  1. Cheers for the response. I'm sooo eager to get it lowered cos i got my new wheels on :)
  2. If i get this Weitec kit i will have to buy bushes aswell correct? How much do standard ones cost, i've seen poly bushes on g-werks but they're pretty steep! Worth it i'm sure but i am living on a budget as Christmas is drawing in.
  3. Under 2 miles each way :) So never get above about 17mpg... Slowly killing my car
  4. Ooohh that sounds nice g-man... I'm quite ignorant and don't know what i need to buy for it all to be fitted. I was going to take it to my local independant vw guy to have them fitted, but do i need to buy new bushes and such? Or do i have everything i need in the kit.
  5. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of Weitec coilovers? They do a Hicon GT coilover for just £475? Or as i am on a budget would it be better to just go for the Ultra GT suspension kit that lowers 40mm, i know a couple of people have these and say they're good. I'm just looking for a suitable lowering, preferably adjustable ride height with not too stiff a ride. My cabin rattles a fair bit and i live in the middle of gloucestershire so want a fairly comfrotable ride. I need to replace the rear shocks as they're leaking and want a bit of lowerage but only have about 500 quid to spend :( Any help at all appreciated!! p.s. I have read through this from start to finnish but don't feel any closer to a dicision as all the info is on stuff out of my price range at the moment...
  6. Hmmm this is what i had thought... So are the H&R's a better ride? I'm only using it for road use so want it quite useable, if its too stiff a ride i'll just get fucked off with it. Yeah it is the one behind the petrol station, and i got a quote from blakes for the gas flowed head with him and it was only 800!! Think i'll be goin there afterall and just get the stems replaced. He's fitting a new radiator for me tomorrow so i'll have a chat with him then. Mines got a stinking massive hole in it :(
  7. hmmm i thought it was a bit steep too. But he made it sound good... i forget how. But they seem to know what tehy're doing, got lots of vw's in cup racing. They got a stand at Castle Coombe tomorrow aswell but i can't make it which is a shame. 5 pound entry too if anyones interested.
  8. Well i've already got the advice i was hoping for!! I shant go for a gas flowed head then. I was getting quite worried that i had a nail that was wanting me to spend over a grand on to get it right... I also think that if i'm goin to change the suspension i'll just go straight for koni coileys so i don't have to fuss around later on. I would like the option of adjustable ride height so i can cater for different wheels in the future, and i've only heard good things about the koni set up. Unless i'm missing some bargain kit out there that is, i did a little research earlier in the week and found that if i want adjustable rebound as well then they're all in the 600+ region :(
  9. The fella said he didn't rate fk's very much. The h&r kits are about the same price as the koni's and he reckoned they would be better for general road use. He can get the koni kit at 600 quid the rest is on fitting and setting it all up right... I realise its very important that the suspsension is set up correctly but it sounds like a hell of alot of money to me! I'll quiz him on reconditioning my head on monday...
  10. that includes the price of the koni's too. I paid 3k for the car because it had a whopping dent in the rear arch which i got repaired for a few hundred quid. I just want opinions on whether it is worth spending that much money on my corrado, and if it'll add to the resale value at all.
  11. Well from a couple of months after i bought my lovely vr6 it became evident it was not all it seemed. It drinks alot of oil and smokes when you've been coasting down a hill and pull off. Symptoms point to valve guides. I got a quote from a good vw specialist in stonehouse that knows its stuff, and to get a gas flowed head fitted i'm looking at £1295 From the same place i've also been quoted £1088 for koni coileys to be fitted and set up correctly. One of my shockers is leakin and it seems a good excuse to get coilovers and give the car a long overdue lowering. Do these prices sound about right?! I'm mortified at how much money my bloody cars goin to cost me before the year is out. Is it worth it? The cars otherwise very clean, immaculate interior and all the electrics work.

    Gas flowed head

Well i plan on keeping the car for a couple of years and do have wild ideas about charging it in the future, and other things that will probably never happen. But its a fine place to start. Thanks

    Gas flowed head

No-one got an opinion on this at all? I'm getting the oil changed to mineral on friday hoping that burns off a bit slower with a no smoking additive. Then i'm gonna get this gas flowed head fitted in the next 2 months... Hopefully with a big smile on my face again.
  14. A long story cut short, my vr6 started misfiring very soon after i bought it, the plug on cylinder 6 was very oiled up and its drinking oil like nobody's business. According to the records the valve seals were replaced 2 years ago, and my local vw specialist seems to think it might be the rail stems that have gone. He said i could get a gas flowed head, or a big valve head for a fair bit more money. As i'm still at the very bottem of the learning curve with cars i need some guidance, is a gas flowed head worth it? I was given about 400 quid as the figure for it, plus fitting. I'm led to believe it'll release a bit more horsepower, but for nearly 800 quid for it all fitted up i should hope so. I'm pretty gutted as i've only had the car a few months and its only done 103k, with a full service history :(
  15. I may aswell jump on the band wagon... My vr6 started sounding like a scooby, not firing on cylinder 6. The plug was very oiled up, and the car is running really rich and won't pull below 3k. Its really lumpy untill you get over 3k then it pulls just fine!! Also the depressing thing is its drinking oil, big time.
  16. Well i fitted the old air box for about an hour.... couldn't live without that sound!! Can't say i noticed that much of an improvement. I'm investigating building a propper heat shield and getting a much larger cone. It'll all be sorted in few weeks and i'll get pics up when it is :)
  17. Also he said the cone i got on there at the moment is a bit small, and needs a heat shield. Would a Jabba sport one fit with a bit of fiddling, i know they're intended for a g60 but can they be bodged?
  18. I've got my car back, with a new MAF and its stopped dying, and is running sooooo much better in the high revs, after 4k it used to drop off but now just keeeeps on pulling. I thought it was quick before, but now its something else!! The only problem now is its pretty spluttery and lumpy below 3k. Is that just the mixture? I don't really wanna take it back to the same guy as did all the work for nothing and feel a bit mean taking it back again saying its still not right. Think i'll try that turners garage in Stonehouse. Just gotta wait and see if the plug oils up again to see if the bore is knackered :(
  19. Nah Northfields in Tetbury, not that far from Wooten really, about half an hours drive i think. Whereabouts is stealth?
  20. Its at a place called Blakes Services, they're a vw audi specialist on the outskirts of Stroud. He usually knows his stuff, but doesn't have some of the more expensive daignostic stuff. I'm getting fed up with it now, its spent a 3rd of the time i've owned it in a garage!
  21. Well i'm not the one doing it all, i'm fairly clueless with this car as i've not even had it a month. He said he's tried throttle position senor, and he's reset the ecu. The air flow meter was brand new when i bought the car so should be working. He said he's running out of things that he can try, he's stumped. Might have to take it to a VW dealer to get it sorted :(
  22. Cazza, can you elabourate on the unpluggin the airflow meter comment... Because curiously enough if you unplug the afm the car just keeps running, so you reckon its knackered?! The bloke at the garage didn't believe that was right. Also if you unplug the idle control valve it runs fine, replaced it with one that works and as soon as you connect it, it starts dying and can't idle. ?!
  23. Well it wasn't my coil pack, and there was oil over the bottem corner spark plug. The bloke at the garage was trying some other stuff out first before taking the head off and takin a look... It doesn't idle right, and and when you unplug the idle control valve it runs fine, he's tried another one that he knows works and it runs poorly with that too? In regards to the oily plug, he said he hoped it wasn't piston rings so i could get it gas flowed... Does he not realise how skint i am!! In one single word, i'm gutted.
  24. As clear cut as that? Jesus... Well its at the garage which i trust now so hope everything goes ok. If not i'll have a vr6 for breaking, with mint interior
  25. Hmm, i've been told that the vr6 uses alot of oil anyway so i'm not so worried about that yet. After just getting back from dropping my car off at my garage so it can be looked at tomorrow the guy said it might be a coil pack or maybe even leads so we shall see. Needless to say after leaving it for a few days it wasn't missing at all, still cutting out at junctions but actually running ok when you were on the move. I'll keep you lot posted.
