP. Or it just needs setting up correctly so that it works as best it can for the amp I bought? Will the 4 gage fit straight into my amp? I recall many years ago when I had a set up in the golf that I used a reducer as the cable was too fat to go into the amp. Its either 4 gage or 2 gage, need to double check. Noted about the fuse, will contact them and see what they recommend and a suitable fuse holder. Ta
  19. Hey, it's the handles on the doors to open/close on the inside. The drivers side has the mirror buttons to the upper section. I need them for trimming, just like in the Campaign Models. I dont need the insert that covers the screw holes if that's easier for you. Did you manage to double check the dash?
  20. Thanks chaps for replies, ordered the 10w6 JL Sub from the states and a JL Sub box to suit. I took your advice on going for a better quality sub. So, amp wires already installed. 4 gage power cable, gold rca's, just need the connector block once I hook it up to the battery. I 've left enough length ready and wrapped around the battery for now. I also need to take a power supply and find an adaptor for the standard aerial as mine is smoothed over. I bought an after market aerial with booster so I can have radio, in the rare event I listen to radio. When I connect power cable to battery via a connector, what sort of fuse size should I be looking at? Also, will I need another splitter type of block to step down the 4 gage into the amp? As you can tell, im a bit rusty with the stereos systems.... You all sound like you know your ice! Cheers again
  21. Im still messing about with it. Bloody thing! lol I bought the engine the loom came from and the plug with he orange washer inside goes to the throttle body. There are a gew wires that seperate from the engine harness onto another plug that I must have cut out. I also have a spare engine harness loom that I bough a while back thinking it was the entire loom so I might see if I can use that instead of the current harness ive been trying to get as plug and play. Also, just realised I didnt get the ignition barrel, I have the key and box so will I just need to tape the key or the chip to the new box? Im not quite sure what to do here. Can the rado ignition barrel be matched to my new key? To be honest, once the rado loom comes out, like you say,it should be easier, im probably 90 percent there with the loom and just a couple of wire really to figure out but I now know its the throttlebody switch. Did you receive my email re the wiring? Also, any further clarification on the aux water pump/fan or is everything still working well? Inlet already polished and ready, have everything else, tools, garage, help and big box of pg so roll on saturday morning. Starting at 9am. So just to summise, the engine harness has 10 wires that come off this to a plug sensor/switch - Throttle body switch, so far, 2 are connected to the harness and the other 8 are currently snipped. I will have the spare engine harness at the ready for sat incase I need to remove what I damaged and replace with uncut wires. Ive got 2 harnesses so I should be ok! In reality, there are 8 wires that need sorting and the loom is ready. As long as the immobiliser doesn't give me jip, I should be all OBD2 up!
  22. Just bought a G4500 Amplifier http://www.safensound.co.uk/jlaudiojlaudiog4500500w4channelamplifier-p-1251.html?utm_campaign=google-simple&utm_medium=product_search&utm_source=google-simple Wanting to run a JL Sub, 10 or 12 inch and some components up front. Can I run 2 channels to the sub and 2 channels to the components and does anyone see any issues with what I plan to do? Also, what sort of sub should I look for to go with the 500 w amp. Quite like to stick with JL and keep everything in the same make. Budget wise, max £300 for a sub and box. I will do the components when my new dash arrives. Cheers peops
  23. The same ones you took off, original ones. I will take a picture of them at some point
