Afternoon fellas - yep Cressa it was a replacement ignition switch, like I say I don’t think I'm out of the woods yet electric wise as the dash is still flashing and the fuel gauge doesn’t appear to work... but I had a grin like a Cheshire cat when it turned over :D It’s not really a complete fire Jim... feels like maybe one cylinder is having a try, I need to get an HT lead removal tool so I can check the plugs for fuel etc - I'm not convinced the lifter/tank pump is running. I can only describe it as the sort of fire you keep the key turned and your foot on the gas for and sometimes it sparks into life.. but on this occasion I don’t think it will. Cheers delfinis - that’s a great tip, I can’t actually see any pictures on Dave’s thread, I'm guessing its the bit of cast on the end of the handle that pushes down on the lock mechanism to open the door?

WOOOHOOO! £37 later and the VR6 turns over... unfortunately it doesnt start thou :( - it appears to attempt to fire on the first turn then nothing... but I guess its a start. I've poured a gallon of super unleaded in but the fuel gauge doesnt move off the pin... maybe I need to check the float and the lifter pump next? But its progress - all the interior is pretty much ready to go back in, just need to repair or replace the sound deadening and I was going to get some dinitrol to spray inside the doors etc.... I'm still very supprised on this car complete lack of tin worm! :) although I might just mix up some duck-oil (got a gallon in the shed) and oil to spray in until the weather improves and I can get the car fully dry, then think about dinitrol/wax

Dont suppose you have any pictures of the soundproofing do you? I've bought closed cell foam and silent coat self adhesive mats but dont want to over do it in places that arent needed ;)
-
I was just thinking the same thing! :D
-
Very nice! are the rear windows tinited? any more details on the soundproofing? very intersted in that, my lightweight fast as possible days are well behind me and I want a quiet cruzer now ;)

We used to swap early MK2 Golf GTI boot carpet (with hump) for later no hump carpet and that fitted fine, to be honest when I look at my Corrado with all the interior out it pretty much looks identical to the Golf ;) - one thing I do remember is the early carpet seemed better quality on the Golf, and it extended under the rear seat.
-
Need a few other bits too, off-side head lamp, number plate light surround, accelerator pedal stop bolt (plastic capped one in the floor), warning triangle that fits the back seat - also looking for a user manual/service book holder.
-
My first test will be to see if the motor turns over with the new switch... the flashing dash is more of a worry, I think there is a deeper issue in all honesty, just leaving a car to stand is the worst thing you can do.
-
Yeah I have memories of doing my MK2 GTI some years back... not fun, and I imagine the Corrado will be similar :( fortunately I've already removed most of the interior and plastics which I've been cleaning and drying in the evenings ;)

He's not loged in for over 2 years...

Cheers fellas - just ordered a 6N0 905 865 switch from the main dealers.
-
Much appreciated ;)
-
Ah... yep I noticed that straight after posting here, I'll keep an eye out ;)
-
Ah ok - thanks Gents, as I need to re-new the pads and disk on mine it could be worth looking out for some then ;)

Is there much difference from 280mm to a 288mm setup? I know its 8mm... I mean in real world performance :D

Do you have the ABS controller that sits in the passenger foot well? my car wa stood for 3 years and the ABS ECU is water damaged...
-
The Jabbasport IHI turbo conversion used to hit 320/330bhp on a BAM - no mention of it on their site anymore but I'm sure if you called Mike he would help.

Well a cold day spent swapping starter motors, cleaning connections and earth's... I've removed the old alarm as well... It turned over once and that was it :-( since then..... Nothing Dash is still clicking, LCD is still flashing on and off most other stuff works... Indicators are a bit iffy but I think it's the switch... Think I'm going to need an auto electrician... Anyone know one that's any good... Or even better knows Corrados?
-
Cheers Grizzly, did you buy a kit to do yours? - I was just wondering if there was such a thing for a factory wheel..
-
My steering wheel is very badly worn, anyone got a leather one they no longer need? Or can you get them recovered?
-
Cheers spen - I'm kinda hoping to get it back to full roadworthy state and take my boys (maybe even the Mrs :) ) out in her, but if at any point I get the hump it will definitely be for sale on here. ;)

LOL! Its starting to feel like a church service and a burial might of been the best idea! Hopefully once the weather breaks and I get the garage cleaned out it will move on at a brisker pace... I need to make a decision on the gearbox, but didn't want to do that until she runs - a non runner is a different ball game. Hmmmm not a huge fan of white, but I think its more popular these days.
-
Cheers g0ld ;) really appreciate the offer... I'll try and secure one that I can keep, will probably hold on to the VR... well maybe.. :D
-
Cheers Seanl82 - yeah the dash ticking is a worry... all the LCD displays are flashing on and off too now :( - the battery is brand new so I guess I have power problems, I thought it was going to be an easy starter, but I guess 3 years have taken their toll. Hopefully the weather will be better at the weekend and I can get some bits done. Ahhh you're running a Jetex? how is it? I need a new exhaust too, but want as close as I can to stock noise/looks etc

Anyone know where I can pick up a spark plug cap removal tool? - ebay and the web seem a bit short on results.
