Well all was going very well with my car, and i was chuffed to bits with it. After having a new air flow meter fitted when it had its MOT, the car wouldn't hold its idle randomly. It'd be fine half the time, and the other half would just die when the engine was left to idle. Two days ago at least one cylinder stopped firing, now the car is running very very lumpy and sounds terrible! Its using alot of oil but i'm not sure if thats unusual for the car, its certainly not smoking or leaking oil visibly so i'm not sure what to make of it. I've booked it in at my local vw specialist but thats not untill thursday so i'm stuck driving a diesel rover 200!!! Somebody tell me the cars not dead already? I haven't even pushed it yet! :(

Cazza, it was colour tech i think? In wooten under-edge, probably the same place i shouldn't have thought theres that many spray shops around wooten. The guy said it was quite expensive but very very good, i got quoted about 370 for a rear arch to be repaired and sprayed up. Its a smallish dent but very noticeable :( I'll get before and after pics up when i get it sorted out. There is also a cold air feed onto the filter but i'm not sure how effective it is, are there any decent heatshields out there?
-
Yeah the guy gave me the original airbox and a k&n panel filter, i'm also curious to hear what the standard airbox sounds like... Nothing compared to the cone i'm sure Cazza, i'm taking my vr to a body shop in wotton this week to get the rear arch sprayed. So keep your eyes peeled :) The car used to belong to a guy near berkley and he got a quote from the place in wotton hence me taking it there..

I recently bought a vr6 and the previous owner had already fitted a K&N cone. I'd be interested to know if its worth paying another 180 odd quid for a BMC kit if the sound is more understated... I do quite like the roar as i accelerate heavily but i'm getting fed up with the dirty looks.

I honestly don't know why its so cheap, i'm only 21 with just 2 years ncb. I guess area must have alot to do with it. The 2.0 16v was 700 quid fully comp, so to change it over to the VR6 was another 158. I put my dad on as a named driver and it brought the price down by about 150 pounds!! That was with Admiral insurance, using confused.com

The valver did "look" clean but things weren't as they seemed, i shant say anymore as its up for sale again! That is a chimaera arse infront of it yes, thats my dads money drainer, at least the vr6 won't be as costly to run as that i hope. I'm in Gloucestershire nearish to Stroud so i'm pretty much well in the country, have some pretty fun roads to put the vr6 through its paces round here :)

Yeah it is a magnex, stainless from the cat back fitted by the previous owner. Sounds pretty good from what i can tell, the engine is so damn loud though its anyones guess :) *edit* heres a pic

Well after a bit of messing around i've got myself a pretty good car. Last week i bought a 2.0 16v but had some trouble with it idling and not starting randomly so i took it back... But while at my local vw specialist having the valver checked out i spotted another corrado for sale, and after an inspection it seemed a really nice example so i parted with a bit more cash on both the car and the insurance but couldn't resist the sound of the vr6! The valver And the VR6! It has a small dent on the o/s rear arch but i'm going to get that seen to as soon as possible. Other than that the car is in very good shape, 100k on the clock and full service history. Considering i'm 21 i'm pretty chuffed with getting insured fully comp for only 850! All in all i'm a very happy boy :D

This is the non sped up one, essentially exactly the same video but less annoying to watch and just as impressive

Ah thankyou very much. Always such quick replies on here! I'm seriously thinking about getting a g now, want one so so badly :) Quite a reasonable price for a charger service there. Might well be in touch in the next week or so :)

I've had a good search on the forum but can't find how much a rebuild would cost? I'm looking at buying a g60 but want to know what sort of bargaining power i have if its not had a rebuild recently or ever! If i can't find a decent enough one i'm just gonna buy a 2.0 16v i've found :)

The brakes are different to the other mk3's, but they are just golf gti brakes.
-
Sounds like a great opportunity, i was a polo lover for the last couple of years and wanted a g so badly!! knock them down a couple of hundred and it'd be just right.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volkswagen-Corrad ... dZViewItem Anyone know this car? It seems quite a reasonable buy it now price and is my upper limit...
-
In the knowledge base it says that the 2.016v overall consumption is 29-31 mpg, and the g60 is 32mpg. Not alot in it i know but it was enough to sway my dads opinion of g60's, coupled with the extra torque and bhp my dad now thinks i should get the g60 over the 2.016v :D Not sure when i'll be able to track down a decent one though :(

Good news!! I sold my car today and am now looking for my first corrado properley. After reading up a bit more its looking more like i might get a g60 after all. The insurance infact works out cheaper than the 2.0 16v, and the fuel consumption is better, and i like the whine of a supercharger :D and its quick as funk. Only trouble is they're harder to track down than valvers, and my budget is about 2250 absolute tops wanna be spending about 2k as its only my 3rd car. Now i'm aware of the pre viewing service offered and i think i will be taking advantage of this as i know nothing about corrado's :)

like i say i'm 21 wit 2 years ncb, and got quoted 800 for 1.8, 880 for 2.0, and 900ish for g60. Haven't tried a vr6 as i'm not looking to get one till next year. Someone buy my car so i can get a corrado :D
-
I'm not going to consider a vr6 yet, i appreciate they are the dogs dangleys and nothing would compare to them but i'm just turned 21, with 2 years no claims :( Upgrading from a polo gt to a corrado will be shock enough. My budget is absolute tops of about 2k, but would rather spenda bout 1700 and look at modifying it a little bit. I've found very little on auto trader and the forums for sale. There are a couple i'm interested in on autotrader but they're all quite a long trek just to go and look at one. It all hinges on when i can sell my car too, my insurance is due for renewal on the 12th of May and ideally have to sell mine before then or have to take out insurance on it again. http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24939 incase anyone wants a great condition polo gt

Hmm ok it seems the advice is go for the 2.0. Theres one i'm planning to go and look at on Saturday, which is cheaper than a similar aged 1.8 with more miles on the clock. The only thing that worries me with the 2.0 is it has abs which is in my mind just something waiting to go wrong... and the 1.8 does have a quicker 0-60 which i'm sure could be quite good fun. Also the 1.8 i've seen has had one owner, garaged all its life and has very clean leather interior. Which i must say does appeal to me. Being fickle though, i'll probably just buy the 2.0 at the weekend if its a nice clean example. Any more advice is much appreciated, and i've read through the checklist which has plenty to look out for. P.s. I did try and search but couldn't find anything on the subject, if anyone has better luck please link me.

Hi all, i'm new to corrado's and am looking to buy one in the next few weeks. I'm planing to get either a 1.8 or 2.0 16v to see how i get on with the car, and maybe later move onto a g60 or vr6. My main question is, i understand the 1.8 is quicker up to 60 and has more bhp, but the 2.0 has more torque so may be easier to drive. I have found what look to be reasonable examples of both and wondering which would be the most fun assuming they're both in good condition. Any help appreciated I'm getting rather excited as i've always wanted one of these :)
